    Love your tutorials man. Easy to follow and straight to the point. Could you cover running tailscale in a container? Maybe a compose stack using portainer for say... A media server? Omv for example.
    Oh subbed by the way

      @@ChuckTaylorSA Thank you for Watching!! as to your question I haven't really checked if it is available in portainer I would need to check it and do some testing
      If I do find out I will reply again to your comment and make a video about it

    How does this work for behind a router? My router can do tailscale by itself or a VPN server both openvpn or wireguard. Do both the nas and router need tailscale on them?

      @JeffComputerService  14 дней назад +1

      I at the moment do not have a router that does tailscale for me but in your situation you can just install tailscale on the NAS following the step by steps in the video and then add another client in this case a computer or phone and install tailscale on them once that is done both the NAS and the other device you connected should already be connected on the same tailnet of (tailscale) just by putting the IP it got from tailscale you should immediately be able to connect to it remotely with no issues
      I hope this helped 😁

      That would be awesome! I'm new to TrueNAS Scale and have been struggling to install ZeroTier. I've been trying for a week without any success.

    Do I need to install the tailscale Client?

    • @JeffComputerService
      @JeffComputerService  14 дней назад

      Yes, you need to install it for the Computer you want to have access
      Any computer connected to the tailscale client is going to have access to that server in this case (TrueNAS Scale)
      Hope you found this useful

    I managed to get the tailscale setup and can log into my truenas server, however I can't seem to access the SMB share remotely using the Ip address given in tailscale.....any ideas?

      was you able to make a user on truenas scale and give it access to the SMB share you made with the username and password you created on the truenas scale ?

      @@JeffComputerService Hi Jeff...yeah i've had truenas for about 5 months and can access the share locally from another PC as i've network mapped the location, using your method I am able to access the truenas log in page from a remote location with no difficulty and can navigate around the truenas server i.e apps, dashboard, and even install new apps...i'm not not able to access the share folder

      Hello there, thank you for coming to my attention with this problem I'll need to verify on my side if I have this issue if not then I'll try to recreate the problem and provide you with a solution
      I will reply to you again as soon as possible with a solution for this and thank you for watching 😁

      Hello again i made a few testing with the SMB shares and was able to access it on my side
      i made a few testing with a phone and a computer used a hotspot to connect to a difference network
      connected the different computer and phone to the tailnet both of then successfully was able to access the Truenas Scale Server
      for the Tailscale Configuration everything is the same the only thing i need to enable is the Bind Network to access the server after that i decided to make a new folder for my user in the truenas scale and made it accessible for that specific user
      i also restared the SMB Share Service to see if any issues was given sadly i did not get the issue that failed to connect to the SMB Share but stopping the service and restarted work again like normal i also made a new datasheet for it to see if it causes me any issues so far i have been able to connect with no issues to the SMB Share over the provided ip via tailscale nothing else in my part has been change
      for the SMB Share Creation i did
      ADD choose the folder then Create Datasheet in the Purpose area stayed the same Default Share parameters
      nothing else was modified everything else remained default
      i Hope this helped in any way possible

      It didn't work for you? Was you successful in adding the device to your tailscale (tailnet) ?
