😂🤣🤣You the best Foookaar,
Hi Chris!
Every other day?! Don't threaten me.
You're right mate. The cat crazes are mental
I actually really liked Cat Nation and I think you did a good job as the presenter. What were people expecting? David fucking Attenborough
Yeah I agree I watched it on curiosity stream and had never seen abroad in Japan. Was a great find
i havent even heard of it before but I really want to watch it now, it is free on amazon prime for anyone interested
Yeah, I saw it on CuriosityStream and definitely enjoyed it. Might've helped that I was already familiar with Chris' persona though, so I went in expecting a level of cynicism.
Tbh I was expecting Dave in Japan
I think they were.
Man those people who go on about "disrespecting Japanese culture" are really overreacting. People are allowed to like or dislike various aspects of a culture, that doesn't automatically mean they're trying to be disrespectful. Also Chris I feel you about those cat allergies. Like cats are cute but oh boy my sinuses don't like them
I find most people that cry "disrespectful" haven't set foot in Japan tbh!
Mostly weebs who fettishize Japan based on some slice of life anime they've watched
Sadly, today's society can be summarised as "I'm offended, therefore everyone should be and you're wrong"
yea the essence of critique is what makes us all better in some way. I find Japan awesome, but there are many say social areas where I don't like it at all. You can like something and still hate it too?
People complaining about "disrespect" would probably have a hard time watching An Idiot Abroad.
Watched Cat Nation the other day and it was by far the best documentary I've ever seen. Watched it with my sister who doesn't know you and we were both rolling! Never stop being you, Chris. Literally enjoyed it so much.
I love how foreigners suffering Last Samurai Syndrome seem to think that every bizarre niche product or eccentric marauding weirdo that just so happens to be in Japan, somehow constitutes "Japanese culture". What a high opinion these Amazon reviewers must have for an entire nation!
It's a review for the whole documentary, Chris just added straight examples. I doubt anyone called him disrespectful because he didn't like cat scent spray.
Isn't this mainly an American thing?
@@forthrightgambitia1032 Just West overall
@@forthrightgambitia1032 It was, but it's quickly spreading through the West.
Hey, don't you diss The Last Samurai. It's a really great movie.
My baby and my mum were watching this documentary literally 40 mins ago and not going to lie, I LOVED how much you didn't vibe with the cats, hilarity!
that was my favorite part too 😂
The worse Chris behaves, the better I usually feel!!!
@@joebroadbeef332 he got better with the character he's developing even until now 🤣
He is like "An idiot abroad"
This is the mentality to watch it and enjoy it the most haha you get Chris being odd around cute cats, no more to ask for!
The beginning of the Cat Nation documentary literally introduces Chris as a “bewildered British guy”….one could expect some dry and dare I say, bewildered humor…?
I love this chanel BECAUSE it is very honest about living in Japan. Chris is like my sarcastic polish father, bringing me back to earth by reminding me, that I will have problems buying clothes there and should get used to live in a closet there, while I'm just like: "Those cute pink cherry blossoms there!! And there is an Island full of cats!!"
Agreed. He is not sugarcoating Japan. Tbh Japan is not a place most people would like to live in. They would give up after a month of japanese working culture etc. so I think many weebs are haters cuz "japan is perfect! say anything bad and I hate u!" lol
he's also not like that guy whos entire channel is about "dream crushing: why you don't come to Japan".
he gives the highs and the lows, and a very realistic view of the country without glamourising it
@@kamo7293 Well said 👍
oh btw no hate to Japan. I think for western people they all would love visit for holiday ^^ but life there compared to western... big difference! they can't sit home all day watch anime lol. western people are lucky to relax so much ^^

Unbelievable.

Hey Chris, I just want you to know that I found your channel back in 2017 and I've been a dedicated fan ever since. I got screwed out of a group vacation with some friends to Japan that year, and I was so bummed thinking I couldn't go. But after having saved up all my money and PTO, I decided to just go by myself. And I was scared. So I started looking up videos on Japanese tourist etiquette and things to do while visiting, and that's when I found your videos. They helped me with my anxiety and made the trip so much easier, because I knew what to do and what to look forward to. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the great content. I hope you know you've made a much more significant positive impact on people than the naysayers would have you believe.
That’s really great to hear. Do you by any chance, as a person who has now gone through what so many of us wish to do eventually, have any particular advice for people visiting Japan for the first time? I wouldn’t mind checking out Tokyo but I’m more interested in the other cities in the countryside.
Fuck dem friends dude find new ones 👍
Aww that’s awesome :) glad you enjoyed your trip. It does sound like a scary concept and I still feel the same about travelling alone but I’ve got to man up and do it
I just imagine Sharla's and Rachel's faces when they saw Chris of all people got approached for a cat video. haha
Who are they?
@@harrihaffi2713 Other RUclipsrs in Japan, they both have done content with Chris and feature "similar" content
Both are also very very into cats.
Honestly, they would have been a bit insufferable if they had done it (clearly not to some people though!). And perhaps even looked passed some of the issues with it.
@@tams805 I think they missed out alot on not going for a comedic duo with a pessimistic Chris that's literally allergic to cats and an overly enthustiastic girl that just wants to cuddle all the cats.

