  • Another great upgrade here! I've enhanced the 1981 Week 8 Dolphins at Cowboys game. Source recording was in very nice shape, but as is usually the case, the contrast was too low and the color was pretty drab. Resolve did a really nice job addressing those issues - MAJOR color pop now. Topaz was used to denoise, sharpen, upscale, and double the framerate. See before/after shots here -- imgbox.com/g/WoHB4AfkM3 -- My thanks to Fort Knox and his Seahawks RUclips channel -- www.youtube.com/@fortknox4740... -- for providing the DVD files for this project.

      You did a phenomenal job on this game. The colors are crisp, clean, and sharp. Another exceptional job sir. 👏 The biggest reason why I really love to watch these older classic games is that I really love the classic retro uniforms and helmets they wore in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I'm not going to list them since I've done that a few times already, but the Aqua Blue colors of the 🐬🐬Miami🐬Dolphins🐬🐬 home uniforms just pops, and the always classic look of the 🤠⭐Dallas⭐Cowboys⭐🤠 is always great to see. Plus these are two of the most iconic NFL Coaches in NFL History. Tom Landry & Don Shula are those coaches. Bud Grant is another, as is John Madden, Chuck Knox, Chuck Noll, Don Coryell, and of course Vince Lombardi are a few others, just to name a few. I was so lucky/blessed to have been able to watch these coaches, and their incredibly talented teams play. But to be able to have a chance to watch them again? In 1080p HD? Now THAT TRULY IS A BLESSING!

    Ah, one of my all-time favorite Cowboys games--that I didn't see the ending of for over 20 years. I suppose I deserved that, as I gave up on the Cowboys for the first time in my 14 years as a fan. I was a young man still living at home in the Washington, D.C. area while going to school. A friend called during the second half because he was trying to drum up a few friends to go out for dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I was sorely tempted, but the Cowboys' game was on and they came before every other entertainment priority. Besides, the game had started going south for Dallas, so I had to stay in front of the TV and will them to victory. But when the Dolphins scored for the third time in the half and pushed the score to 27-14, I figured the Cowboys could lose just as well without me as with me, and there was no reason to give up a chance to chow down on a Comida Grande (literally, "Big Food", a wonderful combo platter piled high with a tamale, a burrito, two enchiladas, refried beans, and salad) just so I could share the misery of defeat. So I bailed on the game, called up my friend, and headed out.
    When we got to the house of the last person we were picking up, his parents were channel surfing and happened to click past the game. In that split second I could see Cowboys players jumping around in the end zone, so I quickly asked his dad to go back (I did it with such force that I actually startled him). The Cowboys had just scored for the second time in a few minutes, and had pulled ahead, 28-27. I wanted to stay to watch the end of the game, but I knew my friend's dad wouldn't be too happy with that (being a lifelong Marylander, he had no interest in the Cowboys, and I think I always kind of annoyed him anyway because I was a little too loud and exuberant when I was younger), so our group went on our way . As soon as I got to the restaurant I called home and talked to my parents to check on the game. That's when I found out it had gone final at 28-27 Cowboys. Not having a VCR at the time, I actually did not see the remainder of the 4th quarter and that epic comeback until I found out that some old games could be had and was able to acquire a copy in the early 2000s.
    This enhancement is a huge cherry on top of one of the more satisfying sundaes in Cowboys history (see what I did there?), as the colors are so clear and vivid. The Dolphins' jerseys and Shula's orange sweater especially pop. It's like watching it again for the first time, and I don't think the game could've possibly looked this good when it aired live on our 1967-vintage color TV. Thanks, as always, Dave! This is one for the books.

      I have an interesting 1981 cowboys story. I was 12 years old and the cowboys were playing the eagles in week 15 at 4pm on a Sunday. The cowboys were losing 10-0 in the first half and now it was almost 5pm and my parents made me go to church with them. I told them I didn’t want to go because the cowboys were playing but they made me go anyway. So as I was in church I was not listening to anything the priest was saying. I was just kneeling and praying that the cowboys would come back. Mass ended at 5:45 and when I got home at 6 pm the cowboys were leading 21-10 and that ended up being the final score. I had told my parents that from now on I am going to church on Saturday night mass at 7 pm with my friend down the block who was an alter boy. So now I was happy that I would never miss anymore Sunday football. You can check pro football reference on week 15 and look at the Boxscore.

Czonka was the powerful running back, while Mercury Morris was the quicker more elusive and agile back. The 70's as I've said many many times before were the best times for watching Football. The Announcers were spot on perfect, the camera work may not have had as many "angles", or flat out as many 🎥🎥cameras🎥🎥 in general still broadcasted a better overall game. Sometimes when doing these enhancements the color won't really 'latch' onto a drab picture and I know that it could look better, but because of the quality of the original recording it ain't gonna happen. • @davevolskysbackdoor5673

