PLEASE SUBSCRIBE - LIKE THIS VIDEO. This is the only way you can pay me back for this level of work. If I don't see an uptick in subscribership, I will not embark on doing more future comparisons like this because it takes HOURS AND HOURS of work and it has to be worth my time. Thank you again!
Presentation 2 has more air, larger soundstage image, and more dynamic impact. Nonetheless, the delta between the pass labs monos and Antellion is not dramatic, but indeed noticeable. Thank you Jay for your 1st class work.
Jay I just want you to know I look at your videos almost daily. And i enjoy the fact that you are an Iconoclast presenting expensive audio components and have the guts to do so in a scientific empirical analysis and then tell what's the best Kudos
Same here. Richer harmonics, depth and presence. The guitar riff wakes me up from the pleasant slumber of Presentation 1 and instantly makes me sit up and listen.
thanks jay ur the real deal. presentation 1 is for me. presentation 2 is likely to be more popular if u are raised on digital - sounds frigid and cold and relentless. presentation 1 is more relaxed , detail is unforced but its all there.....more importantly, timing and tempo is consistent. presentation 2 is too fast ! in time this is fatiguing and the detail is overemphasized at the expense of other frequencies.thanks again for putting in the effort to show us.i care not for both amplifiers as i am a single ended (tube ) guy.
Speaking about the comparative, as the other day, presentation 1 is more neutral. Presentation 2 is for the specific customer who wants a polite sound.
hmm I'm curious ... Although I'm fearing presentation one is more bright and this is not what I like generally. In this case I think it has a better definition and depth over presentation two...
So listened with headphones on this time... Presentation 2 had slightly more nuance and was what I would call a little more liquid... Jay is right of course... headphones make all the difference.... I liked both presentations... however, the second song - in particular gave what seemed like more depth to the vocal ... a little more ambiance and I thought the guitar seemed like it had a little more 'glow' - if that makes sense. Saying all of that - Presentation 1 was still very good and I can't see myself wanting if I had that either!!! Something with more low end may have been a 'tell' ....thanks Jay..... Tim.
Presentation 1 for me, both good but I ilke the number 1, better via laptop speakers, sounds more natural and deeper sound stage and more seperations. I might change my mind if I listen with headphones. Thank you .
I slightly preferred presentation 2 but I don't really know why. It was a tough call, both presentations were close but then I don't have super audio headphones...
You deserve an “atta-boy” all the work you do. About your Pass Labs XA-160.8 amps, if you could keep them for a bit longer and do an occasional comparison to another competitor, that’d be terrific. I think you like Pass Labs also, but maybe a lesser degree because you have the top dog Boulder amps. Back to your comparison, this one was a bit trickier but once the cymbals joined in with some singing, the Right amp in my opinion is more resolving, provides a more dimensional sound, the bit of sparkle on the high frequency is nice, but what winds it, is the lit from within sound of the right amp. The left amp, while not very far behind I’d just a bit less of everything than the right amp. The left amp is just a hair compressed, less dimensional and more just 2 dimensional, and the sound is generally not as lit from within as the right amp. Those Pass Class A amps do a good job at providing that holographic presentation where the initial attack is just more three dimensional. Anyways, thanks for another great video Jay.
Very interesting. I agree with most people here. You can hear that 2 has a brighter, more lively presentation, and 1 has (to me) a more neutral evenness across the whole spectrum (others described fuller mid-bass/ low midrange). I prefer 1, the big reason is not what 2 gives me (extra highs), but what it leaves out. While the increased shimmer of a cymbal is cool, there are a lot of textures to be had in the mid-bass that I found missing in 2. Great video as always sir. And the lifting of those amps must be where those guns come from.
P2 is fuller in the midbass and into the midrange while P1 is thinner sounding but is silkier and less splashy in the high frequencies above about 6kHz.