Watched Cat Nation, I can say that Chris is the correct choice for the presenter.
Or maybe I've watched too much Abroad in Japan to always laugh at Chris' commentary especially the dry jokes xD
Yeah, it's awesome :)
He rocks
Japanophiles losing their mind when Japan is depicted as anything less than 100% perfect 100% of the time will always be funny to me. There is no 100% perfect country or culture, and acknowledging that reality isn't "disrespecting glorious Nippon" or whatever, it's just being realistic. Personally, I think if you've offended Japanophiles, that means you're doing everything right in life.
You cant reason with them. They have their image of Japan that no one can shatter, until they move to japan to see that it is fucked like EVERY other country on this planet.
@@J.Crime123 You don't even have to move to Japan to see that it's fucked. There's lots of info online about how it's fucked, and if you go on holiday there and visit any of my major parks in Tokyo such as Ueno or Yoyogi then the homelessness problem is obvious.
Isn't it's bad because he's not interested in the topic and they don't understand sarcastic humor instead of them being offended or whatever? He even says it in the video.
It ain't perfect but it got most of things right. And I wouldn't mind living there even if some things are fucked because it's still miles better than my country anyway.
Ehhh! Norway is 101% perfect.
Honestly, I think Chris is one of the most entertaining you tubers that does Japanese content. He's brutally honest but sarcastically funny about it.
YES!! he became popular on RUclips for teaching Japanese people how to curse in English. he is A LEGEND!! 😁
Agreed. He’s very entertaining and puts a lot of effort into his work
honestly just watch his videos for him and his personality. Its good to see someone who isnt overly hyper and positive about every aspect of Japan
I feel like the Ramen shop setting is really bringing out a lot of good energy in you and it shows in the videos. You're on a roll
He is too hard on himself. He's a great presenter and always has been, he's a natural.
I was thinking the same, I think the most atractive of his videos is the way he presents things. Go ahead Chris! I love your content

I love the "respect the culture" from people who -certainly- don't know that much about Japan. Japan has a lot of good things just like a lot of bad things. Having realistic expectations will help a lot more than fantasizing about a perfect country.
Yeah the "internet samurais" as I like to refer to them as. Chris has said on his podcast countless times. addressing them leaving the oddest and most blind sighted comments. Idek how someone could be so ignorant to their own self awareness. It's really not that hard to do some actual research about Japan.
@@alen_css2152 Chris once refered to them as "The Last Samurai Syndrome"
@@aslamnurfikri7640 Haha yeah lol
@@aslamnurfikri7640 it sounds like another variant of white knights
I bet those people have never even been to Japan themselves, so they've never experienced its "bad" side. The only way they ever get to be "exposed" to Japan is through the internet, which has no problem glorifying exaggerating, and twisting perspectives about things to attract people's attention :v Thus, it leads to misconceptions and unrealistic expectations.
All jokes aside, Chris has some of the best content out on RUclips at this current moment. The quality of his content as well as his satirical humour just makes his videos so unique and fun to watch!! Started watching years ago for content of Japan, now I watch it mainly for Chris and co lmfaooo Love youuu
I totally agree. I'm a hardcore weeb and love Japan, but if Chris launched abroad in wherever, I'd watch every single video!
Ironically I’m the exact opposite. I started watching just because I liked Chris’s personality and gained an appreciation for Japan because of his channel. Before watching I wasn’t even really interested in Japan.
Agreed. On top of Chris's great personality and humour, the production value on his vids is so high. Incredibly entertaining.
Yeah, i get he appeals definitly more to touridts and gen not japanese interested, and as that he is great.
@@temp0s876 better late than never.
C'mone Chris, you are genuinely funny, clever and very honest. Dude you really do have a lot of people that admire you and watch your vids because you are really funny and put a lot of work on this.
Chris, I have followed your content for the past 8 years, you're an amazing guy and hearing you say you agree with them and hate yourself at the start of the video made me very sad, because when I was at my lowest point back in 2015 it was you and your videos that helped me through a hard time. The Abroad in Japan channel was "escapism" from my situation at first. Your humor was very uplifting, your personality was fun and fresh (even now) and your videos eventially inspired me to study Japanese and make something of myself. I even graduated and I've been to Japan three times. I even studied in Japan for six months at a university in Tokyo. I don't think I would have done any of that without you, because I really had no confidence in myself back in 2015 before I found your channel. And you know what, even the way you market your brand also motivated me to start my own small business. Crazy right? The way you started small but became one of the biggest and most authentic J-vlogger is just so admirable. You're an amazing person and mean a lot to us, you're not just some comic relief guy but you're someone we can look up to and a person who fires up our passion for Japan, so please know that those people online don't know or see you like we do on RUclips. And their opinions shouldn't even matter to you. I just hope you learn to love yourself, because if anyone deserves it it is you.
Amazing and really glad Chris is like a personality and friend who sends over video to us. It's been refreshing to see his passion and improvement over the years too, that must have been inspiring too to see someone else giving it their all and making it.

