He's pretty much the only boss that sincerely apologizes for trying to kill you, he thought you were one of those infected bugs and was trying to make sure it didn't get into his little home.

When I Beat the dung defender I was sad because he was the only character that was somehow happy in Hallownest

for a fight against a dung beetle, this was somehow one of the best fights in the game for me. probably a combination of the epic theme, the surprisingly upbeat feel of it compared to the rest of the area, and the fact that i was at about 1/3 health at the time i fought him.
