Howdy, if you have any questions about the Nano Talon ask below. If you'd like iNav config settings, they are in the video description above and remember you can post pictures etc... in the FaceBook Group here facebook.com/groups/ragthenutsoff/ Matt
Thanks Matt! This is exactly what direction I'm going with mine. Been collecting the plane and all the parts to go in it. I haven't used iNav yet and your series on it has answered a lot of my questions. Have a friend with a 3D Printer that has printed all the same parts, so when I came across the video, I'm getting more exited. Thanks again for all the information you've put out there!
Matt, it's hard to explain how much I enjoy your videos. Especially since I can put them on my 55 inch TV! She was flying really smooth today with the INAV system. I hope you put more videos of flying through the trees and over the hedges! Are you planning to have a coffee chat tonight? I have missed the last two weeks. If you are going to have a chat tonight I will set my loud alarm, LOL! Again thanks for the wonderful videos and entertainment. Cheers from TEXAS!!!
I think i found the best way to get into fpv planes. This conversion you made of this little model has absolutly everything and more that I was looking from my first ever rc plane. And the way it was flying at the end of the video was just sublime ! so smoth ! I loved this video. Thanks for posting, you got a new subscriber :)
Hi Matt, just wanted to say thanks so much for all your work on the inav set up videos. Because of you I went and got myself a nano talon, had been debating it for ages and what you've done with it sold me on it. Guna fly it vanilla for a while and then pop inav in it eventually. Thanks again for all your work
Hi Matt, Unfortunately I've only two thumbs, But I would say big thumbs up for this one. You really thought this through, such less space and everything fits just nicely. You can really class this project as HAPPY DAYS !! Cheers, Jelle Kaptein
Matt you have inspired me to get one and to use inav.. I'm mostly fly mini quads but watching your videos on the Talon & inav.. Just fantastic. Not sure how to setup a V tail but am sure there are videos on RUclips..
Great video. Thanks for going through the effort to show what you have done. I am now going to buy one and build it as you have. It looks like a lot of fun and very easy to transport.
Howdy Mike, I'm glad you found the series helpful. I'm well happy with mine and crucially if I stuffed it, I'd buy another. There will be 3 of them out flying this weekend, so look out for some extra NT footage shortly :) Matt
Bought the version with three servoes. It is worth checking the fuz aileron torque drivers as mine bind. Teflon seems to fix. Also glue the spar box components as I ripped the fuz end plate off in a minor crash.
+iforce2d Morning Chris, I've really enjoyed mine and I bought a spare too. It's not fast, it's not bonkers, but what it is... is enjoyable for 30 mins chilling and enjoying the view. It would definitely appreciate a 4S1P li-on pack for extended flight times though. Matt
Great video, love how smooth the footage is at the end, I am really tempted to get this plane, I was going to go for the mini but reckon I will be getting the nano instead, thanks for another great and in-depth review.
This looks like a pretty sweet setup. Coming from a quad background, I've been enamored with the efficiency and flight time of fixed wing for a while. Planes are somewhat less forgiving than quads - You have to nail the launch, and you can't hover! Seeing your setup, it looks like a very portable and affordable option, and I'd love to clone your setup in the future. Thanks for taking the time to make this video and share your settings.
Hi mat can you do a diagram of the flight controller what’s connected were you should of done a Video of the build I’ve just got a nano talon and looking at putting inav in it.thanks.
Hi Matt you may have scoffed at my idea of running my fpv of a second battery....not as ridiculous as it sounds// with a runcam swift in the nose and 1500 3s pushed back as far as possible the talon was still nose heavy... with a 2s 800 in the underbay it is now cg perfect and still flies as well even with the added battery weight
Thanks for the awesome video. Didn't think I would go through the 19 mins but ended up interested in everything you said! I'm wanting to get into fixed wings for aerial photography but have zero experience. I'm thinking I could get one of these to learn about them and get ready for costlier/larger planes. Do you think the Nano Talon would be good for this?
Great video Matt, thank you very much. I've my model almost ready for maiden with the iNav conversion. Also followed your iNav series. I am powering the servos with the UBEC of the ESC (only signal and ground wires connected to fc). Is this ok? Thanks!
Hi Matt....Can you please show us how / where you plugged in your Aileron servo and the other two servos driving the mixed Vee Tail..?....How nice it would be to see a "Mini Talon" preset inside iNAV?
Hi Matt, Thanks for sharing a lot of information about INAV. Besides, I am wondering that is there any INAV preset can build a Tailsitter plane just like E-flight X-vert? Which is able to take off and landing vertically ?
ok Matt at 62 and new to fpv but not flying as i have bixler and timber. i was confused by the wiring nor much good at electrics but i can knock a tune out on the bagpipes...try that for a laugh...bought the talon after seeing your reviews and decided to try fpv first before next attempting inav..anyway just read somewhere that i should strip the heatshrink from the esc and connect there...is that right?....I am sure that i am not the only one new to this and it would have been useful as you rave about the talon to have had a whole series on setting up for us beginners with fpv and inav...Cheers
Ive watched most of your setup videos. Theyre great. One thing you mentioned but didnt go over is how you are using a BEC with the boards bec? I have the same setup but im not sure which power regulator to snip on the f4 board.