Presentation 2 is clearest than 1. Thanks to the voice we clearly heard it. 1 sound more like a typical class A and 2 more than a class AB, I will choose 2
Jay, for me this time, I think I can give the win to Presentation number one. It just sounded a little more filled up in the midbass area. But it must be said again that these presentations are both extremely close. As I said in the 1st video, it only illustrates just how good that Gryphon amplifier is. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job here. Showing us how much backbreaking work this is to do. It's not lost on me. Well done Jay.
Hmm. is it. Gryphon vs boulder. something is wrong here it's more similar than last video. with the sound. because now it sounds more similar than before. but number 1 sounds a bit better.
Yea this was tough. I flipped both ways on this one. If I had to choose, maybe the slightest edge to 2. Just a hair more extension and dynamics. But the difference is so slim for me that I would have to call it a split.
Again, after having seen the video about which is which, but listening this for the first time, I vote again for presentation No2. It's more full, more ripe, more mature, more into the recording as a musical happening. Tone and soundstage are more complete into a whole-one-ness.
I'll admit, I'm terrible at these unless there's a dramatic difference between th two. I would have to have 10 seconds of a song passage, immediately followed by th same 10-second passage A to B. I can say for sure that these two are very close. Great job, Jay🍻 ( I liked & I'm subscribed)
Exceptional music during moving those giants power amp. That kind of music suits you very well JAY !!! We thank you for all your effort. Please keep up the good work!!
I preferred presentation 1. I felt like I could hear deeper into the music. Personal preference, Jay. At the level of ultra hifi…I think it always comes down to synergy and personal preference. The speakers are crazy revealing.
Nr 1 is more open than nr 2. I think stage it's more big, i listen thru headphones.. But both is very good. Maibe to another songs, more dinamic and detailed we can make more diferences.. BR
Hi Jay, it’s much appreciated what you do my friend. You do not need people taking Harry bliss.. the piss like the one who lost his Jack??. I have listened to 2 videos, one with a Griffin and one with the path labs.. the Griffin is very good indeed, but I think the past vibes just edge it I might be wrong looking forward to what you’ve got to say about them both My dear friend. Please carry on with the good work. All the very best to you. Albert.
Presentation 2 was more PRESENT each time; people often confuse loudness for presence. With amplifier 2 I mean I was able more easily, far more easily to believe that I was hearing the event live; the other the music coming THROUGH a system re-producing music. Hope that is clear.
On a serious note, if you look at your shirt from a couple of feet appart, it’s impossible to read the text, and therefore look you up or remember the channel. Id find a way to balance the text with the visual
Again, given the circumstances (music selection) etc. I'm finding I like Pres. 1. While Pres. 2 adds a bit of energy like a Technicolor sort of beauty, it's a bit much and a bit opaque. I'd have to listen in person with more types of recordings but I'm preferring Pres. 1.
Presentation #1 is clearer. You hear it especially on that snare drum on the first song. It snaps stronger and clearer. And the electric guitar is clearer on Presentation #1. Everything sounds more dynamic, including the vocals, on Presentation #1. But Presentation #2 isn't shabby by any means. Still good. Just not as good as #1.
I have a Audio Technica WS1100 and is semi open with good amount of bass, great mids and crisp highs and great soundstage too and still available around 120 euro or something. But does need a dac to really shine and make that bass come out cause they have 50mm drivers 😀. And i use the Fiio E10 with it and does a great job with that bass boost
On this particular shoot out, #1 seems a bit more forward and articulate. # 2 seems the opposite. I think #1 is the Gryphon, #2 Pass. Close tho, not huge difference with these particular songs. I preferred #1 presentation for these particular songs.
Very hard to differenciate…it’s just me: guitar for 1 and voice for 2. 1 sounds smoother, 2 more raw. For blues, it’s good, but long hours of listening, one might be more pleasant

