And stop the copious amounts of inappropriate laughter during dramatic parts of the film. These teachers themselves react like young schoolboys.....ha ha
I've sent a message to "Rob Squad movie reactions". They are married, and both are teachers in Oklahoma. I suggested to them that you all should do a shared reaction. I think it would be amazing, and I hope you all will consider it. Love the channel.
I was at school in the 60`s in the UK and my desk was like these. it had an inkwell and we used a pen and nib. Being a lefty the ink was always up my sleeve, Thank you Lazlo Biro for a decent pen.
Another brilliant bit of British social history in a movie is the 1968 film "Up the Junction" based on a BBC play. Based in Battersea a poor area of London. Battersea has come a long way since those days.
It's the problem of presentism - judging the lives and actions of people in the past by today's standards. I don't know how many times in the past 8-10 years I've heard someone say some version of "they should have known that what they were doing would be unacceptable in the future" -- as though today's mores are the ultimate expression of propriety and justice.
I love the idea of real teachers reacting to this amazing film. However, talking over the dialogue is frustrating. You and your viewers are missing important content. It would be nice if you were to pause to make comments. Just a suggestion.
HELPFUL HINT - Watch the movie. DO NOT talk over it. I think I really could've enjoyed watching you react to the movie. I could not enjoy you not only talking over the movie but also missing important dialogue. I know you edit these, but the problems I'm seeing are not due to the process. Use the pause button when you want to talk. Good luck, guys!
The flick is very similar to movies like “Dangerous Minds” and “Stand & Deliver”, with that history of troubled kids that are given and opportunity that were never before until meeting a new teacher that even though while with problems get to them at first both sides start to grow closer to each other, by respecting both ways, and talk down to the kids without putting them down, but being honest with them making them realized no matter how they are in the school the real world is gonna hit them hard and to the ground if they do not get ready better themselves. Like in Sister Act II (a similar movie to these ones) “If you want to be somebody, if you want to go somewhere, you better wake up and pay attention.”
I agree! I'm only 10 minutes in and I can't watch anymore. I'm switching to another reaction and won't be subscribing to this channel. Hope these guys do better on future films.
You haven`t picked up that they are in their last term. Normal education is a bit late in the day for these pupils. Who obviously have been failed by the system.
Yes. In fact, it isn't realistic to speak of Mr. Thackery as a "teacher." What people overlook is that he only got the students to behave and show interest when he threw out academics and books and made his classroom a free discussion session. Doubtless, the students did learn some things that benefited them, but this isn't school as it was intended to be. Even a vocational school has to teach actual subjects that take work and diligent practice to learn - cosmetology, auto mechanics, woodworking.
That song and movie (To Sir With Love) has had as very special place in my life, while I’m not a teacher, both my parents are, and one of them even ended up being my teacher on 3rd, 5th and 6th grade, so I think a had a special privilege to see first hand how hard a teacher job can be a times, (from both sides of the curtain), and the impact and difference a person in that position can make on a kid or teen when both sides meet on common ground.
I'm 60 now. When I was growing up, women who needed to get to the grocery store or just go about their life would just tie a nice scarf over their curlers. It wasn't that abnormal. It was typical. Most of the grown-up ladies in the market had curlers under a scarf. (Though usually they *would* cover it with a scarf.)
I don't understand why you chat through all the scenes while looking at each other. How can you possibly KNOW what is going on in the scenes, when you aren't listening or watching most of it? Play the scene THEN pause and TALK about what you saw in the scene and how you feel about it. You are MISSING a lot. You totally talked through an important scene when they were telling him why the girls couldn't take the flowers to a "colored person's home" Thackery was NOT a teacher, he is an engineer and only took the teaching job in order to live until he could find a job in his field of engineering. The whole reaction was very frustrating and disappointing since you were more interested in chatting with each other, than paying attention to the movie. How did you enjoy it when you spent the whole time talking? Sorry, I have never seen a reactor or group of reactors that talked over as much as the film as you two did. Hope you do better next time. I won't subscribe at this time.
..@@the_teachers_lounge Our day out , By willy Russell maybe a under the radar but once seen never forget and think still be had on Tubes of You hole of rabbits ...
Well there was, in a way. The girls, nor the boys, could be seen entering a "colored person's home" (to take the flowers to their fellow student, whose mother died) because "you can't imagine what people would say."
The song Lulu is singing at 7:00 is called "Stealing my love from me." I believe it was on the movie's soundtrack - which is a hard to find album. But the song is on RUclips.
You guys really need to check out other highly subbed movie reactors to get some pointers on how this works. Waaaaay too much talking over the movie. It gets annoying after awhile.
The school leaving age in England and Wales at that time was 15. It was raised to 16 in 1972. Clearly the cast are somewhat older than that, so it gives a misleading impression. There was no compulsory curriculum in English schools at that time. The only subject that schools were required by law to teach was religious instruction. The curriculum for subjects examined externally was set by the exam boards. I think the children in the film are leaving school at age 15 without taking any exams, so it really would have been up to the local education authority, the school's head teacher and the classroom teachers what they would be taught. As for corporal punishment, I was in secondary school from 1968-1975, in a state grammar school. I was caned twice in the first few years there and our Latin teacher was still whacking us round the head with a textbook around 1973.
This school is located in a poorer working-class neighborhood. The parents both work and are poorly educated themselves as you saw from the women on the bus in the opening scenes. The kids are not being brought up with manners or good values. The parents probably have little time for their kids so the only attention they get is when they act up. I believe these kids see a pretty bleak future for themselves.
quiet a few of that class went to have a great time after that film the teacher went on to be cat weazel the female teacher went to star on tv and stage one of the male pupils went on to play Eric POLLARD in tv seriesi UK E merdale
Thank goodness movies are made in such a way that you can look away from the screen and talk over the dialogue while sustaining the illusion you actually watched the movie. I gave up on this chinwag after 15-minutes.
Suggestion: Hit Pause then Talk, Hit play then Do Not Talk.
Agree, teachers who do not listen
And stop the copious amounts of inappropriate laughter during dramatic parts of the film. These teachers themselves react like young schoolboys.....ha ha
Fantastic movie! So glad you guys have a take on it.
How can you critique something if you don’t watch it.