Matthew Ogborne thank you matt...your videos always helped me building my inav planes...now im hooked with the nano talon because of you...great...haha
Hi Matt, my nano talon is on the way, I just have 1 question: Aren’t there too few pwm outputs on the Omnibus f4? If 1/2 are for throttle, there are only 2 left, but there are 3 servos
Hi Matt! Thanks for your informative videos! I'm modifying my Nano Talon to tighten up the ailerons by adding one servo in each wing. Then I will have 4 servos insted of 3. Is it possible to configure iNav 1.9.3 such that all 4 servos are controlled effichiently? I'm intending to install the Furious F35 as FC. If so - how should the iNav setup be like, compared to the 3 servo setup? Thanks and best regards, Torgeir
Another great video, thanks! How did you power the servos from the ESC ? For the NT I guess you don't need the PMW6 as you have only one servo for the AIL. So I connected it as you explained in your Omnibus V2 pro video, use the NT mix, but PMW5 doesn't work. Is that because I use inav 1.8.1 while you are using 1.7.3?
Hi Mike, yes & no. Yes if you have a compass/magnetometer onboard and enabled. However a compass is not required for iNav. As for a Nano Talon being a good beginners model, definitely not. There are better models out there, like the AXN (look this up on my channel) which would be way better and cheaper, hope that helps Mike, Matt
PopWing, esp if you're in the States, or a TechSumo. Stick with something that is EPP foam and CF rods. That combination is pretty much unbreakable. If you already know how to fly this would be a decent model. It seems about 2X too expensive for what it is. You can get a lot of plane for the same price elsewhere.
Matt, I have tried to discern how you fed the antennas through the foam on top. Since that area is all black, it does not show up well in the video. I see no obvious way to do it with out cutting a hole in the foam big enough to pass through one leg of the antenna at a time. Then do you glue or velcro the mount over that hole or what??? Thanks.
Mat can you do a video of what things you have plugged in were on the talon you have done this for a fixed wing on the omnibus f4 v2 but not on the nano v tail
Hi MattDid you have rssi connected to the L9R? Did not see any extra cables when you removed the receiver. How do you connect it up?Always watching your videos- thanks so much for your efforts in sharing
Thats correct grahame, you have to attach the RSSI out to the RSSI pad on the F4 FC board, see this video for the setup ruclips.net/video/LJLeuoeMy2I/видео.html
Hi, I see you have aligned the diversity antenna north/south rather than east/west. Is this less/more effective? It makes more sense aerodynamically but I thought the intention was to have one antenna closer to the vertical in the roll plain. Just asking, if there's no difference I'll change mine to north/south orientation. Cheers.
Good job Matt ... After seeing your videos, I buy a Nano Talon and discovers Inav. and since I spend my time on your videos ... Can you tell me if I can use your Dump directly, with the new version 1.7.2 of Inav? thank you
Howdy, the CLI dump will be close, however the SSMIX needs to be changed as they changed the format for it. If you get stuck see their live chat/help here inavflight.slack.com/messages
Hi Matt, Is it possible to ignore the V-Tail and just use Aileron mix like a yank and bank? I have an extra eagle tree vector lying around and I'm trying to decide what settings to use etc. Any tips would be great. Thank you for your thorough and amazing content!
Howdy Charles, ther vector supports V-tail models as I use them in my Mini Talon and X-UAV Clouds. As for whether you want to use rudder or not, thats up to you whether you include it in your transmitter as a mix if not using a vector in the model. Hope that helps Charles, Matt
Hi Matt - this is a potentially dumb q that probably should go to another nano talon video - I would have like to have seen how you connected the FPV system to power. I am going to use the stock stabilizer chip - do you have a video that shows this? Also on the right side of the stabilizer diagram there is a + and - would that be a source I could use to power a 5V camera? That may solve the power for the camera but I wish I had more detail how others (you) supply power to the FPV transmitter. Thanks - Tom
Howdy Tom, the FPV system is separate and you connect up your receiver as per the markings on the stabilizer, it's dead straight forwards & you can go only wrong by connecting the + & - the wrong way around. The stabilizer/mode one needs to go to a 3 way switch on your tx. Hope that helps Tom! Matt
Hello Matt, I managed to get my s800 flying with the f4 v2 board with the help of your inav series, thanks for all your help! Now I have just received my nano talon in the post. So my slim understanding of inav is telling me if I copy your 'full settings' you have uploaded on the link in my CLI then I can have all the settings you've got and maybe tweak a few to suit my preferences? And that'll do the custom mixes for the V tail? Finally I'm a tad confused as to which rear servo is pw4 or pw5? Is there a way to tell? Or is it a case of plug them in till it moves in the correct way? Thanks again for your videos and help! Cheers Joe
Hi Matt I like your video and I want to build inav on my Nano Talon. But the gps you recommend is under restocking on banggood. Can you recommend another gps (on banggood) ? Many thanks, Henning.
Darn... lost my post... great review but have you checked the amp draw using an accurate watt meter? A review on BG says on 3S it draws 10.3A on full throttle and "around" 14A on 4S. But your 28 minute time seems to support your OSD reading.
