    I tried PvP once, but it was not as cool as I've thought it would be. I played solo on a duo server, it kinda went well because I leveled pretty fast. But one day I found all my stuff gone and couldn't do anything because I wasn't max level and the guys were teaming with other duos. Also I don't like the fact that I have to make a horrible looking castle, all honeycombed, for it to be defendable.

    My main concern with PvP isn't fear but that rather it encourages you to skip parts of the game that I think are part of the fun. Another thing is that timing seems to be important, joining a server when it wipes seems to be necessary to have a good PvP experience. I'll try it though after finishing the game in PvE

      omg... I wish I could like this comment 50 times. This is EXACTLY what I wanted to get across to people. There is no difference to me in getting griefed in PvP by someone and having someone in PvE steal all your mats etc because they can and you can't do anything about it. In PvP, at least you get new and fun experiences at any given time, and get a chance to defend yourself/resources!
      A big one too is finding a fun PvP private server with PvP rules geared towards fun and not "competitive" or "no rules" servers. It makes a big difference if you can't get killed by some max lvl player when you're just cruising in dunley at lvl 40.

    I really want to believe that I could commit to a pvp server (no raids) but I really feel it would only take one or two beat downs and I would be regretting the choice and staring again on a Pve. I really enjoy watching others play with pvp involved, especially the content you put out. Its almost like I get to enjoy two completely different sides of the game, one playing, one watching. I know you say you expected to be downvoted on that reddit post lol but its crazy that other PVE enjoyers are so against your opinion when you are simply trying to encourage people to give it a go (and experience more from a game that we obviously all enjoy). Im hanging out to see update times so I can plan the day accordingly!

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah man I totally understand why people don't like PvP, and why they would prefer PvE. It makes sense not wanting to have to worry about losing resources or getting your castle deleted, but I really think there's a "right" PvP server for everyone. No Raid servers, servers with no griefing, servers with no camping, no teaming etc. RPG PvP, RP PvP, No Raid+No Durability loss servers... There's so many out there.
      At the very least, it's a fun thing to try, and I'll keep making content to support/help/teach/inspire people to step out of their comfort zone and try it, (as well as improve their own gameplay), but obviously at the end of the day, YOU DO YOU haha. Enjoy the game however you like, even if it's just progression runs by yourself or w.e.
      And yeah, I've been on that sub since EA launch. It's been that way for a loooong time. People take ANY suggestion to try PvP as a personal attack, and are like... vehemently against people supporting it. There's even a thread right now from a guy saying "I'm new to the game, should I give PvP a try?" and it was downvoted to oblivion. It's just so crazy haha

    if anyone wants to have a fun PvP experience with V-Rising, a well manage an moderated private server its best. Having some enforced rules to avoid things like teaming and AFK raids. Raid times on days/hrs where people are more active also enhances the PvP experience. Officials servers are very often abandon really quick cuz of teaming done by 14+ player groups that grief everyone into leaving the server for another one.

    A lot of good points in this video, from the spontaneity of PvP servers to scrub mentality to where to practice fighting. I'm someone who played Rust, Conan Exiles, and Ark a fair bit. If you're into top down high skill based combat (there are no targeted abilities against enemy players, like click on them to deal guaranteed damage style moves), and rust-ish gameplay, it's a great game.

    Its not worth playing PvP to anyone who has to go outside and doesn't know min maxing, I don't wanna waste 2 hours looking for a official PvP server when the majority of them have toxic top clans that gatekeep or just keep you weaker so they can always still crush you if they want/need to it's just not a lasting online experience in my opinion because the more time its out the better the toxic no-lifes get at gatekeeping and controlling more servers. this is a game you can only play online if you don't want to play any other game for awhile, I have friends asking me to play other things, but if I play this it was all just a waste of time cause I get off to play something else for a few hours and now I'm way behind and someone can gatekeep and make it all pointless.

