    I have a Vitus 979 I bought in 89 I put all Campy C Record on it,weighs 22 lbs with aerobar use to love doing hills on it ran a 21,19-13 gear cluster still have it but haven't ridden in years

    I've just rebuilt a 979 in raw aluminium like yours. I've had Corsa Record hubs built onto Mavic GP4 rims & DT steel spokes; Croce d'aune rear mech; Corsa Record brake levers & Cobalto callipers and chainset (53-39 because I'm nearly 60!); Chorus seat post ; 7 speed Synchro downtube shifters and Rolls saddle (brown). Look pedals and I'm trying to decide between Continental Giro or Vittoria Rally tubs (can't afford Corsa CX!!). Love looking at it... but getting the Synchro 7 to function perfectly eludes me... as it did the professional mechanics of the day. 😉👍

    Great video! I just recently rehabilitated my old Vitus 797 that I bought back in the early 1980s, To my surprise, the bike really flies. It's also a smooth and comfortable ride. I have it outfitted with vintage Campy components and the whole package is quite a joy to ride. If there's one downside to the old frame, it is that the bottom bracket flexes quite if not ridden with finesse. Otherwise, I can't get over how good this old bike is. Keep up the good work.

    Terrific video ! That Vitus Duralinox 979 looks to be in great condition , you're a lucky man. Back in the early 1980's a friend who I raced with and trained with had a sensational
    blue Vitus. Unfortunately one day when we were riding home from work together the top tube completely un ravelled, the tubing was so thin it was like tin foil. Nevertheless what a beautiful frame , I wish they would reproduce them now. No wonder they were such a revelation when first introduced , so far ahead of their time. Sean Kelly rode them in Paris Roubaix so they were pretty resilient as well. Really enjoying the videos and appreciate your expertise. 👍👍

    I've broken many carbon frames none from a crash, gave up on them. Back to metal. Steel Ritchey Road, Aluminum Spec. Diverge, aluminum Trek Crockett cross, Steel,Salsa Vaya. And an old favorite early 90s Specialized Allez aluminum. Trek Madone Project One carbon. Modern steel and aluminum has a nice ride and is dependable. I ride a lot of gravel and need bullet proof Equip.

    Pity they don't make an alloy fork disc frame bike with a decent weight now. Very interesting

    Vitus should have stuck with the 979 and refined it , but they were beautiful frames and seemed to work very well for the likes of Sean Kelly and riders of that era .

    Hi. I've just been gifted one of these. I'm not a road racing cyclist but I'm very excited. I've gone through a lot of damaged nerve pain from a car crash to get back on a bike after 18yrs. Id been joking that after all my hard work I deserved a yellow vest, then I found myself being gifted this bike, and read that the 979 was used by 6 teams in Tour de France!? Lol. Mine doesn't have a rear seat post bracket, just a chub screw hole. Does that mean it's an early model?.

      You can find out the year from the number under the bottom bracket!