Hi John, the review on BG is me. You are aware there is a difference between the current drawn when the model is in the sky compared to that on the desk/ground? Also I didn't hit the sticks hard during the flight, which would cause a spike in current either. Hope that makes sense, Matt
Yes of course... the term "10.3A on "full knacker" and around 14A on 4S" threw me off and thought it was in the air... cool. That's amazing performance and glad to see fixed wing FPV following quads and getting smaller. Where I fly I can stay up for an hour with that setup in the lift we have. But you know what Mat... look around because there are some anti-FPV lobbyists damaging the hobby. Anyone that posts or supports super high altitude FPV flights in general aviation space putting full scale aircraft at risk and supports damaging the RC hobby with a smile on their face is either a fool or a paid lobbyist and unfortunately I know from first hand experience how they deceive people to get a pay check. I wouldn't really say things in America have changed that much, but rather thanks to technology the mind bending has been exposed. One thing you can count on is some people do not like FPV aircraft at all and they are throwing money at trying to stop it while playing "friendly".
Howdy John, yea there is always a plank trying to do something silly. Hence why I do my best to keep things safe & to have a laugh at the same time. Matt
Hello Matt, like many others, you inspired me to buy NT as well :-) And I wonder if you just connect rudder servo to PWM5 pin. I found out that it is possible use PWM2 for servo using experimental iNAV FW.
Would you please consider a video on how to connecting the servos, specifically PWM outputs 5 and 6. Can the channels be remapped to use PWM 2 for servo output?
I I love the videos good work anyhow I have the zohd dart which I have inav setup in my question is it does not have enough control or is not responsive enough when flying is there a way to increase roll and Pitch responsiveness to make it more Snappy while flying as I did not have enough control to pull up from a dive in horizon mode thank you
Howdy Bill, ooo you'll like the S800, it's well tough! As for which motor, I put a DYS SE2205 2300Kv motor on mine and it was "fast". Anything around that size will be OK. Hope that helps, Matt
Thank you for the reply, but I know you know, because I see in you flight test that rssi is working on you osd, so my question is how you get that rssi that is working on you osd, what cable from the rx to you f4 v2 flight controler is solder, . thanks. and happy fliying.
Founded it, thanks so much the x4r is inverted signal so you need to do a mod and solder en the back of one of the chips to get un inverted signal and then solder to the pad and then calibrate the rssi signal with the osd and radio or inav software, the x8r does have a un inverted rssi out so the only thing in the case is just to do calibration, thanks so much for the info. Have a fantastic day.
Hi, are you really sure you want to fly for 30 minutes when you're a beginner? Pretty sure it would be irresponsible of me to add anything to help you tbh fella, Matt
Hi. Great video. I guess i will watch it few times more when my talon and FC arrives :). So i understand there is no PDB needed when using f4 pro v2 or v3 ?
Howdy Mike, yep I'd put it in the Mini Drak if I had too, however the Vector that's in there is working so well, I'm not likely ever to want to take it out :) Matt
Hi Matt. Did you remove any diodes on the board before powering the servos from the Esc (as suggested in some forums) or has it worked out OK to just take the ESC and plug it into the PWM slot to power them?
Morning, yep it's feasible, but it would have to be light as you'll compromise the amount of battery you'll be able to carry with extra weight in the nose, Matt
Hi Matt, I know you have 2 nano talons with your own fpv set up. What are your thoughts on the pnp fpv ready model that banggood have available? Think it comes out at about £158.00. Nice set up you have on yours as well.
Howdy Terry, I'd definitely not suggest a PNP FPV kit as the parts are always done on a budget. I'd 100% suggest buying the FPV parts separately, such as the TX526 vTx for $12.59 and a Mini Run Cam Swift for $34.99, which I believe comes out cheaper than the FPV model kit! Hope that helps Terry, Matt
Is there not enough room under battery bay lid when loaded to fit the VTX & poke the antenna out through front duct??? More I see this thing the more I like it! :D
Howdy Lee, you could do that. But remember on more than 25mW these little vTx's get VERY hot, thus I decided to put mine on the top of the lid, gained more ventilation and an extra inch or two separation from the receiver antennas. And did you spot how smooth she now files when it's not windy as f***? Matt
I HAVE noticed smooth flight- possibly deserving of the prefix; Silky! ;) Coldn't, & still can't quite, see all the benefits of V-Tail- and still liking wings.....buuuuuut....... Got me thinking my first foamy might be one of these WW2 look-a-like drop-bombs rather than a Vampire.... Advantage of the Vampire- I can enjoy looking at it before before I get the knackers to fly it. While the Nano Talon, as sweat as it appears to fly & be a great package for the price, it still looks like something dropped from under the wing of a WW2 Catalina hunting subs in the Pacific! :v Then again, I do have PDF plans for a 57" foamboard Cat' that could easily be doubled......one day.... 3:)
I’m having a hell of a time with this inav stuff in my NT. Elevator working backwards meaning I tilt the NT down the elevator goes down when it should be going up! Same if I pitch craft up the elevators go up! Absolutely no help from the Facebook groups just same old ridiculing. I’m using a QX7 with sbus and a x4rsb receiver.
Him Matt,I am building my Inav nano talon kit ,these days ,and I was wondering If I have to set any reflex for level flight at the elevators, like my S800?
thanx Matt I'll try that.May ask you for any flying tips?I see many videos of NT's spinning out of control for no reason ,what do you think happened?I am building mine as a gift for my little brother and I am a little worried as he only has experience with toy planes.
