The Red River Shootout was a non-con game for 70+ years. By putting OU in the SWC you killed the OU vs Missouri rivalry, Bedlam, and the Battle of the Big Reds (again). Put OU in the Big 8.
Would be easy to switch OU and Tulsa, so that the Southwest isn't too strong and the Big 8 can be more equal with other power conferences. Also, the Utah and BYU thing just feels like a forced move to bump the number to 10, when they fit in better with PAC/MWC type schools. Edit: I totally see how the goal is for every conference to have 10 or 11 (so I'll support it if that's the locked rules), but in future realignment ideas, please feel free to be comfortable with having different sized conferences amongst each other so that some moves don't feel forced.
Yeah it honesty just came down to numbers and my goal to keep all conferences at 10 to 11 teams max. I had a hard time figuring out where to put Utah and BYU and the Big8 just seemed like the best fit out of the options I had.
Bro why are navy and army in the western athletic conference does that even make sense at all a Maryland and new York team playing in a western conference it's like ucla in the big tdn
How you going to leave Temple out of the big East and you should have just kept Vandy in the sec because they just going to force their self's back in it anyway
Temple I agree looking back I should have put them in the Big East. I keep my Vandy take they don’t belong in the SEC when it comes to Football. The American would give them a chance to actually win football games.
Quick fix: expand the playoffs to 16 teams, with 9 automatic bids, one for each of the 9 FBS conferences. Every team would have a chance to play their way in, like every other sport on every other level. And the top 11 P4 teams in the playoff would be exactly the same as they are now (four P4 champions and 7 at-large teams.) Bigger fix: Add North Dakota State and South Dakota State to get FBS to 136 teams. Then split into a 64-team upper division and a 72-team lower division. Make four geographically based 16-team conferences in the upper division. Make four corresponding geographically based 18-team conferences in the lower division. Have separate 8-team playoffs for each division, with 4 conference winners and 4 at-large teams. Promote the top lower division team in each conference at the end of the season, and relegate the bottom upper division team in each conference.
I like the idea of the conferences being more geographically correct and the relegations being a lot more straight forward. This is a great idea, might have to steal it and make a video 🤔😉.
No relegation for the SEC, it’s perfect the way it is. But everyone else is fair game if you can get them to agree. As for the playoff, as long as half the SEC teams are in it, that will be fine as well.
UTSA would fit better in the South West Conference replacing Rice. Rice fits better with the WAC as they can probably be middle of the pack there and be able to compete. UTSA is at 8-3 vs Rice and is in its own city. UH takes Houston. The WAC texas team should be leftover second teams of Texas cities.
That Definitely would make the SWC a better conference on paper, but I feel like UTSA would thrive better in the WAC since they could have a chance of being the big fish in a small pond and with my playoff format, they could make the playoffs each year rather than just hoping they can be a middle of the pack team to in the SWC. Rice has no chance of being great despite the conference.
