Your video should be the gold standard for other RUclipsrs. Not only are u good at woodwork , but also making videos. No nonsense, no garbage, no silliness, no annoying music, . Plus I picked up great information, and great tips!. Thank you, and im looking forward to seeing your other videos. cheers from USA! ( San Diego , CA)
When I say I have no space, I mean I live in an apartment building lol. Can't run a tablesaw in my bedroom with neighbors on all sides. Some people literally have no space for a woodshop. Hopefully will move into a place with a garage soon though! This video will come in handy then.
Hey! Great to see another chapter from Off Cuts. Small space efficiency is an art unto itself. My shop is a small single car garage that I still park in when there's not a project underway. My solution was mobile shop stationary tool cabinets. They all nest against the walls. No space for material so I buy what I need for each build. Glad to see you've survived the zombie apocalypse!
Thank you! Everyone's needs and space is different so it's all about doing what works for you! I didn't think there would be much need for putting things on wheels because my shop is so small I got no where to wheel them to haha.
Nice tour. Workshop looks great. More over , you proved in this video that you don’t need fancy stuff to do great work. It’s the skill and passion that matter. Thanks for the tour and the video.
Thanks for this, it is very inspiring as my shop is similar in size. Now I can scrap the frustration and move forward. The table saw idea is very practical and the quality of your work indicates that you don't have a wobbling issue as previously stated by sad...
Thanks! Its probably my shaky hands holding the camera haha. I've jumped and climbed on the table saw with it pulled out and it has no issues. All the best for your shop!
I am very very very new to woodworking, but i've loved CAD/3DS max and making things with those just because i personally enjoy doing it, and i've been second guessing that decent products could be made from plywood, but this really changed my mind about that completely. Its super cool to see whats possible with limited tools and limited space!
bumped into this channel as you do wandering about on youtube! Some great ideas. My garage workshop is almost identical to yours being a small 1950's house in the UK. I have to have a full walk through as no side access to garden (dim 1950's builders) I have replaced the up and over garage door with an electric shutter and have installed a 2.5 metre electric awning outside that allows a bit more rain free cover. Will explore your other videos….. oh yes like your idea for a temp saw horse workbench, ive pencilled a make for one of these as I have 1/2 doz of these cheap gizmos.
Hey thanks! I also have a back door to access the back garden. But have blocked it off with the plywood cart. But easy enough to wheel it out of the way if I ever need to get to it. The awning sounds great. Unfortunately my driveway is on a slope so it's not that practical to work on it.
I take a similar approach to my work ute, I’m a one man band sparky and work out of 1800x1800 tool box canopy. You just have to use the space wisely and carry/order what you need at the time for the next job. I find the smaller the space the more organised you are and time management is improved.
I park my car in mine, so my tablesaw is my only workspace, and I work mainly in off cuts. Your off cuts are my gold mine 😂. Great use of space, lots of stuff in a small airea and nothing is too cluttered 👍
Kudos for making such great use of so little space. It's inspirational, especially as you're proof again that it's skill the matter most of all, not a big, fancy workshop or hundreds of tools : )
Ok so just found this channel and was so amazed how well documented I think is the correct word to use it is and your content is amazing and so high quality I love to watch your videos and hope I can make a youtube channel just half as good would be incredible. Even though I live in the uk and am a teen woodwork enthusiast I would love to meet you one day so just make sure to keep the superb content up
Talk about making the most of what you have! It's funny how we live in this spacious, relatively sparsely populated country yet so many of us have small workshops. Having said that I think you've proven that 6 x 3 is enough to make it work - and making a living off it at that! 👍
Thanks Rob! Efficiency is a big factor in a workshop or any work environment for me. I've seen huge workshops that were so badly laid out that there was so much dead space that made the shop seem half the size. But I think bigger spaces can be a bit of a trap in thinking that you have lots of space so you can just put stuff anywhere and eventually lose half of your workshop haha.
@@TheOffcut Yeah and I think being tidy (or not) is a big factor in efficiency and that's where bigger spaces can start to seem much smaller and become quite dysfunctional. Layout, flow, and process are probably more important to success than anything. (success = ability to output to standard within time constraint in this case)