Hello Matt wonderfull job in all this videos. I learned a lot. Also I have some questions about settings that not work in my case. I am using F4 V1, PPM with dragon link V2. FSTH- 9xRadio. Skywalker falcon . I test all the config in the bench at this point and have the following questions 1.- Can set RTL on the board . Pass T and Horizon mode work ok. In the Inav Config the comand RTL dos not appear in blue even when i see the stick working fine on the Inav Config. On the osd not apear the RTL when i pull the swich. But It does appear RTL and HRZ modes when pulling swich. Also I see a blue led blinking on the board. I do change swhich just in case and the problem continues. Maby have to do with the CLI defaul values on RTL? 2.- Using Inav it is not necesary to set home position manually. Is in it? 3.- where can i find the correct config for the motor stick armed, beacuse mine does not work with your config on video series N°10. Cant get the motor start. all the servos and gps works fine. Thanks
Howdy Pablo, lots of questions, I hope this answers them all. 3. See the wiki github.com/iNavFlight/inav/wiki/Fixed-wing-guide#step-4-replace-default-values ( set small_angle = 180 ) and you set Arm as a mode on the mdoes tab as shown in the previous videos on iNav. 2. The home position is set when you arm the board. 1. Really not sure, go back through the series for the modes and setup and see what I say there. Matt
Thanks Matt for helping me. I can arm the moto now!! yea!! No getting the RTH set yet. :( Working on it, erasing everything and starting from the scratch... For F1 its is possible to read the battery voltage at the OSD?
hey matt do you have a video on how to set up the mixes for the nano talon? I looked but didn't see one. I'm using the CLI command mix off Gethub for the nano talon not sure what pwm out I use for the tail end. 1-motor, 3-ail, 4-?, 5-? . I would just try one combo and test it but not getting passed some beeping I think is from the esc, do I calibrate the ESC through the FC or by-pass it and plug it strait into my receiver to calibrate it? thanks a lot for the help.
Hey Matt, Really enjoy the content you produce. I'm hoping you can help me figure out what is wrong with my nano talon inav setup , I bought an Omnibus F3 from readytoflyquads and loaded it with iNav 1.8. I've got an FRsky Xsr rx connected via sBus and have loaded the custom mix for the 3 servo setup. Everything works except for the second rudder/elev servo (connected to PWM 5. I know it isn't the servo itself as I can switch it with the one connected to PWM 5 and then it works and the other one doesn't. It seems that I'm not getting any output on PWM5. I'll post in the facebook group when (if ) I'm approved.
Hey Matt! I know its been a while since you posted this but what do you reckon to this as a first time plane? Im currently building a 3/4 channel trainer but I'd like to get into FPV and long range stuff with something I can grow with and mod , would this be a good choice?
Howdy Ben, absolutely....... not :) It would be a waste of money for you to buy this one Ben. Instead, look up the Bixler or AXN, a much more prudent investment to learn to fly with, just like I did! Matt
RagTheNutsOff dammit, I knew youd say that .. this is just so much more interesting though! I'll see how my FT Tiny Trainer works out as Uni are effectively paying for it but thanks for the advice :)
thanks matt for the fast answer. however, thats too much for me,. never used the cli in inav or betaflight and i really dont know how to use this text to set up my nano talon using inav.. :( sorry
Howdy, I cannot as that depends on the model and the setup you have made, see here for the full series on iNav ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqd0clW-e_A12yKiOpV--3a2 Matt
has anyone thought about changing the other single servo to 2 servos for more control. I"m a complete novice, so its possible a very stupid question :) Loving the videos, thanks.
Howdy, see here for the AR Stealth Wing (the same as the Recruit) ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqcIAtiryvHsLf8Osp9Bx4L1 and here for the Nano Talon maiden & other vids ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqeYftN40xUG7j65qvqL1awh Matt

Buenas noches, sabría decirme cuánto ángulo tienen que tener las súperficies de control, en especial la profundidad, gracias. Good evening, someone would know how much angle the control surfaces need to have, especially the depth, thanks
Howdy, just connect it up as per the details you have in the mixer on the Tarnais and as per the labels on the stabilizer. It's pretty easy, they're all labeled! Matt
Howdy Chris, mine came with a XT60 connector. I have used a 1300mAh 3S Nano A-Spec battery which worked well and I'm now preferring to use a 1600mAh 4S Nano Tech 4S for the extra flight time and go-go juice on 4S. Hope that helps Chris!
Hi! I have a following problem with my Nano Talon( with omnibus f3 pro): when I move the sticks, it is shown on the screen in iNav,but the servos on the plane doesn’t respond. Also the motor works on the motor test via iNav, but when I try direct from the radio- nothing. Also, the esc starts beeping when plug the battery. Even when I arm it, nothing changes.I will be really glad if you can help me! Thank you!
Thank you! I still have not solved the problem. Is it possible the reason is that I don’t use PDB, and soldered all servo wires directly to the flight controller ? If this is the problem, why the motor also doesn’t work? It works only on motor test in iNav.
Thanks for the video. With such a low amp draw, perhaps you can drastically increase your flight time with the Li-Ion power packs from 3dxr.co.uk: the C ratings of the used cells seem good.
Nice neat install Matt....She does fly predictable smooth in calm air, you must have been up very early as it has been very windy again here, all July in fact...I can't justify buying one just yet as I still have two Mini Talons in boxes bought for £35 in the BG Sales...I have a third, flying one with APM Mini Pro in it, but intend building a 4000mah 3S version super light weight for easy handling with F4 and iNAV....Even then I think it will still be good for a 6km radius if not more....lol....Try 1280mhz video m8, it's so much better than 5.8G...:)...Good job..