I actually really enjoyed that documentary, it's how I started watching you.
Just today while I was editing this video I got a message from someone saying they'd watched it and enjoyed it, haha. I'm glad some folks have actually enjoyed it!
Yes agree it wasn't cat-astrophic , it's was more like kind of Meow 🐱🐈
I'm actually very passionate about cats, but specifically because of that I would have just been ranting about the borderline animal abuse that was shown in the documentary, if they had hired me. 💀
I think hiring someone who's not too enthusiastic about cats was a wise choice.
Yeah, putting tight fitting stupid outfits on cats is definitely abuse.
My cats would never tolerate it !
I guess the right thing is to hire someone who is interested in cats, not obsessed with cats. If someone is not interested in cats in the first place, they won't be knowledgeable about cats either.
Its like being a tour guide for japan and hating japan. That person wouldn't be a good tour guide because they wont show any interest in japan and her culture. A tour guide that is overly obsessed about japan isn't good at all either.
I think people are justified to criticise the show for that, but the reviews are always overly aggresive as they normally are.
@@henryottis295 You misspelt animals... Anyone who puts anything on an animal that doesn't want it should be shot.
I've just watched Cat Nation and I strongly agree with you. Chosing someone who is more neutral towards cats is by far the best choice. I'm not a cat person as such, I think they're cute and fluffy but I'd probably never get one myself. You don't have to be a particular lover of cats, though, to be able to see that there were a lot of occasions where whatever they were doing was just plain wrong. Imagine being really passionate about cats and not being able to say anything in those situations? I couldn't do it, that's for sure.
After hearing Chris talk about this on the podcast i watched this with my partner expecting the worst and we both actually really enjoyed it as big cat fans, really didnt notice Chris seeming off about cats or anything, so weird people get all bent out of shape about it

As a fellow Brit, I think our humour goes over some people's heads. I can't even count the amount of times I've accidentally offended an American with a joke before, or the amount of times they've thougth me and my friends are being mean to each other when we're just joking around.
You see this difference a bit in your videos. When you present with 'Connor Dawg Voice Actor' or the 'Animation Man', you can see how your humour is the same.
But when you present with one of your American friends, their jokes aren't as.... Savage? I guess? Still fine though, just different. :)
You do a good job Chris, don't hate on yourself too much! You've literally got a ramen shop and a depressing alleyway to get drunk in, what more is there to life?