Good luck getting any reactor to watch a movie you suggest.
I've had a few reactors watch movies that I suggested. I guess I am lucky...or an influencer...lol
I also hope they watch it. I follow them too.
I was at school in the 60`s in the UK and my desk was like these. it had an inkwell and we used a pen and nib. Being a lefty the ink was always up my sleeve, Thank you Lazlo Biro for a decent pen.
I first used them in school too, IN the 50's.
I would really love to watch the film, without the running commentary from the two teachers
Smug buggers who would not last too long in an inner city school in the UK.

You can`t equate this time period with your perception of what is correct today. Correct the future. Do not rewrite the past.
i would agree with that!!!!

Epic amounts of *Inappropriate Laughter* but I still enjoyed their reaction.
I love your premise, but your constant yapping over the film is too much for me to finish watching. I wish you the best.
I agree! I'm only 10 minutes in and I can't watch anymore. I'm switching to another reaction and won't be subscribing to this channel. Hope these guys do better on future films.
I love this movie but you two had 50% too much dialogue with each other. Just constructive criticism sirs.
In the book, sir and the young blonde teacher marry.
Mark isn`t actually a teacher. He is an engineer who can`t get a job, and takes this as a temporary measure.

Yes, it IS Patricia Routledge. ( As if you didn't know by now.... )

You could also watch an Arnold Swarzenegger movie called Kindergarten Cop. Good comedy
It's on our list. And the sequel starring Dolph Lundgren!

Are you going to compare the original to sir with love with the to sir with love 2. Twenty years later?✌️
At the time there was nothing racially implied in this movie.
Well there was, in a way. The girls, nor the boys, could be seen entering a "colored person's home" (to take the flowers to their fellow student, whose mother died) because "you can't imagine what people would say."
Hey guys... the kids loved him.... so it's an A ;-)
Another good movie you should react to is the original 1939 school movie Goodbye Mr Chips?✌️
Lulu was married to Maurice Gibb of the BeeGees.
Yes. Also, her real name was Marie Laurie.
The song Lulu is singing at 7:00 is called "Stealing my love from me." I believe it was on the movie's soundtrack - which is a hard to find album. But the song is on RUclips.
Either watch & react to the movie or don't. People aren't interested in your side chatter.
Hard to react when they don't even pay attention.

I teach in Korea. Girls have been wearing rollers in their bangs a lot recently. Not sure who gave them the okay.
Mrs. Bucket
Too much talking and not enough watching,

Way too much unrelated conversation. Can't watch anymore.

You talk too much!
too much talking and not enough listening...... you know thats what you tell your students!!!!!
Imagine that! Teachers who won't listen. 😆😆😆
After this one will you react to Sidney Poitier's other school movie called Blackboard jungle?✌️
You talk alot and say nothing!
Thank goodness movies are made in such a way that you can look away from the screen and talk over the dialogue while sustaining the illusion you actually watched the movie. I gave up on this chinwag after 15-minutes.