EnglishTurbines Howdy ET, yea the mini talon is a LOT of model for the dosh. Over the moon with mine! As for 1.2GHz video, you'd need a base station to receive it. Thus extra kit to carry to the flight line. 5.8GHz is good enough for me :) Matt
Matthew Ogborne Hi Matt, yes I use a custom made Patch Module with a 5.8g relay, its all on a tripod....BUT.....You can get a 1.2G module rx for your Goggles I believe...?...Just like you are using now....and no, you dont have to have those giant 1.2g Skews like Sir Dave uses either...:)
I'm gonna build this but just a few questions when ordering the antenna has a choice does rp sma female fit rp sma male?and the camera should I get pal or ntsc,?
thanks for your quick response ,gonna order the parts some are out of stock so will have to wait ,I want to go in a cloud ive got racing drones but need the extra flight time and return to home function.this looks the best way to do it
I'm building a inav nano talon using your videos, I just went to get the FC and its out of stock but I seen they have a V3 with a barometer. will this work with Inav as well, and other aspects of your build thanks a lot
it was more so because they don't have the v2 till next month. man great channel I just stumbled on you looking at the Nano talon, iv been watching your videos the last 3 days! I have a Bixler 1.1 set up with an arkbird fc and osd, but wanted a smaller fpv platform, thanks again
Hi regards from Colombia, i watch all your videos, i want make a similar tutorial in spanish. I have a question, is posible use the auto Launch option witout GPS or is 100% necesary??? thanks.
hello. nice video. questions : does this FC Omnibus F4 Flight Controller presented in the link -- - - support iBus - i2c Thanks in advance. i'm thinking to buy this setup as my 1st fpv plane. :)
Howdy J, when you say Mw, I assume you mean milii Watt for the video transmitter, the official answer as to be 25mW as thats all that is allowed in the UK. But do note I do use diversity and a diamond antenna too, Matt
Howdy, not really the airframe is too small for any decent camera to go in, you would be better off with the mini Talon instead, see this video ruclips.net/video/dRuO3BT5x58/видео.html Matt
Good morning Matt! Thanks for the iNav vids, just finished successfully setting up my flight controller. I did run into a minor issue with the Nano Talon code, when I cut & paste into the CLI, I get parse errors. Not sure what/why, not exactly a coder. I did try the lines individually. Here's a screen shot i31.photobucket.com/albums/c365/Fyathyrio/parse%20error.jpg
Found the answer after much google-fu...take out the two 0 in the middle of each number set. The formatting has been changed for inav 1.7.x. After this I had to reverse both tail servos in inav servo tab, then all worked. # servo # servo mix smix reset smix 0 2 0 -100 100 smix 1 3 1 -85 100 smix 2 4 1 85 100 smix 3 3 2 -75 100 smix 4 4 2 -75 10
Howdy, if you have any questions about the Nano Talon ask below. If you'd like iNav config settings, they are in the video description above and remember you can post pictures etc... in the FaceBook Group here facebook.com/groups/ragthenutsoff/ Matt
RagTheNutsOff I can
What battery can you carry with all that gear in there? Can you get a 2200 3s?
@@adammcghee1466 Hi. I fly my nano Talon with 3s 2200mah. Fits good. Flight time 20 min.
So glad you came back to iNav Matt! Remember how much I was banging on about it with my Z-84 build!
Howdy Realms, yea their latest versions are miles better than what i first originally tried, thats for sure! Matt
The earlier builds did work for fixed wing but if you used the baro or compass.... not so much!
Another brilliant video! Thanks Matt for putting this together and sharing!
Morning Mark, oh how you're going to enjoy this one fella :) Matt
Can't wait!
Outstanding Video as always Matt
Thanks!
So thorough, love your videos! Going to build a nano just like yours.
Matt you have inspired me to get one and to use inav.. I'm mostly fly mini quads but watching your videos on the Talon & inav.. Just fantastic. Not sure how to setup a V tail but am sure there are videos on RUclips..
Howdy Peter, the v-Tail is easy, there is a copy & paste mix on the iNav wiki you can use! Hope that helps, Matt
Nice. I want an updated version of the Mini-Talon with all these nifty access panels and click-clack wing attachment system....
Morning, I've glad that it has helped you. And yea hovering not so good, unless on a slope for slope soaring, Matt
Great video and excellent explanation of your INAV and other systems. I plan to do the same with the Orbit wing (when it arrives).
Morning, I've got an Orbit wing here, there is just enough room to fit a FC board in that one. Also that wing is super light too! Matt
Hi mat can you do a diagram of the flight controller what’s connected were you should of done a Video of the build I’ve just got a nano talon and looking at putting inav in it.thanks.
Cheers Matt. That makes perfect sense.
Howdy ET, one for a later video :)
Hi Matt, Thanks for sharing a lot of information about INAV. Besides, I am wondering that is there any INAV preset can build a Tailsitter plane just like E-flight X-vert? Which is able to take off and landing vertically ?
