A wonderful discussion. The idea of the presence of the past provides much food for thought. Since we are all shaped by the past as interconnected and interdependent beings, our goodness is not entirely our own. We are indebted not only to our ancestors, but also the collective goodness and the sacrifices made by all people who have lived in the past. Goodness is much easier in a good environment. It then follows that our evil is also not entirely our own. It calls for reflection on our way of being in the world and how our actions will influence not only the present, but future generations, since we are connected in both time and space. What are we uploading into the morphic field that affects everyone, now and in the future?

Thank you for these interviews Mr. Freke! Dr. Sheldrake's book "Morphic Resonance" made quite an impression on me. I have a rather involved metaphysics website where I feature a chapter dedicated to his thesis. I listen to nearly every talk of his I come upon. I am very pleased he mentioned Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. What a philosophical genius, and some of the thoughts conveyed here are similar to those of his expressed in "The Phenomena of Man." If I may suggest, however, I think it is important to avoid when possible, in these circles anyway, thinking and speaking of spiritual concepts causally. The expansion of consciousness contracts spacetime and, conversely, the contraction of spacetime expands consciousness, and simultaneously. To open-mindedly and open-heartedly reach out, just mentally even, to a person, place or thing anywhere, anyplace, anytime will lead to a mutual spiritual resonance, a knowing, a miracle even.
I had the idea recently that the biblical story of eating the apple of the tree of knowledge and the subsequent throwing out from the garden of eden was/is an allegory for the human mind having lost connection to or awareness of the morphic field in which the rest of consciousness resides by getting lost in the mind noise of compulsive thinking.
Once we start interpretting bible stories as deep allegories, we're stepping away from evidence based truth into foolish territory. The writers of Genesis did not respect women and certainly not children's lives. It's pretty unlikely they were thinking of that complex metaphor when they couldn't even acknowledge that women weren't property.

Wonderful interview!!! It's likely that in the future we will have images of St. Rupert. I've watched several of his interviews and talks but this one went deeper. I agree with the unfolding concept of universal consciousness and that we obviously have reached a new stage in human civilization. We're learning to think more in terms of humanity rather than a particular race, tribe or cultural group. A good metaphor is to think of the history of man as a series of days, with each day having a sunrise and seasons until the sun rises once again. We might call one sunrise Monday and another Tuesday, but it's the same sun. In the terms of religion we could see spiritual sunrises likened to the appearance of Jesus, Buddha, Zoroaster, Muhammed, etc., where spiritual lessons needed for each of these days are absorbed by humanity in order to bear particular fruits of the spirit and civilization. You may not be familiar with a more recent Prophet named Baha'u'llah who appeared in Persia in the 19th century, was persecuted and exiled ultimately as a prisoner to Palestine. He claimed to be one of those Suns which have appeared in history and announced this new day in which mankind would become united as one, that world peace would be established, that a truly planetary and spiritual civilization would unfold and we would learn a new habit, as Sheldrake might say, of how to live together, of seeing the religions of the world as the unfoldment of one reality. His teaching is that the unknowable reality of God is not only intimately involved with our individual lives and the lessons we learn, but is also involved with our social/spiritual evolution through the periodic disruption of society through the influences of Prophets. Baha'u'llah's son, named Abdu'l-Baha, actually visited London and England around 1911 to help the new English Baha'i community understand more about Baha'u'llah's teachings. After WWI, Abdu'l-Baha was actually knighted by the British government for his work to provide food for the hungry in Palestine at the time the British took control. People who give the example of riding a bicycle and say "You don't think about it at all" should perhaps clarify what they mean by "think". I suspect we always "think" when riding a bicycle, just not for as long as when learning to ride. Levels of awareness shifting from 'foreground' to 'background' does not mean they're no longer there 'at all'. We often find we have to use analogies to express ideas, some ideas are little more than analogy and observation. Language is a blunt instrument when talking about consciousness. I can understand why scientists may resort to mathematics in attempts to be unequivocal.
I would say everything is part of the creativity of the Kosmos. And I think whether something is good or not depends on the criteria applied. In my own opinion I think technology and AI are for the most part amazing blessings with potential dangers.
It's a pity that Mr. Freke mixed his microphone at a few levels higher than the level of his distinguished guest. But at least his outbursts of YES! show he has humbly given his guest more than average grades for reaffirming his own thoughts with such dedication and accuracy. We will be expecting a new work shortly from Dr. Sheldrake with a glowing dedication to Mr. Freke for showing the way! Cough.
Brilliant, thanks. Maybe we need to prove we see the same person twice in order to believe in a pre existing morphogentic field. And maybe i missing something but we can only know/be now. So evolution of a past history of species sounds odd. ...we cant create a single thought or sentance either, can we. So is manifesting possible. 🤔 Really delightful pace though, thank you both. Xxx
33:19 There is certainly a fundamental difference between the modern scientific man and ancient man with their attitudes to the world around us. Whilst the former views the world as an 'it' for the latter it was a 'Thou'. And this goes beyond our 'animistic' conception. This 'Thou' is sui generis. For the ancients of Mesopotamia and Egypt 'Thou' was understood as we understand other living beings today. This is not animistic. Great discussion one day it shall be a popular discussion among many people :-)

