This is such a good song. I mean, I was a 20yr old metalhead from the nordics, and still had this as my ringtone for years. My long haired friend gave me shit for it but didn't care. 😅
Lifelong metalhead here, huge fan of death metal, black metal, grindcore, heavy thrash, but there's something about this kind of country music that gets the heart going a different way then metal does. Metal makes me want to run a mile and punch a brick wall, while this makes me want to drive 120 mph down a dirt road with the bois
Reminds me of when I used to drive from Milwaukee to Illinois at night. I was a lone 1991 Toyota Tercel sharing the road with 15 big rigs. I felt like ol Smokey
I just happened to watch two movies this week for the first time that had Jerry Reed in both of them. I didn't know he was in either one till I watched them. Concrete Cowboys and The Survivors. The name sounded familiar so I looked him up, I'll be on the look out for his albums now. I know I've seen some of them out looking places before, but I wasn't sure who he was until now.

The best part of the soundtrack is the continuity in the movie. When Bandit and Snowman are heading down to Texarkana, TX, they're going westbound, which is why you hear "Westbound and Down" near the beginning of the movie. But later on when they find the truck convoy, they are going back to the Fairgrounds in Atlanta, GA, meaning they're going eastbound, so "Eastbound and Down" is playing. There's both an eastbound and westbound version of the song, because it tells us the direction they are travelling across the US at that time, "Westbound and Down" for heading to pick up the 400 cases of Coors Beer, and "Eastbound and Down" for when they are heading back to Atlanta to deliver the goods. Excellent continuity in the soundtrack.
From the FIRST NOTE of this song, Smokey and the Bandit was a hit movie for me. Yeah, it was the song that drew me in. Maybe if I live long enough to become senile I'll forget the lyrics to it. But I'm 54 years old, sooo.................not just yet.

Fun Fact:Coors was never illegal East of the Mississippi River. They don't use preservatives in their beer & didn't have any breweries affiliated with the Coors corporation until the early 80s which is why they didn't sell the beer too far east. I was 15 or so when Coors became available in Tennessee so my Dad didn't have to buy it when we visited family in Oklahoma.

Being a over the road trucker I played this at least once every time coming up from Miami to NY its classic tune wish I grew up in this era
What part of NY? I live in NY as well in Buffalo, great classic, wish I was around for this. Sadly I'm only 21...
I have been driving for almost 40 years things were a lot different then I grew up in those days
Chris Toy same here
Chris Toy Ha! You weren’t going East or west.
Samantha Wankasky Every kid in of the 70’s and 80’s loved the movie and this tune. You missed a great time in America.
A friend of mine died last week. May he stomp the pedal while the song is playing on his way to heaven. Rest in peace brother. He was trucking from the age of 18, we lost him at the young age of 22. I miss him. We weren't that close but he was a real man
😢
Dukes of hazard, Smokey and the bandit, General Lee!! Raised right!❤️
This is a unique song being it was written specifically for a movie yet it became an all around hit. Kudos to the late Jerry.....a true " Good ol boy"!
There is Ride of the Valkyires.
This is Ride of the Truckers.
"Hee haw to ho ya!" Opera fans and country fans will get this. Since I'm the only one who is both, I get it.
NAH either CONVOY OR WEST BOUND AND DOWN ARE TRUCKER ONE.

I am not a country music fan but this song is legendary - love it! (The solo is blazing)
Totally agree. I'm not a country music fan, either -- but I love this song! Just goes to show how good it is. And as you said, the guitar solo is outta sight. 🎸👍
Find Jerry Reed’s song The Claw.
you don't have to love country music to know what is good faring love .
I'm Black and listen to rap music...some songs are universal
Same! But this song randomly pops in my head when I’m driving my dad’s old 85 gmc s15 lol. That truck just makes me wanna jam this song so I had to search it and find out who sang it. This definitely a timeless classic!
My son is addicted to this song! He wasn't even born till 2011!
Real Zman stuff! Phenom!
You're doing it right
wikid nice its something cool for a change
I watch all three movies everyday XD
My dad showed me Smokey and the bandit and I love this song and I was born in 2008 this is a great song
One of the best Country songs EVER!
I will never forget. Captain Ellis played this song over the 1-MC, leaving Subic Bay in 1990. Headed home for Christmas in the States. Awsome choice, Skipper!
Truckers love song 😅 much appreciation to all the truckers out there ❤️❤️
WE GOIN 90 ON THE SHOULDER WITH THIS ONE 💯💯🔥🔥

Jerry was one of the greatest guitar legends that ever was.
Wish the music world (outside of country) would have given him the credit he truly deserved.
That man was born to play. God bless ya Jerry and thank you!
Jerry. Roy Clark. Glen Campbell. Rock guitarists get SO much love, but these guys were ridiculously talented.

This is such a good song. I mean, I was a 20yr old metalhead from the nordics, and still had this as my ringtone for years. My long haired friend gave me shit for it but didn't care. 😅
As an Australian who thinks most American music (/tv and movies) are fckn corny, I can relate mate. 👍
Excellent Bango playing!
You can tell when Jerry Reed is on the instruments. No doubt about it.
I miss this music!
Reminds me of when I used to drive from Milwaukee to Illinois at night. I was a lone 1991 Toyota Tercel sharing the road with 15 big rigs. I felt like ol Smokey
God bless the eastbound and down drivers who delivered the TP during the pandemic.
I used to watch "Smokey & the Bandit" with my dad. We both loved it. One of those great dad/daughter memories. Miss you Dad.

Nastiest guitar solo in all of country music
That's a banjo, but it does rip
You must mean the solo between 0.56 -1.42 and that was a pretty darned good guitar interlude.
East bound and down, loaded up and truckin'
A-we gonna do what they say can't be done
We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there
I'm east bound, just watch ol' "Bandit" run
Keep your foot hard on the pedal
Son, never mind them brakes
Let it all hang out 'cause we got a run to make
The boys are thirsty in Atlanta
And there's beer in Texarkana
And we'll bring it back no matter what it takes

He's hot on your trail
And he aint gonna rest 'til you're in jail
So you got to dodge 'im and you got to duck 'im
You got to keep that diesel truckin'

This song always puts a smile on my face. 🙂
Loved these movies when they came out in the 70's, I was in love with Burt Reynolds!
the greatest trucking semi song of all time y all never gits old.........ever

The Ford comercial?
The movie brought me here
The first time I saw that TA pull out of bandit 2, my heart stopped. 😲😍
Takes me back to my child hood , good old days long past , seems like just a long lost memory in these dark days
Still listening to 2024 at Fast Eddies!!!😊
From the FIRST NOTE of this song, Smokey and the Bandit was a hit movie for me. Yeah, it was the song that drew me in. Maybe if I live long enough to become senile I'll forget the lyrics to it. But I'm 54 years old, sooo.................not just yet.
CLASSIC! love smokey and the bandit - the Pontiac Firebird is one of gods greatest creations! WOW
Infotainmentstation2487. I agree about the movie and I watch it every time it's on. The car, though, is another thing. My 18-year-old son came sliding in the driveway sideways to show me his new car. I just about had a stroke!! 😂😂😂😂 He had watched that d*mned movie too many times and was practicing all the moves. 😂😂😂😂😂 I did have a good laugh, though, after he left.

Now I want to bootleg Coors to Atlanta.
