    I had cracks on the stairs like this. Followed this method from your previous videos at the start of the pandemic. Still not a crack in sight, even with a heavy footed teenager. Thanks your all your tips and tricks, they've been a massive help!

    This kind of advice is invaluable on RUclips. Old houses need a different approach, and let’s be honest there aren’t really many of those in America…..

      Thank you. yes some houses we have worked on date really far back.. 1600's

      @@PaintingandDecorating ours is 1870s but has older period features like leaden windows, ever come across renovating these?

      @@ProfessionalPainterDecorator little rectangular panes with lead between, 4 panes wide, 6 panes high, all sitting in a rusty iron frame. Where to begin?

      @@PaintingandDecorating Touching up on a textured surface is so much easier than on a flat wall.

      @@LS-td3dz yes.. I prefer a textured surface really.. flat walls are hard to achieve.. and always show generally when touching up..

    Good tips about how it moves and to clean off the paint. I am not such a fan of using foam in an old house. I would rather use lime plaster as a filler, eliminates the possibility of damp spots whilst foam would create a barrier. As long as organic materials aren't present mould shouldn't grow (as it needs something to feed on I think) but I think there is more risk of mould if lime isn't used.

    Judging by that awful artex lashed all over the wall the cracks are the least of youre worries

      The overall look of the artex is pretty good... hides uneven plaster and can be better than textured papers... thanks

      Yes, artex done properly looks great, just like decorating, diyers, bodger stay well away

    that wall has 3 layers of wallpaper and 10 layers of paint..

    What is the best season or temperature to complete this project? Is it best when above freezing outside?

    Great fix but I question the customer's wisdom of doing it when the walls are in such a state.

      Thanks the walls are not too bad actually on the whole... Old house and the artex sits well .

    What tradesperson would I get to fix this issue? A painter and decorator or someone else? Our staircase has really big cracks and I need it sorting before the hall stairs and landing gets decorated. Thank you.