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад

      Sounds like you'd be more interesting in a private server with Anti-griefing rules. Generally give a 10 lvl gap MAX on someone killing you, which gives new players and people who don't have 16 hours a day to play some breathing room.
      PvP can be amazing in this game, but I agree if you hit a bad server/a server that doesn't really vibe with your wants/needs, it can be super unfun

  • @josephjohnson5415
    @josephjohnson5415 5 месяцев назад +4

    The population caps on pvp servers is a genius move because no pvp game can ever truly retain its population. Sadly most players just suck and it becomes an algorithmic problem of how long until they realize and quit. This is not game specific, there is always a churn and burn of players in pvp and the longer the game continues the small the population gets and the higher the skill ceiling becomes. Playing pvp early is the best and there will be diminishing returns over the months or years. So the new update would be the perfect time to jump in to pvp but it wont be suprisong when 30% of the pop is lost before the first wipe. Players will get chased out by the pros.

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah for sure the core playerbase will just keep getting stronger and stronger. You're absolutely right though that the first month or so is a fantastic time to jump into PvP and not be almost guaranteed to get completely steamrolled.

    • @josephjohnson5415
      @josephjohnson5415 5 месяцев назад

      @@terribletimmy2 we got to remember player psychology before we question the lack of desire for pvp.
      In most pvp games there is a small percentage of players, 2-5% that are the top players and they tend to band together over time instead of competing, birds of a feather flock together. They're the super pros and some quit because they get bored of winning.
      Then you have the 6-20% who are still doing 80% of the killing, they don't fight the top, they know their place its semi-pro. Egos here are often care free and these folks have the most fun.
      The 21%- 50% are the good enoughs, they win enough to keep playing, egos start getting fragile here, and they purposely look to punch down because they get punched out if they dare look up. They troll the nubs to get their fixes and band together like packs of hyenas.
      The 50% and beyond lose more than they win. Is it times, capacity or will power? It doesn't matter eventually they will lose enough that they quit. Each one lost pushes the mean further up, which is why population is such a problem in pvp, how do you keep the below average skilled players, who are literally the meat and potatoes of pvp diet.

      @terribletimmy2 I guess I'm sort of that niche player. I work as a bartender and work late hours. There aren't many servers that set their times early (definitely no public servers) and even if there were I don't necessarily want to be online for the entire raid window on both nights in order to keep my castle. I really appreciate your commentary on this. I've found I don't like PvP however. I have over 1100 hours in the game, and I still can't get combos right, can't target correctly, etc. I've tried drills, practice, etc. They just don't go the right way (oddly I have good hand-eye coordination in real life, go figure). So I use dodging and area spells to get close, and nerf my bosses and up my spells so I have a fighting chance. I also like gathering and building cool castles more than fighting, especially with other people, as I like being friends with people more than having rivalries and being (in my view) rude. I make up scenarios where I try to do well and consider making vampire communities. I've started up an orphanage for people in the spider caves (nothing above 10% blood), a coven of frost vampire priestesses. etc. So I like to keep my stuff and PvP would just ruin that for me, and I've had to take advantage of another vampire on low HP, etc. In the end, I'm just a big softy. I'll challenge myself in other ways like not hitting peasants and only soldiers/monsters if they are in the way or giving my children vampires the nicest rooms and gardens. Being an undead vampire ain't easy. Yeah I know , weird for a vampire. So I just stay a lonely PvE Vampire.