Matt why did yu mount the l9r antennas the way you did? would they not work better turned 90 degrees?? Cool video and a nice spot for the receiver!
ok Matt at 62 and new to fpv but not flying as i have bixler and timber. i was confused by the wiring nor much good at electrics but i can knock a tune out on the bagpipes...try that for a laugh...bought the talon after seeing your reviews and decided to try fpv first before next attempting inav..anyway just read somewhere that i should strip the heatshrink from the esc and connect there...is that right?....I am sure that i am not the only one new to this and it would have been useful as you rave about the talon to have had a whole series on setting up for us beginners with fpv and inav...Cheers
Ive watched most of your setup videos. Theyre great. One thing you mentioned but didnt go over is how you are using a BEC with the boards bec? I have the same setup but im not sure which power regulator to snip on the f4 board.
do i have to add a second battery??
Howdy matt... I would love to see your review on the 1.7.2 inav..
Howdy Rentap, it's basically the same except they change the mix input options. I'm still using 1.7.1 as I didn't see any reason to upgrade :) Matt
Matthew Ogborne thank you matt...your videos always helped me building my inav planes...now im hooked with the nano talon because of you...great...haha
ha! I'd be out flying it if it wasn't raining and I wasn't feeling so rough at the moment 😀
Matthew Ogborne have you tried the acro flight mode? I find that it is better than the passthrough mode...the model flies straight like a ruler...
Yep, my 3 main modes are Passthrough, horizon and acro, then RTL when i do something really silly :P
Hi Matt, my nano talon is on the way, I just have 1 question:
Aren’t there too few pwm outputs on the Omnibus f4? If 1/2 are for throttle, there are only 2 left, but there are 3 servos
Did you ever put an action camera on this, or do you think its possible with weight distribution etc ? thanks
Thanks and best regards,
Torgeir
Another great video, thanks! How did you power the servos from the ESC ?
For the NT I guess you don't need the PMW6 as you have only one servo for the AIL. So I connected it as you explained in your Omnibus V2 pro video, use the NT mix, but PMW5 doesn't work. Is that because I use inav 1.8.1 while you are using 1.7.3?
found it ;) - what do you think about putting the vtx in the lower compartment or do you think the antenna will take a hit?
Question, do the small magnets affect the iNav at all? Also, do you think this could be a beginning model, for someone that has a bit of experience?
Hi Mike, yes & no. Yes if you have a compass/magnetometer onboard and enabled. However a compass is not required for iNav. As for a Nano Talon being a good beginners model, definitely not. There are better models out there, like the AXN (look this up on my channel) which would be way better and cheaper, hope that helps Mike, Matt
would you recommend it as a 1st RC aircraft? Also would you use a runcam split for an HD cam?
PopWing, esp if you're in the States, or a TechSumo. Stick with something that is EPP foam and CF rods. That combination is pretty much unbreakable. If you already know how to fly this would be a decent model. It seems about 2X too expensive for what it is. You can get a lot of plane for the same price elsewhere.
Defo not a first time model. Look up the AXN cloud surfer on my channel, it's what I learned to fly with, Matt
can you use the run cam split as your flight cam tho? would it suck up much battery? sorry im new to all this
Matt, I have tried to discern how you fed the antennas through the foam on top. Since that area is all black, it does not show up well in the video. I see no obvious way to do it with out cutting a hole in the foam big enough to pass through one leg of the antenna at a time. Then do you glue or velcro the mount over that hole or what??? Thanks.
Do you use a capacitor on battery leads to reduce noise?
Morning, never Mike. I might sometimes add a torrid coil for power lines to the FPV camera, but that's not very often. Matt
my battery is connected to the esc and low battery voltage alarm ???
Hey Alan, I'm not sure why you need a second battery? Matt
David RC
You can inject it into the PPM stream through the flight controller. In the receiver tab
I'm pretty sure this only works with telemetry receivers, not the L9R
Thats correct grahame, you have to attach the RSSI out to the RSSI pad on the F4 FC board, see this video for the setup ruclips.net/video/LJLeuoeMy2I/видео.html
Now that the kit version is available if you were to build up all your electronics from scratch what would your parts list look like?
Hi Matt,
Is it possible to ignore the V-Tail and just use Aileron mix like a yank and bank? I have an extra eagle tree vector lying around and I'm trying to decide what settings to use etc. Any tips would be great. Thank you for your thorough and amazing content!
Howdy Charles, ther vector supports V-tail models as I use them in my Mini Talon and X-UAV Clouds. As for whether you want to use rudder or not, thats up to you whether you include it in your transmitter as a mix if not using a vector in the model. Hope that helps Charles, Matt
Have you put crossfire on this yet? If so how did you mount the antenna?
Any reason you are not using an XSR receiver? I think that is what I'd go for if I was doing those changes.
John Crombie Howdy John, the L9R works for "miles" :) Matt
Thanks for the video! Do you think a Foxeer Arrow V3 could squeeze into the camera slot? I'd like to use a camera with an OSD.
Morning! Yes absolutely. Because if it doesn't fit, a quick whip around with the craft knife WILL make it fit :) Hope that helps fella, Matt
What are the part numbers for the two servo mod that you did?
A nice review, could you tell me what the green rings are called and what is the purpose are they to stop interference and are they magnets?
Hey Alan, those are torrid coils, they reduce noise . Have a google on them as they work really well. Matt
Matt
Hello Matt,
I managed to get my s800 flying with the f4 v2 board with the help of your inav series, thanks for all your help!
Cheers
Joe
I think u set up yaw (rudder) the wrong way in the mix. I had to change from -75 to 75 (on both) to get it right.
Hi Matt I like your video and I want to build inav on my Nano Talon. But the gps you recommend is under restocking on banggood. Can you recommend another gps (on banggood) ? Many thanks, Henning.
