"It's meat and sauce." Heh...ummm...no. It's meat, rub, and the wood they use to smoke. There's Mesquite, oak, maple, hickory, pecan, cherry, apple...and a bunch of others. In fact, in some BBQ circles, if you have to use sauce, you did it wrong.

@@Ryno_D1no depends on the lunch or dinner. During lunches where one needs to be back at work in less than an hour no unless one takes it to go. But a lunch out with friends and or family where one doesn't have to rush then it can. And oftentimes people go to restaurants for dinner which can be longer. Nicer restaurants tend to take more time than fast food and the ice dose have time to melt. One should not have to drink their soda quickly to prevent ice melt if they don't want to.
Grilling is NOT bbq. In the south, you gonna be murderized if you invite someone over for bbq and you got hamburgers and hot dogs! Only northerners say stuff like that. Bless their hearts❤❤❤
When I traveled to Europe, that is a what I could not get over. Our country is so big and diverse, but the whole country is compared as if we are all the same and have the same lives. Comparing states in the us is like comparing England to Ireland and all the other English speaking countries. You travel across the country and things are that different across different regions of the country.
Right?! Just meat and sauce, how wrong can you get it??!! Well....you just fail to understand what goes into true bbq. Bbq is NOT grilling and slapping sauce on meat.....it is an art, smoking takes 14+ hours!

Whaaaaaaaaat?! Just meat with sauce? No no no. There’s so much that goes into making great BBQ. You might need to add that statement in your “ what offends Americans “.
Yes. And not always sauce. Some of my recipes don't include a bbq sauce. And not always meat. A lot of side dishes are bbq'ed. like potatoes, corn, zucchini and such. Takes some trial and error sometimes to get a good recipe down.
If they were referring to some of the chain BBQ, I could possibly agree. But a real BBQ joint has a smokehouse out back. and a family recipe that's been handed down for generations. Not that electronic crap behind the counter. And barbecue sauce should be served on the side like any other condiment.
“It’s just meat and sauce?” Tell that to my Uncle Travis who makes the best southern BBQ in the world. He gets up at 6 am and we eat at 6 pm. It’s an all day process to get it right. No offense, we love you Brits but you missed it on this, we take our BBQ seriously. Please try Memphis BBQ once, Mick Jagger used to eat at The Rendezvous, it’s the best.
I'll bet Uncle T is working on his BBQ the day before the BBQ too, and maybe even a day or two before that. A labor of delicious love it is! Just meat and sauce - fightin words if I ever heard 'em!
Laura Greenstreet, I rarely drink sodas so I hate it when the waiter brings a refill and I haven't even drunk an inch out of the first one. Such a waste.
@@robinmills8675 Yeah, I typically waited until they were at a half glass. Then you get your regulars and know if they want refills or not and if so, when. When I was a server at the Cracker Barrel, I surprisingly had a few customers who would want half sweet and half unsweetened iced tea. I didn't have time to play chemistry, so I would take them a glass of sweet tea, tell them to take a drink and see if it was ok. 99% of the time they said it was perfect. Lol. The very few who said it was a little more on the sweet side, I would apologize and they never got upset. But when I would walk through doing refills, I would just alternate giving them sweet tea and the next time unsweetened tea. But yeah, most of the time when they wanted half and half and I took them all sweet, they couldn't tell the difference. Lol
Yeah but most servers are so used to getting customers a glass of ice with a tablespoon of drink that I've adopted the habit of saying "No ice!" three times.
“How wrong can you get it, it’s just meat and sauce” Brisket that’s been dry rubbed, smoked and then charred on grill before returning to the smoker over the course of multiple days: am I a joke to you?
savannah eh I am 50/50 on if college kids will tip or not. A lot of college kids are severs themselves so they understand the hustle. However when middle schoolers or high schoolers come in, I roll my eyes.
@@laurenhills239 that's true, I was a bit dramatic. I used to work near a private expensiveee college & they would rarely tip much of anything, but the place I work now is very hit or miss.