Would love to see a parody with clips from Cat Nation with Sharla superimposed over Chris just complimenting the cats and having a great time 😂
Excellent idea a parody of cat nation with Sharla!!!
I really like your channel, my son and I watch it all the time and we are never disappointed. I love your ramen restaurant set 😊 please keep the content coming.
I watched this over the weekend. I think it was interesting and informative. I’m willing to bet they are not many people who would have what it takes to go overseas to teach in schools, learn the language, find out about the locals and earn themselves nearly 3 million followers. You’re doing a great job.
I can understand the reaction to the weird/creepy comments from the perspective of Japan being sensationalized and stigmatized as much as it is. Especially in the format of television, where they often try to amp up the craziness while totally ignoring the mundanity of daily life in Japan or the more beautiful aspects of Japanese culture. I think this is something that you've handled really well over the years!
I mean it's as painful to see as those internet white knights. They are kind of lost in their own identity and everything about their character revolves around defending another culture which for most parts is all made up of only the "good parts" in order to feel like they belong somewhere, do only good and have a certain purpose. Not to forget the good' ol dopamine all these keyboard warriors get, when they argue with strangers on the web :D
@@its_EZ Woof, okay. That might be the case for some of them but for the most part it's well intentioned and comes from a sincere place. It's still an improvement over people being casually racist for no reason, like they used to be. I don't expect you to share that point of view because it sounds like you're 0.5 seconds away from bursting into some deranged rant about "wokeness" or something lol
@@its_EZ It is genuinely pathetic how some people take shit to the next level with simping for Japan. Like shit bro I'm a weeb too, if given the chance I'd move to Japan in a heartbeat. But the people who think every tiniest aspect that even loosely relates to Japan is a godsent gift and needs to be cherished as sacred? Easily among the worst people on earth and actively make it harder for normal humans to even mention Japan without people thinking you're one of them.
I get exactly what you mean. It feels like on television in Japan it’s always one thing or the other, and in the west one documentary will focus on one thing well completely ignoring the other and vice versa. It feels like only on RUclips are things ever truly balanced with how things really are.
The look on the face of the white cat that you are “failing to stroke” is one of the funniest damn things I’ve ever seen. I love this channel.
"Fried Chicken Nation". Now that's a documentary that I would watch.
After seeing that thumbnail, idk who can hate a lovable Brit feeding some cats.
Exotic land: Sweden 🤣 that's pure comedy right there! 👍
Awesome job my man!
Hey, Chris. I really genuinely enjoy your content. When you update, it makes me happy that I can have you as company as I eat dinner or something. I don't know about other people, but I love your british sarcastic humour. I think you're funny as hell. Have a good day.
Same here! Had a Saturday brunch all by myself but playing this video brought me a lot of joy and laughs. I've been watching him for years and I don't think I was ever disappointed by one of his videos, they are all entertaining in different ways and I love it!
love the whole trope of "people who know nothing about a culture just assume that everything in the country is tied to the country's culture"
ah yes, the fabled Japanese cat wine
ah yes, the legendary Japanese IKEA bookshelf
ah yes, the iconic Japanese toilet paper roll holder
Hilarious storyXD, kind of need to hunt down that program now👍, love the things you do here👊✨
I've seen Cat Nation on TV and I was so surprised to see you in it, I had no idea! 😅 I enjoyed the show very much, though. I mean it has cats, Japan, Chris... what's not to love?
Chris's new videos every other day is like a doctor's prescription for healing my soul
I absolutely love the way you go on a tangent just to make a sarcastic joke, and it works cause that's your inner-self speaking without filter. Keep up the great work "Got more drip than the river nile" man!
I'm a simple man from Kentucky. I see some bloke from Kent in England providing wise-ass commentary about Japan, and I can't help but watch...because he and his content are addicting to watch. And, because I love Japan.
Just sayin', Chris, you are my favorite Japan-based RUclipsr for like 6 years straight.
I understand you get hate but everybody does. Don't try to let it get to you. You are genuinely one of the best presenters on RUclips. Your cinematography has improved SO much.
People insulting Brits in comments etc clearly don't understand that our entire style of humor is based on us insulting ourselves. You have no power here!
Us Brits and our self-depreciating humour 😂
I love the British people and their humor !
Monty Python is my all time favourite.
As a fan of cats and Chris Broad, it was my favorite cat documentary I’d ever watched! To be fair though, it’s the only cat documentary I’ve watched.
lol
Man I swear I love you. You know you've made it when you get this much hate. Keep doing you, Chris!
Flawless logic over here. /s
I feel like a lot of people who have never actually been to Japan have infantilized an entire country and culture to the point of seeing any dissenting viewpoint as a wholesale attack that must be retaliated against. It's deeply problematic, and I feel like you get the brunt of these kinds of people's vitriol because you aren't sycophantic, preferring instead of have a personality of your own. I'm glad that it hasn't kept you from being your genuine self, because I thoroughly enjoy your content!
I love the way this man rambles on about certain comments and remarks. The sarcasm, irony and self loathing are out of this world.
As an actual cat person, that cat stroller disturbs me to... you're spot on with that. Doesn't look like a safe or smart way to transport cats at all.
Yeah, the safest and fastest way is with a catapult obviously
@@OneFinalAutumn no! Ehmhenm no! Give them lsd
Holy crap-berries, Batman! It's been a while since I watched anything on this channel, and Chris has gotten even better. Impressive work!
Yo Chris your hard work is appriciated and i hope you will have the best Christmas even though your plans got fucked up
poor guy!! at least we get lots of new RUclips videos out of it 😂
Chris is the epitome of cynical pessimistic British humour... and i bloody love it.
exactly!!! feel like i am in the UK 🇬🇧 when i listen to him rant about Japan 🇯🇵
Dude you took the jump people dont. You Danced and did well. Congrats Im impressed . This from a guy that saw You Tube in day one and never took advantage.