I just started out at V Rising (not counting 3 hours with my friend on a private server when the game was in the beginning of EA), and I actually noticed how the game is actually intended to be played in online PvP originally (the spawn protection, castle's heart durability, etc. and now also emergent events I haven't known about before this video), but was unsure if I'd like such a competitive experience with a chance of getting gatekeeped, teamed against, or simply griefed while I'm offline. They pick on low lvl players since there is no true endgame pvp content for them that rewards defeating players in their skill level. I think that you have to have two separate mindsets for PVE and PVP.
    PvE functions well as a vampire castle builder or similar rpg-esque game with basebuilding. This can be extremely fun, as with minecraft for example.
    PvP is a new game entirely. Think of it more like an action rpg game, where every wipe is a "new match" so to say. Don't view it as: "i have to build my cast OHSHIT! i got attacked and now my progress is gone!"
    Instead think of it as more of a battle-royale. You, a vampire, has descended upon a land, but knows that other vamps will also be vying for resources. Your goal is not to build your castle, but to survive and outlive the opposition.
    If you are into rp and stuff or like a lore reason, then you could treat them as:
    PvP: before you became the sole survivor of the encroaching vamps.
    PvE: after you survived and came out on top, having outlived the carnage, and now has to build up your domain.

    A totally different experience? No kidding? Well it's more than obvious. PVP is there since around 25 years. If you like to take the risk to have your game experience ruined then it's your taste. All what you said is exactly why people play on PVE servers. I still remember all these a**holes invading me in Elden ring while I'm a Souls veteran not to fight me but just to prevent me from doing anything the game, fleeing away whenever I started to chase them. You like that? That's great. You maybe should think about the fact that we don't have the same taste and please don't try to push people to like the same things as you. Pvp survival is a niche, honestly.
    Most players like to hop on once or twice a week and make progress. Getting on and having lost everything is gonna lead to more rage quits.
    Also, personal MOBA still pvp not my thing. I like fps games and full camera control 3D games. Pvp tho is the "replayability" of force wipe, but only if you always swap it up. PvE has the same "replayability" in difficulty and single weapon on runs.
    Edit: my pov is a D2 casual that plays pve and pvp solo (ie solo when I can and queue with randoms if I have too, or to help new lights do dungeon etc) as a casual I farmed rank to platinum many for the triumph. In D2 I can see telling players to try pvp because you loss nothing and can just go right back to pve with no losses. In a game like vrising having forced wipe, rats and not having the time to play daily, there's quite a few reasons players stick to pve.

    I only disagree with what you said about soul burn. There are veteran players that complain about this spell, so they have “scrub-mentality” as well? I disagree with that. If soul burn just silenced spells it would be fine, but no you cant even auto-attack and they can do whatever they want, it needs a nerf.

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад +1

      I plan on doing a video to go into more detail on Scrub mentality.
      Scrub Mentality is not "bad at the game" or "inexperienced." It's a propensity to blame/refuse to use something that gives a competitive advantage for one reason or another that isn't something like "I'd rather use something else". Like people calling edge-hogging in SSBM "cheap" or refusing to use strong weapons in halo because "it's too easy."
      Or in this case, whining about Soulburn because it's a "crutch."
      Everyone suffers from this (including me), but it shouldn't be a reason for new or learning players (or any player for that matter) to let someone else dictate what competitive advantages they have.
      Does it need a nerf? Sure. But until then, it's in the game. Use it if you want to and don't let the scrub mentality decide for you.

    • @FallenFromGlory
      @FallenFromGlory 5 месяцев назад

       @terribletimmy2 I'll stab you for this (in Minecraft).
      V rising pvp is obviously very skill based; while some abilities are more difficult to use to their full potential than others, it's still a game built on the principle of "if you're good, yeah, you can probably do it." A person with iron can kill someone with Sanguine, if they're good enough. This is old news. Even 1vX in high numbers is technically possible if you're good enough, as there are no "auto hit" attacks like in other games. This, in my opinion, is very healthy for the game, as you can punish people who mindlessly spam with counters and the like.
      Everything being a skill shot is a good thing- even summoning builds can be avoided, but, Soulburn negates all of this. It's a "you're now dead button" in 1vX. Because; it doesn't matter if you "just don't trigger it," because it instantly kills you- in that it prevents use of abilities. Chasing isn't very difficult- so getting into the range of it isn't really an issue, specifically when you outnumber someone.
      Make it a counter or a skillshot.