When you order your drink and don’t want ice, or much ice, just ask for no ice, or light ice. “Could I have a Diet Coke, no ice, please?” Or “...light ice, please?”
I think a lot of countries just .... take what is on the menu, even if they don't like it .... and they think we are extra for ordering SPECIFICALLY what we want lol
Once when i was on the French Rivera, I accidentally asked for a "disgusting Coke!" I said, "Je voudrais un coca avec beaucoup dégueulasse. " I meant to say, "de la glace." "I'd like a coke with a lot of ice." The waiter gave me a look like I was being an annoying American smartass on purpose! My French boyfriend at the time laughed and corrected it for me. It was really funny! I'd taken 4 and a half years of French too but hadn't practiced it much before going.
I served tables in college and I never gave foreign travelers poor service. Part of the "tip" is listening to you talk and being able to ask questions. I loved the social aspect of serving tables, and on the tip system, I probably made A LOT more money than I would have otherwise. I lived the posh life back then.
I lived in England for three years - my gas grill got used year round. Weather is no excuse. I may have been overseas, but no one is stopping me from grilling a steak, or burgers or chicken when I want it...
On my first trip to Paris with two friends we ordered cokes and they came in skinny glasses that were about 8 ounces. The waiter twice asked if we wanted more coke and we did, so we had 9 glasses between us. When the bill came we realized that we had spent $54 on coke and this was in the 90's. We didn't realize that free refills wasn't a thing everywhere.
Shawn G I ordered a Diet Coke in Brussels (needed the caffeine to stave off jet lag and I’m not a coffee drinker) and they brought me the tiniest bottle of soda I’d ever seen. I googled to convert the milliliters to ounces and saw that it was 6.25 ounces. I laughed and laughed...can you imagine that in the US? Meanwhile, beer was being served in huge glasses at 1/4 the price.
gypsy 1999 Free refills started in the mid 80s. One of the fast food places started doing it. Either Mcdonalds or Burger king, can't remember. You had to go to the counter to get a refill. Then more places did it and by 1990 most sit down restautants had it also. Then fastfood places got tired of doing the refills and put machines in the order area as selfserve.
Apparently it's a regional thing. (from wikipedia, take it or leave it): "In American English usage, grilling refers to a fast process over high heat while barbecuing refers to a slow process using indirect heat or hot smoke... In British usage, barbecuing refers to a fast cooking process done directly over high heat, while grilling refers to cooking under a source of direct, moderate-to-high heat-known in the United States as broiling." But like jonny said, it depends on the context as well. If I'm going to a "backyard barbecue", I would generally expect burgers. We also call a grill a "barbecue". But if someone wanted to "eat barbecue" I'd expect ribs and tri tip and the like.
I studied abroad in London years ago, and the Customer Service thing was a huge deal with me. Very hard to get used to. Because I wasn't accustomed to the rudeness too it felt personal and annoyed me. I'm also pretty sure I freaked out some Londoners by smiling and saying hello when we made eye contact. But to me not to do that is rude so 🤷 Sorry London
Good for you!👍 I can sympathize….I adjust my smiles/hellos to where I am. Usually, I don’t smile & say hello to everyone I may encounter but for those who are kind & polite to me, I respond positively in-turn.😊 Those who are impolite/unkind, don’t get my attention….I ignore them. Just don’t have the mental/emotional energy to seek anything from “empty wells.”
The US has a law, Americans with Disabilities Act, that requires accessibility for just about all businesses. Trains do carry a whole lot of freight. Oil tankers, coal, grain, containers, etc. Sometimes >100 cars.
Dana says- They caught so much grief over that video. They tried 4 different meats (not just chicken), 4 different cobblers, mac n' cheese, and she didn't even eat the "lettuce salad" in the video (she took it back to their hotel to eat later). They did perfectly fine, and that is the great thing about America- no matter what your likes or dislikes, you're bound to find them here, right? My kiddo won't eat any meat other than ribs from BBQ joints.
Any government building built for public accommodation after 1992 must be fully accessible for the disabled. So it's been 30 years of sensitivity to the needs of others. And these are buildings built by the government. Privately, not so much.