Scott brown sent me and I’m glad I came. Love your work, I’m a carpenter in Australia who wants to get into cabinet and furniture making. Your stuff looks great
I have watch you building your shop for a while and it really is laid out well. I would like to give you one suggestion that will make cutting full sheets of plywood very easy in your small shop. I built a panel saw cutting system that hold the sheet at 12 degrees to allow me to cut it easily in any direction. I built the detachable pieces to mount (in under 2 minutes) to my garage door (when down) and also modified it to mount to my 52" tablesaw (several videos). If you watch the first one ("cutting plywood in a small shop"), I think you will be able to take the idea and modify a system to work in your shop as well. Cutting plywood sheets is so easy now for me, I think you will find it can work for you too. Keep up the great videos and stay safe :>)
Nice use of space... and good to see more of us Kiwi makers on RUclips. My shop is a basement with house piles that I dance around ... (hmmm I should actually do a video of dancing around the house piles... oh it's a love hate thing) lol
Great video Thank you. Over these years I also trained myself to move away from videos broadcasting bigger shops and more expensive/fancier tools (like festoons etc)
"Narrower than most single car workshops". 3m wide is a luxury to me. My garage is only 2.5m x 4m. Thanks for the great tips in this video for a small shop.
Nice video :) very efficient use of your space. Subbed. I really like the the idea of hanging the clamps on the side of the worksbench. I will try to copy that hehe. I have them all piled up in a big drawer now.
One of the hardest habits is sorting and tossing small off cuts. Your collection pile isn't too bad. Personally, I toss the triangles; toss the knots; then toss the stuff much smaller than normally used; then toss the rougher form stuff. I try my best to limit it to 2 plastic medium containers, of only solid wood. Sticking them in the back corner is like "out of sight, out of mind". Cardboard box means it has to go. The little shop is still cool.
Haha yes. Most of that pile is to be chucked away but at this rate the bin gets full of scraps from the projects I'm currently working on and has no more space to throw out some of the pile...
I would love to have a work shop as big as yours is. I live in an apartment, and have to run up and down stairs, to take my table saw out side to make cuts.
Great video, your shop is really efficient and organized, that small table portable with plastic sawhorses is nice ill try to make one myself, do you have any plans of it, or will you show it in a video, also no planer or jointer, how do you manage to square solid wood, i wonder, keep bringing this great content, and thanks for showing us you shop
Thanks! I will have a think about doing plans for the workbench. But I can go into it in more detail in another video. If I need solid wood I will resort to getting it pre dressed so I don't need to worry about squaring it up.
i love your videos and i just want to know how did transition or start your business. I'm a furniture maker too but im a welder and wanna get my hands on some plywood but i dont have a ute and i'm at work 6 days a week how would you work around getting material delivered to your house but not being there to unload it
I just discovered your channel. Have you done a video on your building of your portable workbench? I’m working out of an apartment, recently picked up a set of plastic sawhorses, and your workbench design looks like it would work well for me.
Thanks! I haven’t sorry. But it is based off the Ron Paulk workbench which he goes over in a lot of detail. I just made it to suit my size and work flow

So are you using a shop vac and cyclone for dust collection? As a newer person in the hobby dust collection seems somewhat daunting in terms of thinking I need a larger system vs the shop vac route, using my 2 car garage with similar tools as yourself
Yes. I have 2 shop vacs, 1 that I modified into a cyclone (I have another video on the build) that sits in the corner for things like vacuuming the floor and connecting to the table saw and other stationery tools. And the other one to connect to hand tools like my sander and track saw. I find that is all that I need for my small shop and it doesn't take up much space compared to a dust extractor set up.
hey man awesome video. I have the deros and the ct 15 also, best sander vac combo imo! Would you happen to have plans for that little systainer platform ontop of the vac? id really appreciate it. Keep killing it man!

So cool. I like how you made your workshop and put your clamps and tools in good use and the cabinets and table and portable workbench
Thank you very much!

Appreciate it!
Such a well thought out and simple layout. The portable bench looks like it makes a big difference too.
Definitely does! I didn’t think I would use it this much