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад

      Yeah like I said, it needs a nerf. Doesn't mean that you shouldn't use it if you want to.
      I could rage for hours on why I think phantom aegis is worse for the game by far, but there's no point because it's in the game so gotta get used to it and either learn to play it or learn to play against it (or both).

    I think it also will have alot to do with the community Servers, and how they are setup, pvp and raiding wise. there needs to be some balance, specially so that folks dont just get zeroed by way stronger groups, and Raid times are managed and with rules, stuff like that.. so that more folks can have fun with it, apart from the top dogs or folks with the most time to play etc. also, bugs and exploits need to be closely monitored. folks returing to a looted home castle, where their loot is just ""magicaly gone", will make most folks not wanna play

      Virtually all servers (private and officials) don't have the ability to full zero someone btw. Raiding-wise yeah I suppose? But you can also play No-raid.
      Good private servers are OVERWHELMINGLY a better experience overall for people who don't like "no holds barred" server experience of officials. There are TONS of servers with anti-griefing/camping rules, and even servers with zero risk PvP (no durability loss) to just have fun and fight each other.
      Also, castle infiltration isn't a bug or exploit in any fashion. Secure your castle with walls on all sides and there's nothing anyone can do to even get in (depending on the castle plot) let alone get out.

    I feel like im the only one who feels this way but the only part i dislike about the arena pvp is everyone is always weapon swapping between like 9 weapons. I do arena to practice for PvP server bc i love pvp but i feel like the situations will never happen in a PVP server. It will be so so so so late into the wipe until I'm at the point where i will even be taking out 4 weapons all at once let alone 9. So i try to practice with only 1-2 but then everyone is still using 9 and i can still get good practice but i wish there was a mode for like only 2-4 weapons max for real pvp practice.
    P.S this video is amazing and everyone should try pvp, and most importantly if you die its not the end of the world just strap in and start gearing up again losing your gear while only in copper or even iron is nothing and can be recouped in a couple of hours and i find this is where most people quit and kill servers.

      There's nothing wrong with starting with 2 weapons, and honestly in the beginning of 1.0, you'll probably do just fine with them if you have a lot of experience.
      I will say though, if you can manage 4, the difference is HUGE with not a ton of practice. My buddy in this video went from 1 weapon to 4 semi-comfortably in 2 hours. The amount of payoff you get from that small amount of investment is huge, and if you're already comfortable with 2 weapons, you can for sure handle 4 very quickly.

    In the actual game we won't have these Jewels so I'm curious do u have any thoughts over a good skill loadout that that doesn't use Jewels? The only skill I've read that ccs without Jewels is the ice lance skillshot and the discharge counter (but I heard discharge is getting changed because that shits annoying with mace e)

    • @terribletimmy2

      Vid coming on this soon, but I would highly recommend at the very least running 1 defensive spell at ALL time, in PvP and PvE. There are a couple bosses that are easier with 2 offensive spells, but if you're rolling in PvP, you NEED to be prepared for PvP at all times, and a Defensive spell will do that.
      Some of the best options are Bloodrite, Chaos Barrier, Frost Barrier, Phantom Aegis (better in PvP), Mist Trance, Discharge, and Lightning curtain. Bloodrage and Powersurge are also super insane, particularly with the right jewels.
      When first starting, I would suggest trying out Bloodrite + a damage spell and see how that feels. It's an EXTREMELY flexible spell/setup that I have run since the game launched and cleared someone the hardest PvE challenges with it.

    • @mas0ny149
      @mas0ny149 5 месяцев назад

      @@terribletimmy2 interesting, may I ask why bloodrite? Is it just cause the sustain it gives?
      I think for pvp bloodrite is on the lower side for defensives right? Because it doesn't have any hard cc built into the skill for combos.
      So u have any recommendations for a damage skill? I'm thinking a counter (ice block) and blood fountain for a strong high sustain pvp build but ice lance also looks good for a ranged skill