@@MrJimbo327 Yeah. I never said the sauce was cooked on. Every BBQ place I've ever been to in Texas has plain meat (with dry rubs) and sauce on the side. I don't use the sauce myself because if the meat isn't good without it then it isn't good.
Texas does lovely things with beef brisket. But without a curly tail and a squeal, it ain't true 'Cue. make a trip to Memphis for some REAL barbecue. Now THEM's fightin' words.
Regarding accessibility - we have wider spaces here not because people are overweight but because we have a LAW which requires at least 36” door frames and hallways that require a wheelchair to get through comfortably. It’s called the American with Disabilities Act.
Just FYI “barbecuing” and “grilling” are two different things even though some people feel like they can use the two words interchangeably. Burgers are “grilled” (high heat, short time) whereas barbecue is food (usually beef, pork or chicken) that’s cooked under lower heat levels for longer periods of time. A lot of legit bbq restaurants will be smoking their meats for 12+ hours overnight so that it’s ready for the next day.
I wait tables for a living, have done for many years. I work in the historic district of Savannah, GA and interact with people from all over the world. They all get the same service from me -good ole Southern hospitality. 😉 I am amazed that I can make a good living on a system (tipping) that is purely voluntary. Most people tip and do so generously, or at least satisfactorily. My desire to give good service is a point of personal pride and responsibility and it is usually rewarded with monetary compensation. When not, I can at least be happy that I did my job.
Southern hospitality is fantastic! This is why I love to live in GA now. Savannah is beautiful, and a delightful place to visit. Keep up the great job!
Mama Katz I went to Savannah with my daughter, we LOVE Savannah. The service workers encourage patrons to take their alcoholic drinks to go when they leave. Very laidback vibe in that city, my kind of folks. I’m from Arkansas so I get the hospitality thing 100%, it’s just how we are.

I came to London 7 months pregnant. The lack of ice in drinks killed me. Dead. I was so thirsty the whole time I was there. Perishing... the only water I drink is melted ice in my drinks. Lol 😂😂😂
It's a CVS specific thing. I hate their receipts and they obviously don't care about their customers or the environment because everyone has complained for years and they do NOTHING. I only go there as a last resort
Just to let you know, when it comes to accessibility it is actually the law. The law is abbreviated as ADA. This stands for the Americans with Disabilities Act. The government and individuals can actually sue for damages if the building isn't accessible for people with disabilities. I believe the tech spec for width of doors and aisles in stores is 18 inches. All public accommodations have to be accessible for wheel chairs. This includes, all businesses, government offices, libraries, malls, schools, etc.
I’m more disturbed that you bought a bottle of wine in CVS than I am of the length of the receipt 😩 That had to be a dreadfully awful bottle of wine if CVS is selling it 😂🤣😂
Well, that's probably true for wine snobs. This is the reason that bottles of wine can sometimes fetch $40 or more. A big price in a fancy store with an unusual label? Who CARES what it tastes like?! I paid a lot of money, so it HAS to be good. I hate this attitude. This is why the Aussies can ship a perfectly good bottle of pinot noir or cabernet sauvignon 12,000 miles and charge $7 for it, while Napa County can't ship it 300 miles for less than $30. Remember when we used to think California wine was SO superb, because of climate, soil, etc.? Well, they produce wine in Washington now and in Baja California . . . and I would pit a good $15 bottle of Malbec from Argentina against anything in Napa, Sonoma or Mendocino . . . and I'm California. For the record, there is no wine, drinkable that is, produced on the east coast.
What I found, when I was in NYC last summer, was it is DIFFICULT to find good wine even in a wine shop! Here in California, fairly good wine is available everywhere: yes, even in a drug store. Certainly in a supermarket. And definitely in a wine shop.
We expect excellent customer service in all situations regardless of whether it is and industry which has tips. Examples: store clerk, customer service telephone workers.
"The customer is always right." That means if you get into an argument with a customer, you will be the one who loses in the end. That's why customers get treated well here.
