So who is the luthier? Giovanni Paolo Maggini was 1580-1630. This is a copy or a Mggini model one, not a Maggini work. Here are some examples of Maggini violins: ruclips.net/video/pldrx6jXWTY/видео.htmlsi=0VbFjUJWPOK0QMTt ruclips.net/video/kW7V4vAWhXU/видео.htmlsi=q9-hlb5rCq3oQ7vO
Its HIS MAKE AND MODEL, not his PERSONAL violin. After death, luthiers and their trademarked style differences (double perfling, in Maggini's case) continued on. Just like you can buy a Les Paul guitar years after he died.
The term 'ascribed to' is wrong. It's a copy and should be called that. It's not even 'school of', as that term usually refers to instruments made during the maker's lifetime or soon after by makers who knew him. Ascribe means that someone believes it to be a Maggini, but others disagree. Given its date ca 70 years after Maginni's death, no one can 'ascribe' it to be the work of Maggini. Bonham's should know better.
So beautiful!
Edith was a beautifull violinist.

Maggini was born 1580 and he died in his 50’s. How can this instrument be ascribed to him?

@@totalrobot It's not a Maggini violin. It's a copy; hence, "ascribed to."
"Ascribed to" violins are almost never made by the maker that the instrument has been ascribed to!
Go figure!
It's not a Maggini. I know this for a fact. Nor is the present seller selling it as a Maggini.
