I don't think the average fan really understands what a gifted guitarist he was.

Yes, this was Prince's 10th encore that night. At his concerts, he would give you more than what you paid for. He was famous for always saying "you all paid to see me, i can't give you just an hour. I got hits for days. I can go all night!" and his encore's would end up being an hour or 2. Him loving music is an understatement, Prince was addicted to it, he was music in the flesh. His catalog speaks on that very point, because he was the Multi-Genre God. I have Spotify playlists, some of them are "Metal" "Classical" "R&B" "POP" "JAZZ" "Hip Hop" "Punk rock" "blues" etc & the one thing that makes Prince stand out from EVERY other artist, is that, there are Prince song's that can be placed in each genre of those playlists. Such a rare legend.

Prince is our generation’s Motzart. His genius is missed. Half the hits of the 1980’s and 90’s were written by him. A reporter once asked Eddie VanHalen (an amazing top guitarist) what it felt like to be the greatest guitarist alive. He replied “I don’t know ask Prince!” My X generation was fortunate to see him. His music will last forever 😢

This was the 3rd out of 4 encores that night. Play That Funky Music was originally sung by a white band called Wild Cherry. The original is on RUclips. His drummers name was John Blackwell. He passed away from a brain tumor. May he rest in peace. Ida is on BASS. She's a beast. That's Renato Neto on keys. When he wasn't playing with Prince he had his own band. I really enjoyed your reaction. You had a ball lol

That last guitar Prince had looked like a Klingon weapon that Commander Worf from Star Trek would use. Yes, a Prince concert was an event. I was fortunate enough to see 2 of his concerts. One he performed after the Purple Rain movie, and a few years latter his Sign of the Times concert.

Ranks up there with his Super Bowl performance and While My Guitar Gently Weeps performance with Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne at 2004 Rock n Roll HOF Induction.... The three songs here were covers Play That Funky Music by Wild Cherry and Hollywood Swingin' by Kool and The Gang both from mid 70s and Fantastic Voyage by Lakeside from 1980. During Hollywood Swingin' they changed it to Inglewood Swingin' as this was a concert performance from The Forum located in Inglewood CA a suburb of of Los Angeles ❤

No all 3 of these songs are originally from other artists. "Play That Funky Music" was originally recorded by a white band name Wild Cherry. The second song "Hollywoid Swinging" was originally recorded by Kool and The Gang. The last song Fantastic Voyage was originally recorded by a group called Lakeside. But Prince could make any song he's sings sounds like an original because he puts his own spin on it. That's one of the reasons he's a genius.

This is a cover of a classic funk track by the band: Wild Cherry.
(Their sole hit and the only reason most people know them, at all.
The band was out of the Pittsburgh area.)
...Prince could and did play anything & everything.
(but no: this is not a song written by him.
-Don't worry, WHILE he was playing this song, he just composed, about, 100 new ones!😋🤪-)
...at around 5:20-something, he transitions into a jam groove ...and picks-up a bit from Kool & The Gang's "Hollywood Swinging"
    ...and some other stuff after
(including: Lakeside's "Fantastic Voyage" -which Coolio sampled or covered in the late '90s...)
    Prince was a master.

Prince is a mega catalogue and then when you add all the live experiments it’s gargantuan pool to draw from.
Wild cherry is a band from the 70’s wrote and performed the song you know.
For reason, Prince wants to do it.
Maybe to mug and enjoy it.
He embodied everything excellent so he’s allowed

Find the Black Album (bootleg unreleased secret album)