Hey Joel, I keep hearing how much it bothers you that we put so much ice in drinks at restaurants. Simle solution...order soda without ice plus a glass of ice on the side. Use as mush/little as you like! Thats what we do! 🙂
He may be speaking of our soda machines which add water to the syrup so usually don't taste as strong as a can of pop? Then ice is added to the glass, so of course it would taste watery to them.
@@ohioitis200 Well, that wasn't what I have been hearing...he specifically talks about a waitress bringing him soda. I'm sure the soda machine is also an issue as that's just gross.
I'm an American who gets the ice on the side when I order soft drinks (mostly in winter, as I'm a southerner). The wait staff has never even flinched, so it's perfectly fine. The customer should get what they want if it's not unreasonable.
A suggestion Maureen,I wouldn't take the slightest notice of these two,I manage about 2mins before moving on2 the comment section. I love them explaining how rude the people at the no tip cafe are, without realizing what it is that causes the tipped employees to not be rude. Hilarious.
Of course they know. They are well travelled people. Everyone knows. You will even experience rudeness in a restaurant where tips are normal. It's a cultural thing.
@@SlowLane-pv3nf You missed the point. They start off by saying they prefer the no tipping, then go on to complain that people are rude at the no tipping place.
I don't think the rudeness stems from a lack of tipping because tipping is not customary in Europe. Servers are paid a livable wage and not dependent on it as part of their salary like they are in the USA. You would only tip if service was exceptional in Europe. This was our experience when there and also what our friends and coworkers throughout Europe confirmed.
@@vickicerruti Thank you for agreeing with me, despite your attempts at protest. To recap, the video said tipping is not customary and the help is rude. Where we are, tipping is customary and the help is delightful. Just when I thought you could not accidentally make my point better, you add in the actual pay. In the US, when they abandon tipping to try your "livable wage" it adds up to WAY less money, the staff quits, and they have to hire new people as they decide to go back to tipping. People who work on tips in America do quite well. But to be fair, the American people are the most generous in the world. Maybe pay structures that rely on the decency of the average person, don't work in lesser nations, such as yours.
Bre-B-Que is far different from grilling. Cooking burgers or a steak on open flame is grilling. Many people in the US call grilling BBQ, but it is in no way the same.
Did you know there are dedicated "farms" which grow trees to be processed into paper. There are actually more forests in the US now than there were 200 years ago.
Sure. But all the old growth forests are gone. I was trying to put a screw in a post in an old building and the heads of the screws broke off. The post was made from "heart of pine". The wood was compressed by the weight of the tree being over 100 years old. They used to make furniture out of it that lasted seemingly forever.
@@robertcuminale1212 Not all gone, but going fast. They need to be protected. The EU is causing a lot of trees to be cut in the South for wood pellets.
Even better than the free refill is the to go drink! I live in New Jersey where you do get free refills but down south in States like Florida or North Carolina they will ask you would you like a to go drink? My jaw almost hit the floor when I was first asked! They literally give you another round of drinks in a to-go cup for the road!
I can’t stand drinks with no ice. Every time I’m in London, I have to tell them drag the glass through the ice until they see ice at the top. Uggg, room temp drinks are vile. Love you guys :-)
Kind of depends on the time of year if you think about it. Drink an icy drink mid-December & your tonsils will be extra happy. Which is why I mix hot water with my room-temp. water every morning.
That’s REALLY unfortunate! As Americans, we’re always taught to do a quick review of the tip-culture in a country we’re visiting yet, somehow, that courtesy is often not returned to Americans when they’re visiting us. There ARE some exceptions, but often I’m sadly, NOT surprised?😏
Having been a server (waiter) I busted my butt with every table whether I thought they would give me a tip or not. I can say that most servers were upset with me because I usually got big tips. But I worked for it so I never felt bad about it. If I didn't get a good tip it only made me work harder.