Howdy fella, I cannot as I have not used them. Get the GPS from eBay instead as it'll be the same thing. Matt
Hi Matt, Thanks for answering back. I found a similar and ordered on eBay. :-)
Darn... lost my post... great review but have you checked the amp draw using an accurate watt meter? A review on BG says on 3S it draws 10.3A on full throttle and "around" 14A on 4S. But your 28 minute time seems to support your OSD reading.
Hi John, the review on BG is me. You are aware there is a difference between the current drawn when the model is in the sky compared to that on the desk/ground? Also I didn't hit the sticks hard during the flight, which would cause a spike in current either. Hope that makes sense, Matt
Also see my reply to your other comment on the other flight.
Matt
how do you power the runcam??
Hi Alan, from the battery fella, Matt
The ESC and gps that you listed are out of stock. Do you have any recommendations for replacements?
Hi Nate, check eBay for the GPS unit, makes sure it's the same though. As for the ESC, anything similar should be OK.
Howdy Dieter, thats beyond anything I would cover in this basics series. See the iNav wiki pages on how "smix" works, Matt
I I love the videos good work anyhow I have the zohd dart which I have inav setup in my question is it does not have enough control or is not responsive enough when flying is there a way to increase roll and Pitch responsiveness to make it more Snappy while flying as I did not have enough control to pull up from a dive in horizon mode thank you
Great job just got my s800 so now i want a nano by the way Mat what motor do you reco for the s800 Regards Bill
Howdy, see my YT channel, I did a series on Inav and also one episode for the RSSI connection. Matt
What battery should i use fpr 30 min flight? Pls help i am begginer
Hi, are you really sure you want to fly for 30 minutes when you're a beginner? Pretty sure it would be irresponsible of me to add anything to help you tbh fella, Matt
@@RagTheNutsOff im using 4s 2200mah for 30 mins flight
Hi. Great video. I guess i will watch it few times more when my talon and FC arrives :). So i understand there is no PDB needed when using f4 pro v2 or v3 ?
Howdy fella, no PDB needed at all, well unless you want to use one. Matt
Hey Matt. I've done a lot with iNav on quads and hexes. My question is, do you trust iNav enough yet to run it in your mini drak?
Howdy Mike, yep I'd put it in the Mini Drak if I had too, however the Vector that's in there is working so well, I'm not likely ever to want to take it out :) Matt
I now have a redundant stabiliser from my talon and was wondering if i could stick this in a 3d trainer for a quick recovery option...any thoughts???
Hi Matt. Did you remove any diodes on the board before powering the servos from the Esc (as suggested in some forums) or has it worked out OK to just take the ESC and plug it into the PWM slot to power them?
Hey Alan, I'm just plugging in the ESC and it's powering the servos OK. Hope that helps, Matt
How hard or easy is it to set this up with a little pan and tilt mount on top of the nose? Feasible?
Matt
I HAVE noticed smooth flight- possibly deserving of the prefix; Silky! ;)
Coldn't, & still can't quite, see all the benefits of V-Tail- and still liking wings.....buuuuuut.......
Then again, I do have PDF plans for a 57" foamboard Cat' that could easily be doubled......one day....
Morning, watch the second half of this video, the mixer is covered in it ruclips.net/video/5Z5dTBIDLC4/видео.html Matt
RagTheNutsOff thanks but I gave up. I purchasing the full size talon and going with vector or pixhawk. Not a fan of inav.
Him Matt,I am building my Inav nano talon kit ,these days ,and I was wondering If I have to set any reflex for level flight at the elevators, like my S800?
Howdy fella, yes. The CG on this model is correct, however you need some uptrim, say 2mm and try that, Matt
thanx Matt I'll try that.May ask you for any flying tips?I see many videos of NT's spinning out of control for no reason ,what do you think happened?I am building mine as a gift for my little brother and I am a little worried as he only has experience with toy planes.
Hello Matt
wonderfull job in all this videos. I learned a lot.
Also I have some questions about settings that not work in my case.
I am using F4 V1, PPM with dragon link V2. FSTH- 9xRadio. Skywalker falcon .
I test all the config in the bench at this point and have the following questions
1.- Can set RTL on the board .
Hey Matt,
Really enjoy the content you produce.
I'll see how my FT Tiny Trainer works out as Uni are effectively paying for it but thanks for the advice :)
how did you adjust ailerons in inav with only one servo attached??? normally you need two
Howdy fella, see the video description above by pressing SHOW MORE, it has the details in there that you need.
thanks matt for the fast answer. however, thats too much for me,. never used the cli in inav or betaflight and i really dont know how to use this text to set up my nano talon using inav.. :( sorry
Care to your pid values ?
Howdy Sajaks, as mentioned in the video, see the video description above. Press SHOW MORE and the links to my setup are included, Matt
It doesn't seem to rock as much with inav. Did you notice a smoother flight?
Howdy fella, yes as I have used the autotune feature that has made it a lot nicer to fly since this video was record, Matt
can you send me a diagram where to plug the servos into the omnibus f4 v2
Howdy, I cannot as that depends on the model and the setup you have made, see here for the full series on iNav ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqd0clW-e_A12yKiOpV--3a2 Matt
has anyone thought about changing the other single servo to 2 servos for more control. I"m a complete novice, so its possible a very stupid question :) Loving the videos, thanks.