      It just depends on the game. Probably over 90% of the games I attempt to upload will post fine. They will still get flagged for copyright, but you're still allowed to post them - you just can't monetize them, which is something I've never done anyway. If it's a famous game or contains famous plays however, there's a good chance that the play/game is in the RUclips/NFL copyright database and in these specific instances the game will actually be blocked for viewing. This is why I always check to see if what I'd like to work on next is already posted on RUclips by someone else. If it is, there's a good chance I'll be ok, and I can even do a quick test upload first to find out. If the game hasn't been posted by anyone else before, there's a good chance they couldn't post it because it was blocked, but I can still test-upload to find out. I've run across these games the last few months that I've verified will be blocked if attempted to be uploaded:
      1975 AFC Championship
      1977 AFC Championship
      1978 Colts at Patriots

He also threw 63 interceptions vs just 48 TD passes, making him one of only 2 QB's in NFL history to have a career win pct above .600 while throwing at least 10 more interceptions than TDs. Dolphins won on great defense and defense alone during those years. Had they had a competent QB, they could have won a couple Super Bowls during that run. They wasted a few years of Bill Arnsparger's defensive genius. And then of course, they got the QB and soon after lost Arnsparger, so the problem literally flipped in reverse the rest of Marino's career. Couldn't put the two together.

    Both teams so well Coached, just watching the execution of the offensive lines and how they stayed with their blocks is something you don’t see today. As a Dolphins fan I was amazed that Don Shula who is usually pretty conservative would allow Woolley to throw the ball with a 1.47 left and they were basically in field goal range. I mean it was unlike them especially such a high risk pass over the middle.

    • @jmbuff1
      @jmbuff1 4 месяца назад +1

      Exactly the same thought. It is absolutely mind boggling to not only throw, but to throw that distance down the MIDDLE of the field in that situation! Just insane with a QB of Woodley's level. I think it maybe shows you how little confidence they had in Von Schamann.

      @@jmbuff1, Yea I went back and watched it a few times to see maybe if the receiver ran the wrong route or something. It looked like Harris cut underneath the coverage and Woolley who had a strong arm just overthrew him. Again, I know Van Schumann had struggled but he had also made big kicks during his career. The 5 int’s hurt as well but Shula not running the ball in that situation especially to continue to run the clock because an incomplete pass would stop it. I kinda wish they wouldn’t post stuff like this these old games I mean, just brings back too many hurtful memories and reminds me why I hate Dallas so much Lol… This 81 team was a good team but they just always found a way to hurt themselves. Got behind 24-0 against the Chargers in that crazy playoff game that they wound up losing 41-38 in OT. Actually comeback to lead that game 38-31 out scoring the Chargers 38-7 during that stretch after falling behind. Turnovers at crucial times though hurt them.

    • @davevolskysbackdoor5673
      @davevolskysbackdoor5673  8 месяцев назад +1

      Topaz is a program that enhances videos (denoises, sharpens, upscales, doubles framerate, etc). It isn't an editor. I use Da Vinci Resolve for the editing and color/contrast grading portion of the process. For each enhanced game that I work on, I first rip each game DVD to MP4 using Handbrake. I then bring that MP4 into Topaz and have it enhance the video. I then take that enhancement and bring it into Resolve to perform edits and color grading and then I render out the final version. That's the process. Obviously there are a lot more nuances involved in between that you'd have to learn. Topaz isn't a free program - it costs $299 for one year of updates, but it can be had on occasion for less when they have sales. Resolve actually has a free version which is what I use. You also have to have a beefy system in order to use these programs. I just bought a new PC back in January, but even with that it still takes about 12-15 hours for me to rip, enhance, edit, color grade, and render out one game. Lot of processing time and toil involved if you want to do it right

      Thanks! Is topaz a program like Adobe or an AI program?@@davevolskysbackdoor5673

      I've never used Adobe, but Resolve is probably more like it. Topaz doesn't have TONS of options to make it over-complicated either. They offer a free trial of the program that leaves a big watermark if you want to try it out first. The full name of the program is Topaz Video AI. I remember this game like it was yesterday. David Woodley repeatedly torched the Cowboys and had his best game ever as a Dolphin. Too bad he had that late interception to spoil his performance. This could have been one of the best Dolphin victories in their history.

    where was qb throwing too. we could have run the clock down to try a fg. no guarantee the kicker would have made it he wasnt very consistent

    Both teams would lose epic playoff games at the end of this season. Dallas to San Francisco in "THE CATCH" game and Miami to San Diego 41 to 38 in OT in one of the greatest playoff games ever.

      Yea Woodley could chuck it and had good size AND mobility...but just couldnt read the field well and had personal issues. Not a good qb overall but Miami was able to get a SB appearance out of him

    Today's NFL the dolphins kill the clock fg game over. In 1981 43 yard fg was risky so they threw

    wow !! awesome enhancements !! the NFL needs to hire you. The only NFL I watch these days are the 70s/80s vintage games (I lost interest in today's NFL / the over-saturated 24/7 coverage took all the suspense out of the game).

    Great upgrade. Reminds me of being 19 years old and watching on KXAS in Dallas. The only difference is I listened to the radio broadcast on KRLD with Verne Lundquist and Brad Sham. So much better than Enberg who keeps getting players' names wrong. Thanks Dave!!

    Those uniforms really do look fairly comical now. All pads and sleeves waving like flags. QBs shaped like place kickers. And the players and plays look slow developing. I was in 2nd grade here, so what I consider "classic" NFL is probably ~10 years later.