I'm from Georgia and I absolutely love BBQ pulled pork, but I recently visited Texas and I also fell in love with brisket! You can't go wrong with good slow cooked beef brisket! I'd have to say I love them both equally though. :-)
I started laughing when you talked about British people getting bad service from American servers. I’m a waiter and while I don’t give British people bad service, I do have it in my head that I’m probably not getting a good tip, especially British business men, they can be very pompous and disrespectful
from my experience waiting tables the best way I found to increase tips was to provide visible excellent service to my entire section regardless of whether I thought one table would tip well or not. Honestly I loved when I would get a really bad table in the mix because the rest of your section would usually tip higher out of pity for me having to deal with rude customers on my $4.12/hour job.
idk where you did it, but probably the best place to be a waiter is in a southern state, there’s rarely rude customers because they’re big in manners and they give large tips
I think it's insane that now delivery drivers are wanting up to 20%! They don't wait on you, not really. The 3rd party apps are hurting customers and businesses alike. I only order from places that are less than a half mile away so I don't feel bad for only tipping 5-10%. If I had more money, I'd tip like I used to tip. Very well. Same goes for all my friends, but I think that has to do with our parents and also working in these low paying jobs when we were in our early 20's, so we know what it's like. Food just got crazy expensive here in the last year. Even fast food it too expensive now.
You'd be surprised, different areas make barbecue differently. And there are different tastes to it. Sometimes, depending on where you live here, there are bbq contests, just like chili cook offs. Love this.
Hey Joel & Lia! I have been working for CVS for three years now. I always recommend customers to sign up for digital receipts and to download the CVS app to clip the coupons onto their loyalty card so that those coupons won’t print avoiding the whole long receipt fiasco. You could also opt to receive both physical and digital receipts where a physical receipt will print without any coupons and a digital receipt with coupons is emailed as well. Another trick is that if the item or items you are purchasing aren’t on sale for that week you don’t need to present your loyalty card and the register will only print a regular receipt with no coupons. P.S. We love your tangents so don’t worry! Can’t wait for this year’s content!
The only problem with the CVS/Pharmacy app is that it's, more often than not, hit-or-miss (most often the latter) when trying to log in to it. I can count, on one hand, the number of times I was successfully able to log in during the two years I had the app.

Costco membership in the US doesn't require business ownership. We hate CVS for this as well. The BBQ you mention isn't the same as many refer to as BBQ. The BBQ you mention refers to cooking meat (typically in a smoker or on the grill) with a particular spice mix called a rub, or a particular style of sauce. Most people call grilling burgers and hot dogs as BBQ but isn't the same. Cafe sounds like a diner. I think train and transport refers to cargo. Generally moving people would say transportation. Refills are generally for fountain drinks only, not for canned and bottled drinks. (You can ask most places for easy ice.)
I'm kinda shocked at the thought of truly rude servers. So what if they're not getting tipped, they're still getting paid for a job they're supposed to be doing.

Unfortunately there's a lot of Americans who dont even know that grilling and bbq are separate things. Lol
Christopher Butler but “a bbq” is a party with any food served from a grill etc outside.
Apparently it's a regional thing. (from wikipedia, take it or leave it): "In American English usage, grilling refers to a fast process over high heat while barbecuing refers to a slow process using indirect heat or hot smoke... In British usage, barbecuing refers to a fast cooking process done directly over high heat, while grilling refers to cooking under a source of direct, moderate-to-high heat-known in the United States as broiling."
But like jonny said, it depends on the context as well. If I'm going to a "backyard barbecue", I would generally expect burgers. We also call a grill a "barbecue". But if someone wanted to "eat barbecue" I'd expect ribs and tri tip and the like.

Hey I'm form the south we get that good ole boxed wine 👍😳🤦♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣
Based on the date, 2 days after V day, it was probably on sale for dirt cheap!
Really.... yout pay $45 for a bottle of Bogle in NY. In CA, you can buy Bogle in some Walgreens and CVS for $10....
What I found, when I was in NYC last summer, was it is DIFFICULT to find good wine even in a wine shop! Here in California, fairly good wine is available everywhere: yes, even in a drug store. Certainly in a supermarket. And definitely in a wine shop.

In the South Meat & 3 restaurants are friendly. If you’re not called “honey” or “hun” by the server you’re not I the right place.