How good was the stock stabilizer on the Talon? How would it compare to the Blade Theory W, or the new RMRC recruit?
Howdy, see here for the AR Stealth Wing (the same as the Recruit) ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqcIAtiryvHsLf8Osp9Bx4L1 and here for the Nano Talon maiden & other vids ruclips.net/p/PLgoM4-umzSqeYftN40xUG7j65qvqL1awh Matt
Buenas noches, sabría decirme cuánto ángulo tienen que tener las súperficies de control, en especial la profundidad, gracias.
Good evening, someone would know how much angle the control surfaces need to have, especially the depth, thanks
please help me i just got my nano and i dont know where o cinnect it to the x8r!!
Howdy, just connect it up as per the details you have in the mixer on the Tarnais and as per the labels on the stabilizer. It's pretty easy, they're all labeled! Matt
What’s the weight?Without the battery.
+lucas Lei Hi Lucas, you asked this 3 times on 3 videos?
What battery you using matt just ordered one saying it has xt30 is that true?
Howdy Chris, mine came with a XT60 connector. I have used a 1300mAh 3S Nano A-Spec battery which worked well and I'm now preferring to use a 1600mAh 4S Nano Tech 4S for the extra flight time and go-go juice on 4S. Hope that helps Chris!
Matthew Ogborne thanks mate banggood being strange lol
Thank you!
Howdy, see here ruclips.net/video/TfZZnurrIRA/видео.html or check their wiki, Matt
Thank you! I still have not solved the problem. Is it possible the reason is that I don’t use PDB, and soldered all servo wires directly to the flight controller ? If this is the problem, why the motor also doesn’t work? It works only on motor test in iNav.
Thanks for the video. With such a low amp draw, perhaps you can drastically increase your flight time with the Li-Ion power packs from 3dxr.co.uk: the C ratings of the used cells seem good.
turdsurfer Evening, I have a 4S1P pack here that I made, I'll give that a whirl and it's rated around 2500mAh too! Matt
Matthew Ogborne Hi Matt, yes I use a custom made Patch Module with a 5.8g relay, its all on a tripod....BUT.....You can get a 1.2G module rx for your Goggles I believe...?...Just like you are using now....and no, you dont have to have those giant 1.2g Skews like Sir Dave uses either...:)
hi matt i watch inav at the beginning and you didnt like it now it seems to be good is this because of the new board
Hi Andrew, no it's not the board, they fixed the bugs and it now works great :) Matt
I'm gonna build this but just a few questions when ordering the antenna has a choice does rp sma female fit rp sma male?and the camera should I get pal or ntsc,?
Howdy Paul, yes thats correct on the connections and for the FPV camera, PAL. It's a bigger picture. Hope that helps Paul, Matt
thanks for your quick response ,gonna order the parts some are out of stock so will have to wait ,I want to go in a cloud ive got racing drones but need the extra flight time and return to home function.this looks the best way to do it
I'm building a inav nano talon using your videos, I just went to get the FC and its out of stock but I seen they have a V3 with a barometer. will this work with Inav as well, and other aspects of your build thanks a lot
Howdy, no Baro is needed on fixed wing models, hope that helps, Matt
it was more so because they don't have the v2 till next month.
man great channel I just stumbled on you looking at the Nano talon, iv been watching your videos the last 3 days! I have a Bixler 1.1 set up with an arkbird fc and osd, but wanted a smaller fpv platform, thanks again
oh the v3 does not have current meter ill see if I can find a v2
Hey how do you set up the stock stabilizer?
Howdy Alex, just attach the labeled pins to your receiver, nothing complicated, Matt
Ok i must have done something wrong it will only go into stablised mode when i shut of the transmitter
Odd, I had mine on a 3 way switch for the mode and it worked in the 3 modes. Matt
Can you get telemetry back to your taranis from the omnibus f4 v2 via smart port with the x8r rx, ? thanks.
Howdy fella, no idea, see the inav wiki. Matt
Hi regards from Colombia, i watch all your videos, i want make a similar tutorial in spanish. I have a question, is posible use the auto Launch option witout GPS or is 100% necesary??? thanks.
Howdy fella, I have no idea on auto launch as I class it as a gimmick. See here for details on how to set it up github.com/iNavFlight/inav/wiki Matt
hello. nice video.
questions : does this FC Omnibus F4 Flight Controller presented in the link -- -
- support iBus
- i2c
Thanks in advance.
i'm thinking to buy this setup as my 1st fpv plane. :)
Howdy, I have no idea on iBus I'm afraid, Matt
well if sbus is working then ibus would work also.
did you added external mag .. or this board has an internal one ?. thx.
Just use a 1 uart for ibus...
What Mw do you normally use???
Howdy J, when you say Mw, I assume you mean milii Watt for the video transmitter, the official answer as to be 25mW as thats all that is allowed in the UK. But do note I do use diversity and a diamond antenna too, Matt
Were can i buy inav ?
+Alex Staden-Lea Alex, you don't buy inav, see the playlist on the setup on my RUclips channel, Matt
HELLO MATT FOR THIS CONFIGURATION A SURVEY OR MAPPING CAMARA AND WILL BE INSTALLED IN THE NOUSE THANK YOU
Howdy, not really the airframe is too small for any decent camera to go in, you would be better off with the mini Talon instead, see this video ruclips.net/video/dRuO3BT5x58/видео.html Matt
# servo
# servo mix
