- Racy moments from Groucho's quiz show that couldn't be broadcast. They were compiled into "stag reels" for the annual sponsors' conventions. This is part two of a reel taken from shows filmed in 1959-1960.

It amuses me to repeat once again that Groucho was a genius!!
Groucho Marx was a n intelligent man with lightning fast come backs. It will be a long time until we get another man with his genius. I am very happy that I was around to see the master!

Thank goodness these outtakes were not wiped or lost . Most of these ordinary people were the funniest and wittiest ever and usually middle aged or older . Of course they needed the presence and wit of Groucho to make it all work .
Oh, how I truly love 'real' comedy!. I can't think of anything today that can match or surpass Groucho and the great comedians from our yesteryears. Those folks were true comedians. Thanks for taking the time to post these gems! I sure needed a laugh...

Watching him, you have a sense he knows in the moment that this is timeless and that we will be watching in the future, the way he looks at the camera, he just knows. No one is or has ever been this naturally funny, every ounce of his presence is funny.
That old gentleman at 5:12 got Groucho back with style!

The soil was rich with minerals back then, we've used up a lot of them. You would need to eat about 5x as much vegetables to get the same amount of nutrients now than you would have back then.
When you watch these old shows you realise how silly it is to be bothered by everything, in the end it will all be for nothing.

@@nalissolus9213 homeopathy has much to it. think about it...aspirin comes from birch bark, penicillin from bread mold...nature can cure nature's ills...otherwise you have the science of chemisty which speeds up what are mostly natural reactions - and that's good too...but laboratory fabricated chemicals tend to be responded to by the body as artificial...which creates negative side effects.

love groucho's approach to the show, let the guests go on, throw a couple out there, and let the producer and censors worry about it.
"I always like to leave something they can remove. One week it's gonna be me." HA! What a great inside comment. I bet he got into fights with the censors as much as the Smothers Brothers and Howard Stern did.
Like with the cigar comment he made to a woman with about 15 children. She said she liked children. He said he likes his cigar too but he takes it out once in a while. BOOM! Censored!!!
My favorite clip was when he had a very heavy guy on the show groucho asked him his name The guy said David Whalen groucho blurts out well your appropriately named

I absolutely LOVE the southern woman in this clip. I grew up in Detroit from 63-84 and the well known fact up there about southerners was they were dim, ignorant, couldn’t speak properly and, of course, racist. When I got stationed at Fort Bragg it took me about a month to realize how incredibly intelligent in ways that ran circles around most of the city population I was raised around, quick witted, thoughtful, friendly and as far from racist as I’ve ever seen. Up until then I never experienced getting insulted so endearingly I felt like it was a compliment haha. “Well, bless your heart” is not a compliment for those passing through. I’ve lived down here ever since.

When I was a kid my Dad would watch these programs, even then they were reruns but now that I've lived and watched t.v. change over decades what I like most from those times is that comedians were not only cleaner delivering jokes but even when it was dirty the joke was not thrown at you in a way without thought. EX. The mistletoe-"Mans mind like a race horse, works best on a dirt track" Clever.
Never heard the one about the mistletoe attached to the bottom of the jacket before.

You can't stop laughing or smiling with Groucho. Too bad these out takes were left on the cutting room floor. The only one I thought was over the top (although hilarious) was the mistletoe joke, which I thought was actually fairly mild since he did not deliver it in a "colored' accent but in his own. The "intakes" of that preacher were quite funny, though, also among those recorded for youtube.

Well, the funny thing is that being "colored" has nothing to do with the joke -- he didn't tell it in dialect, and there are no racial or ethnic double-meanings at all. It's really just a "preacher" joke, and a funny one at that!