I started laughing when you talked about British people getting bad service from American servers. I’m a waiter and while I don’t give British people bad service, I do have it in my head that I’m probably not getting a good tip, especially British business men, they can be very pompous and disrespectful
The parking thing in the US really depends on where you go.
from my experience waiting tables the best way I found to increase tips was to provide visible excellent service to my entire section regardless of whether I thought one table would tip well or not.
@@travisinhell12 I've actually seen in other articles that those in the southern & western states are known to be horrible tipper's
SO TRUE!
Love this.
I couldn't stop laughing when y'all were talking about the rude waiters 🤣🤣
That's what I said and I use.
As long as there are people too poor to afford smart phones, that won't really be a solution, unfortunately.
@@jwb52z9 Lifeline program allows them to obtain cheap smartphones for free. You just have to recertifty once a year.
The only problem with the CVS/Pharmacy app is that it's, more often than not, hit-or-miss (most often the latter) when trying to log in to it. I can count, on one hand, the number of times I was successfully able to log in during the two years I had the app.
No. I don't want your app either. Why can't you just abandon the foot long receipts?
"givin our 2 pence on their 2 cents" would be a good line--haha!!
Cargo means 'Freight' trains which means anything from livestock to lettuce.
But, why would anyone envy our "freight" trains? A well run cargo transportation system is invisible to the masses. Are they that bad in Europe?
Re: rude customer service, have you all ever watched Seinfeld? Soup Nazi: "No soup for you" LOLOLOL
Or Phoebe's evil sister from Friends and Mad About You, Ursula
I love the Soup Nazi😆. George Costanza places his order with his eyes lowered. LOL
@@pam1574 I worked 28 years in some very good hotels and restaurants, mostly as a cook. Soup Nazi is heroic. He's also just misunderstood. He suffers for his art. Jajajajaja
John Bowers
He is very misunderstood... that’s why I love him! 😊
@@johnbowers6258 YES!! I LOVE Ursula. She's so unapologetically uncaring and aloof.
Diners or greasy spoons here in NY and all owned by Greek people so the menu has a LOT of Greek food on it as well as traditional diner/American foods. Diners are a staple when your a teen or early 20s and go out for a night of drinking or clubbing - then you all just go to the diner to eat provably around 3-5 AM LOL
When you eventually go to Dallas, you have to try Dick’s Last Resort restaurant! The are purposely rude to everyone. It’s Hilarious!!
I'll never understand that reaction to awfulness.
Wear a tie
Lol. Sounds like a blast.
We have a "Dicks last Resort" in Indianapolis also! I have never been but I know people who have, I would love to go for the laughs alone!!
Excuse me, Ben, but if you haven't had Carolina bbq, you haven't had bbq...I've had both ....both great but Carolina bbq......mmmmmm
I love my free coffee refills here in the states and really miss them when traveling overseas :) Your public transportation is way better but your gas has always always been super expensive.
The great thing about American Passenger Trains is the cross country routes, like New York to California, Florida to Oregon, Any route up the west coast to Alaska... Any route going thru the Rocky Mts...So, I would say that makes us even.🙂🙂🙂
The giant receipt we think that's crazy also. I've heard people refer to it as a free copy of war and peace or emergency toilet paper.
Congrats Rod, you're the first to comment! Nice job! 🥇🎉
"It's just meat and sauce." Hmmmm, probably not winning any fans with that one.
I'm kinda shocked at the thought of truly rude servers. So what if they're not getting tipped, they're still getting paid for a job they're supposed to be doing.
Those receipts at CVS are annoying. Great pharmacy, though.
Drink refills - this is what Is known as bottomless cups. My uncle who is from England, was asked by a waitress, “would you like a refill on your coffee”? He said yes please. I told him, “you pay to breath in England”!
Kansas city has some of the best bbq in the country. Highly recommend Kansas city
Yesss!
And if you do a US BBQ tour, you have to try more than one place in KC. Joe's KC, Gates, Jack Stack, Arthur Bryants...
Yes! Joe’s KC BBQ - You have to go to the one in the old gas station.