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад

      So the reason bloodrite is so powerful is it tends to be an direct 1 for 1 exchange MINIMUM for skills the enemy uses AND has the possibility of damage if they're close enough AND gives you invuln for a short while to reposition/close the gap a bit if need be.
      But where it really shines is when you have the right jewel on it.
      my personal favorite combination is:
      - Go invisible while immaterial (invuln): This is true invisibility and won't be broken when using an ability. This makes it hard for the enemy to react to what you're going to do, let alone follow where you're going.
      - throw daggers at enemies, dealing damage healing you and apply leech: This makes it easier to almost guarantee a punish to people at mid-long range and lets you heal up a bit as well
      - Next primary attack does bonus damage: This lets you counter someone, and then instantly "nuke" them with a GS or another powerful hit primary attack, and it can crit. I've had 70 damage primaries with this when I used a dash to empower my weapon even more and it crit.
      - and finally, either "increase immaterial duration" or "Increase damage"
      Overall, the spell is very good with nothing on it, but when it has the right jewel, it becomes absolutely crazy good.

As for your comment about there being nothing you can do in pve servers for resources, there's always servant quests, especially if the rewards are maxed in settings which probably should be the case in any pve server to reduce resource scarcity. All your points for trying pvp were the exact reasons I do not play it lol

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад +1

      The fact that you have to host a custom server to get PvE settings that are semi reasonable is one of my biggest complaints for PvE personally. On top of this, there is nothing stopping someone from walking up to the node you are hitting and hitting it at the same time just because they don't care about you, or even standing in a boss area and scaling the boss without participation. You can literally steal people's soul shards in PvE after they finally downed the boss and there's nothing you can do about it.
      There's a lot more to PvP than simple competition for resources etc, and there's simply nothing like a PvP fresh wipe.
      Play how you'd like to though

    I know you were able to play a bit of the release beforehand? Is there any spells that you recommend using (that you are able to say)? Running chaos volley and blood counter/ward of the damned most of the game definitely got old IMO but a lot of spells didn't seem to really be strong until you were able to get good gems on them, and I know they streamlined spell progression that allows you to get them somewhat earlier supposedly. I ended up running void and discharge with axe incap most of the time but I'm not sure if that's viable anymore. Idk how it will be with the release but using like 1-3 weapons until super late game seemed to be the most logical due to the resources required to craft additional weapons.

    The problem with PvP is that survival games arent good pvp games. Every PvP interaction ends up with a winner or a loser. Except in these games losing sets you back which makes it easier to lose again. All of the best PvP games on the market today always place you on an even footing when you start a new match.
    If I go to the iron mine and get killed I lose my copper weapon and my armor, so now I have to go back to the previous zone to regear. Or spend loads of time making multiple sets. It extends playtime but not in a good way. Before you say just join a server that has specialized settings/etc, if I keep doing that I'll just end up back in PvE anyways. PvP in these games always boils down to a game of monopoly.

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад

      So what you're describing is Merciless PvP. No one plays merciless in this game anymore these days for the reasons you're describing. Most servers you lose a total of ~12% of your gears durability (in the form of materials) and the other items in your inventory.
      If you get killed over and over and over, then yes you're items can break, but in that instance, you can just repair them. Or, you can just go back to base after the first death and repair then if you'd like.
      There's also the inverse of what you're describing. Fight hard against other players, kill THOSE players and now you have a giant chunk of mats to either massively boost your progression, or save for later when you get killed so you can just immediately repair with no issues.
      It's a tug of war, and nowhere near as bad as you are imagining.
      The only change in 1.0 is that now the Shards are necklaces you wear, and they WILL drop on death in PvP (so just hold onto your other necklace and you're good to go).

