My Tip for Rookies, that helped me a lot at the beginning: I use hot cues und memory cues for the music preparation. I set the hot cues at the beginning of the song, of a build up, of the drop/chorus, of vocals, of breaks and saved loops. All categories of Phrases and the attached hot cues have their own colors. Then I set the memory cue points at the beginning and the end of every Phrase of a song.(I color good mix in/out points). At rekordbox I changed the settings to count the bars to the next cue point (memory cue), so that helped me a lot to exercise timing while mixing. And with a large music library I have always a good overview of the songs in my playlists and it’s giving assistance at song selection. The colored markers shows me what type of transition I probably can make with this song, even if I don’t remember the song so good 😂
This is the type of transitions that I started on and it has made me look and sound like a pro. This are amazing tricks to use and super easy. Love this man!
No one know how much time i spent watching other channels for edm mixing tricks nad egarly waiting for your video i am sure that it will help me a lot mixing my fav. Edm song better Thanks for alll the stufff you are really sooo helpfull for beginners Thanks once again 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@djcarlo You’re welcome, and thank you, I’ve just ordered a ddj 400 I’m waiting for it to arrive, so in the meantime I’m learning from your vids, so when I get my DJ controller I will have an idea of what’s going on, plus I’m a pianist, that’s how I’m into music.
I've been following all your courses, I bought a Numark platinum mixtrack FX just a few weeks ago and I love it. I can't scratch on it but whenever I upgrade I will be looking at your courses again so I can learn baby scratch! All your videos have been very helpful although I didn't really know where to start out I just kinda played around with my music.
This video helped me so much. I know I put it on another video but I'm very new to DJing (under 1 month) - and while I had to basically put several parts on repeat (specifically the part where to cue point because I was having difficulty identifying "where" they go) but once I "got it" I was transitioning in and out of tracks easily. Thank you again, DJ Carlo for all this information. It helps so much!😁
Does every DJ prepare tracks or is it possible to skip this? I personally don't prepare my tracks, just use 4-8 bar loops to get things on time and mixed smoothly
Terrible habit. That’s like acting in a movie without a script or singing a song without knowing all the lyrics. Being prepared keeps you away from trainwrecks.
Really good video, really interesting, nice visual effects. It help amater to rapidly climb the learning curve and enjoy djing! Thank you DJ Carlo!! :D
Just popping in to give you props on your work. Seen your story clip of how this vid took 11hrs to edit. Awesome final product and good luck with all your upcoming projects!
If you see this Carlo, Please do more videos on mixing hip hop. There just aren't enough videos out there on mixing hip hop and it is too difficult for beginners like me :(
@@djcarlo Also, I totally forgot to mention.... Thank you!! Your videos took me from a total noob to mixing with more confidence ;) Keep up the amazing work!
Carlo, I know you probably will not see this, but as it is summer and lockdown restrictions are lifting in the UK. I have practiced my DJ skills a lot and I am having an outdoor party soon! I want to change controllers because I have Numark Mixtrak Platinum (old version) and I have a tight budget. I can sell my games consoles and things for more money, but I wanted YOUR advice and what to buy next?
mmm it's really up to you and what you'll use it for the most. Check out my controller reviews on this channel and the links for the best controller for every budget
That was a very informative video! There is one more thing that is on my mind and that is how the dj's playing live sets on Ultra etc etc have properly done mashups ready with ad-libs like "3 2 1 Jump" or "Everybody Fucking Jump" and chorus's of different songs properly in sync with the song playing with only volume fader of a certain CD-J on full, they are not mixing anything just beat matching the new songs in and nothing else! How do we make those mashups?
Carlos I noticed you recommend DJ pools in many videos but all of them say it’s for professionals only so how do we get DJ edits without being a professional?
Can we beat jump from just where the chorus ends to the outro and at the same time start the intro of the next song - asking specifically for progressive tracks.
If you got a controller that lets you, back spinning the wheel can be a fun way to transition. Might not be exactly absolute beginner stuff but with a bit of practice its not hard to pull off. I like putting in a little backspin echo sometimes as well for a cool sound effect as well if I'm not mixing between 2 tracks at that time. So many cool things you can do. Like most things it just takes time to practice and play a bit and DJing can be really fun even if you are not trying to go pro. I like watching these videos as well as your fast mixes, I don't really do really fast mixes like that and do a lot of longer transitions but its really cool to see your skills as a quick mixer, im not that fast
@@djcarlo Do you backspin the jog wheel when you transition out of any songs? I watch your mixes but I'm not sure if you have done this much. That's possible I'd say! Just know your tracks inside out
What song is the one used for the first minutes?! I absolutely love it!! 😍

Does the very first clip of transitioning sound so good because they are also both in key? 9B it looks like.
I'd say so! Mixing in Key adds an extreme layer of smoothness to mixes

Do I have to use a radio edit? Or can I do without them?
I'd recommend going for the ones with extended intros. Using the radio edits, especially for EDM songs, makes mixing trickier than it should be.

You have to count the beats backwards from the cue point at 4 seconds in. You have 8 beats of music (starting at Cue Point A at 0) before the vocals kick in (Cue Point B at 4 seconds). It's all in the beat counting bud :)
