1796 Home FILLED with History, and hints of THE GOAT CASTLE

- Located at one of the most historically significant intersections in the Natchez area during Spain’s occupation of Natchez from 1783-1798 sets this charming home, known today as Holly Hedges.
Although its earliest history dates to 1796 when a structure was built by Mr. John Scott, who received a Spanish grant on what was known as Block 1; it is believed Holly Hedges took its current form by 1805 when his widow, Susanna petitioned for a deed to the lot where the home she was building (or remodeling)sits today.
Of great significance in the chain of ownership of Holly Hedges is the tenure of the John T. McMurran family who lived here until their massive suburban estates Melrose was completed in 1848. Melrose is today the crown jewel of The Natchez National Historical Park.
Still later, Holly Hedges became the Natchez home of celebrated Dallas interior designer Earl Hart Miller and his wife Zan, who in 1948 completely restored the Federal era home and added the interlaced Federal style dormers and celebrated parterre garden to the original home giving it added visual appeal and gave the home the name Holly Hedges.
Earl Hart Miller was also credited with the interior design of the Pilgrimage Garden Club headquarters at Stanton Hall as well as numerous other Natchez landmark homes and commercial buildings.
Today, Holly Hedges is the Natchez residence of Mr. and Mrs. Wes Pack (Tammy) of Fredericksburg, Texas, and together they have completely restored Holly Hedges to a most comfortable family home for generations to come.

She is quite charming and I love the pre-view tour she gave here of this prized historic home. The Zuber wallpaper is exquisite. I first learned of Goat Castle in William Stadiums “ Secrets of Great Southern Families”. What a treasure for that bed to survive. What a splendid tour!
Thanks so much! The bed is a treasure and we are so lucky it was purchased by a local doctor who had it restored in the best, most authentic way. It took eight months but it's a beauty now!

Love this one story home. It's delicious and the colors are true. My lovely Mother loved a paint color called Candlewick. Very creamy. So, I wouldn't change anything. Appreciate the separated stairs on the front terrace. Thank you for showing us your sweet cream puff.

Very nice house. I like the design touches on the bathroom at 14:31. The wallpaper and some of the fixtures look like they are from a home circa the 1920's. I must say the best part of the history of the house (and the one that got me hooked from the beginning) is that there is "no bull fighting in the side yard" written into the original deed. 🤣

P.S. I don't follow College football, so I was unaware of the Jackson State University Marching Band before I saw them perform at the Tournament of Roses Parade here in (Pasadena) California on the 1st. Oh my goodness! The Sonic Boom of the South! They are incredible, and the crowds in the bleachers along the parade route jumped to their feet. These are the kind of events that bring people together, as you do with your channel, Laine and Kevin. I wanted to give a shout out to your fellow Mississippians. Cheers...and Happy New Year!

I won’t lie- I had the same thought. It’s actually a feathered ornament or sash. But, yeah….
Ha! That has been brought up before! Actually it is a scene that appears to be native Americans doing some sort of tribal dance in costume. Now, mind you the wooden blocks that make up this scenewere carved in France in 1834 based on THEIR vision of what America was like.
I had that same thought ngl 😂 Had pause the video to figure out what was happening 😆