    ur visual, showing u useing "tricks", to get into folks Castles/bases, and steal their stuff, might not be the best way to encourage new folks to try out pvp servers! (specially not straight away). I know thats what makes me not wanna jump into pvp servers right away.. knowing that are prolly multiple "tricks or exploits", that will give others an unintended or unexpected advantage over me. i like how the Castle and Raiding system is, but worried that i will get "offlined" cuz someone knows a good trick, that i dont know of.. And V Risisng does actually seem to have managed that all very well, without being a game like Rust f.e. but bugs and exploits can ruin alotta fun (maybe not for the one doing em) i hope V Rising has a halfway "Fair" PvP and Raiding scene, and they patch or solve bugs n exploits quick. (And yes, i know jumping up over cliffs to get in Castles is or was also Possible with Toadform etc, but at least u had to earn that first, and its known and its mobilty can be managed. but useing the jump off the Horse? i bet u going around stealing from all those bases made a bunch of them quit frustrated, with them not even understanding what happened)

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад

      Well you could take this info and immediately realize "huh, that's how they could steal my stuff" and then add an additional wall to either side and problem solved.
      None of these are exploits. Horse jumping is an intentional choice by the devs. Putting a single wall/door to "defend" a base is not enough, and it makes sense that it isn't.
      No one is going to know everything about this game the first time they play it, especially not on PvP servers. It is fun and rewarding to learn and get better and then experience a side of the game that simply isn't there for PvE.

Nothing wrong with crafting your own playstyle, (even if you're leaving advantages on the table) if that's what you want to do.
      What I'm saying is if you are whining about someone ELSE using something that gives them a competitive advantage, then you are suffering from scrub mentality.
      If I rage at someone because they're using Aegis Bloodrage or double counter or w.e, regardless of if it's legitimately OP or if I think it's "cheap", then I am a scrub and need to gitgud...unless I have no interest in winning
      That is the scrub mentality.
      And there are a ton of people suffering from this heavily in this game.
      And my point is, don't let them decide for you what abilities you're allowed to use.

    Because of this I'm thinking of starting to learn the game on a no raid pvp. I like torturing myself lol.

    Yeahhh..nah😅 if I get killed and lose resources or have them stolen, I'll just sit the game down. Don't have a lot of time in the week to play, and griefing is just the worst imo.
    Though I think a combat arena to face other players in PVE would be fun

    PvP survival games require you to no life play to defend your work. It’s just not a fun experience being off lined… especially when outnumbered and out geared.
    YOU ARE at the mercy of other players.
    Played enough with Ark and Conan exiles.

      This is not true for this game. There are raid windows outside of which your castle is safe

    iF i remember this game right I tried loads of servers and could not find any were to build a castle all spots were taken .Sure I had to rent a private server to make any progress

    • @terribletimmy2
      @terribletimmy2  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it can be rough on the populated ones.
      When choosing a server, check the righthand side of the list to see how much "space" is available for your castle. if it's Moderate or lower, you should be good to go.

    Low teir shit makes games fun. "Scrub mentality" is how people beat better players in tournaments lol.

      I agree it makes games fun. Some of my favorite spells/setups in this game are meh to bad tier.
      What I'm saying is that complaining about people using meta builds and calling some spells a crutch and feeling that the only measure of TRUE skill is using low tier or some arbitrary measurement of "fair" spells is a scrub mentality.
      The idea that some good spells are unfair while other top tier insanely powerful spells are fair (for example, soulburn vs bloodrage) and 1 is a crutch or w.e because people don't like playing against it while the other isn't (because they like the spell) is a bad argument, and should be taken into account for people trying to get better and playing to win.

    PvP in this game in my opinion is pure griefing. its best when you get a buddy and make someones life misery. Its fun while your griefing and sux when you are being griefed. Unless you enjoy griefing style of PvP, going PvE coop or solo would be my advice.

    • @terribletimmy2

      Eh I disagree. There can be bad experiences, but a lot of it comes down to your own gameplay, especially on a freshwipe

      @@terribletimmy2 if a person s a "leet gamer" he or she probably can 1v2 or get ahead and win via knowledge of the game and skill, but for an average player the correct strat is to team up with some one and make someone's life a misery until they quit and go to the next target. this happens in all games where 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 is not enforced. There are a lot of people who enjoy this bullying strat and a lot of skilled players who enjoy winning against this.