Jay. I have a flat tire but I misplaced my jack! Can you drop by and hold up the rear of my car, while I change the tire!! 😂😂😂

an Iconoclast ?....not sure Jay is such a maverick ...
Presentation 2 for me ! : clear sound, high resolution, natural voice sounding.
Thanks for your job Jay !
PEACE !
Same here. Richer harmonics, depth and presence. The guitar riff wakes me up from the pleasant slumber of Presentation 1 and instantly makes me sit up and listen.
Jay, Again #2 with more depth and bottom end.
thanks jay ur the real deal. presentation 1 is for me. presentation 2 is likely to be more popular if u are raised on digital - sounds frigid and cold and relentless. presentation 1 is more relaxed , detail is unforced but its all there.....more importantly, timing and tempo is consistent. presentation 2 is too fast ! in time this is fatiguing and the detail is overemphasized at the expense of other frequencies.thanks again for putting in the effort to show us.i care not for both amplifiers as i am a single ended (tube ) guy.

Thanks for your time and effort we appreciate it 👍👍
the second presentation that I chose for this video. for the previous video, the first presentation I chose
Well done! Appreciated and great song. Would the Boulder 866 have a chance against this competition? How far off?
Presentation 2, in my opinion is best, sound detail is just better. #Pass labs
hmm I'm curious ... Although I'm fearing presentation one is more bright and this is not what I like generally. In this case I think it has a better definition and depth over presentation two...
I watch all your videos. And again, presentation #1 is better for me. Cleaner, crispier, sharper and more airy.
Your in full beast mode! Love it!
You're 😉
I think that No1 is more calming and would be easier to listen to over an extended period of time! No 2 is has more air and more detail!
So listened with headphones on this time... Presentation 2 had slightly more nuance and was what I would call a little more liquid... Jay is right of course... headphones make all the difference.... P2 seems ever so slightly more sharply etched and accurate.
You pulled that Pass up like it was an empty box!
Presentation 2. More air, better clarity.
Jay please wear a weightlifting back brace

Preference = P2
My guess P1=Gryphon P2=Pass
P2 is fuller in the midbass and into the midrange while P1 is thinner sounding but is silkier and less splashy in the high frequencies above about 6kHz.

Presentation no 2 most preferred.
Didn't Rocky train by squatting with logs, chasing chickens, and lifting monoblock amps? :) - BTW i really like the new comparison side-by-side format
I can't hear a big enough difference. They both sounds world-class to me.
Exceptional music during moving those giants power amp.
That kind of music suits you very well JAY !!!
We thank you for all your effort.
Please keep up the good work!!
I tend to favor Presentation 1. I feel I detect just a bit more clarity / separation in the instruments/vocals.

jay u did a good job on the shoot out but maybe u can tell us what other equipment did u use like what cables did u couple on to them?
I did say all of that...you probably skipped it ..
Presentation 2 was more PRESENT each time; people often confuse loudness for presence. With amplifier 2 I mean I was able more easily, far more easily to believe that I was hearing the event live; the other the music coming THROUGH a system re-producing music. Hope that is clear.
No. 2 has more air , larger Soundstage

#2 more organic feel to the music. Small differences though.
Very similar presentations
Presentation 2 for me, but it's very close. Slightly better dynamics, a bit more edge and air. Like the musicality of pres 1
Number 2 ....saluti dall'Italia
Wow Dire Straits Brothers in arms a great track..... I use to evaluate my systems with a 45 RPM audiophile LP of this .....Amazing
Still presentation 1 for me. Great shootout. Does show the 20+ year old Gryphon still got what it takes against the brand new Pass Labs.
Maybe number 1 is Gryphon
I feel dynamically closer to the details in #2 Ambient
Still presentation 2 for me
No 1
Presentation 2 sounder more natural timbre and fuller sound. I choose presentation 2 here.
Presentation #1 is clearer. You hear it especially on that snare drum on the first song. It snaps stronger and clearer. And the electric guitar is clearer on Presentation #1. Ok

Amazing work you do Jay. One question: Are those steel-toed socks? 😀
Lol nope
Presentation 2 sounded best to me
I vote #2

I like number 2 more cleaner and better soundstage
presentation 1
I voted for 1, it sounds good. 2 is a bit on the sluggish side and sounding less clean.
magnifico.🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
Thanks
...very very close but i think No2 a bit more natural??
Ok
Will you publish a review for the Esoteric N-01XD?
#1
#2 is best I and I bet it is the Pass Labs
On this particular shoot out, #1 seems a bit more forward and articulate. # 2 seems the opposite. I think #1 is the Gryphon, #2 Pass. Close tho, not huge difference with these particular songs. I preferred #1 presentation for these particular songs.
#1 for me this time
P1 seems to have more clarity and impact. I prefer P1.
Very hard to differenciate…it’s just me: guitar for 1 and voice for 2.
1 sounds smoother, 2 more raw. For blues, it’s good, but long hours of listening, one might be more pleasant
For me still number 1
Presentation 2 has better dynamics IMO.
First time P2 and this time P1 sounds better
Pres 2
Behind the scenes is my fav Po?n Category..
Lol
I can’t even lift my 75 pound McIntosh. 😂
i still prefer number 2 :)
You will mess up your back and use sliders to move heavy items
1 is true precision.
Prefer presentation 2. Sounds less congested and clearer than 1 by comparison and more natural sounding,
Slightly differences and minor differences but presentation no 2 more vibrant.
P2. I was P1 last time. I think pass >
1 is more my style.
Pres 1
should ask younger audience, my over 40 yrs old ears cannot tell the difference