Alpha Omega Missing the center the journey God created us, think magnets Two negative will repel push away So it does and we forget who created us Yet we feel pulled to conscious to know we are one with source In our travels back to negative attractive to positive We expand the universe we live in
It appears to me that an inherent attribute of "conscious minds" is to communicate with other "minds" for introduction, interaction, relation and perhaps collective conscious evolution and elevation If this is a reasonable view then we can explain why the One Mind would reveal himself, not only through physical signs in creation, but also through message communications. Messages from the Mind are carried by specially enabled mediums or messengers (which is the meaning of malakhs or angels). They pervade throughout nature and may be responsible for intelligent codes we see within it. As a language capable species, we have a greater opportunity to receive intelligent communications from the Mind through such message bearing mediums.
This idea of consciousness of sun and planets... I don't get it. Are they conscious LIKE us? In different way? What's the difference? There's no difference? The question "what does it mean to be conscious?" remained unanswered in my opinion. But... great interview.
I wasn't paying any mind to the time clock but my eyes widened when Tim mentioned the two revelations he had about life in the 'moment' namely 1.) that it is constantly 'manifesting a new possibility' that's when my years perked up; and 2.) " It contained everything that had happened before and the past hadn't gone anywhere." It brought my mind to the synchronicity of PEPE memes. Pepe is a green frog which became the racially androgynous symbol of the alt-right. It is a movement that emerged not from the racist right but from an anonymity of the self on a message board where the only identify was a number assigned to a user's posts. Users would rejoice whenever a poster scored a 'get' that is to say posted a message whose number had double digits in it. (the double digit 77 became the most-prized 'get' ) So you can imagine the uproar that arose when Hillary denounced as 'racist' a green frog whose rise had NOTHING to do with racism. Then by chance someone found a 1980's recording of an Italian disco song by the band P.E.P.E and standing for "Point Emerging Probably Entering." which rather sounds like your description of moment as "constantly manifesting a new possibility". The artwork for the song shows a green frog holding a magic wand at the end of a spiral. It is linked in lore to The Holy Grail Spiral of Life (935-Qkk.) a map of Time's arrow reflecting both 'new possibilities' and 'points emerging'. After my ears perked up, I paused the current recording and I played it back a few times before ever noticing that the timestamp immediately between the two points you made about 'the moment' of now was at 9:35. I have yet to finish the video but reallly interesting so far! www.quora.com/How-can-we-make-the-world-s-mainstream-professional-mathematicians-understand-so-easily-the-ever-simplest-ideas-in-so-elementary-mathematics-that-never-require-any-kind-of-peer-review/answer/Prince-Blake-1

I watched and listened to Rupert when he met Krishnamurti in the 80's... He was as dumbfounded as the rest of us at what K had to say. But it isn't about K. K isn't important but what he was SAYING was and still is!. To hell with K! His life, his accent, his privilege, his upbringing, his so-called special-ness, his aristocracy, his mystical nature... I couldn't give two hoots!.... That is not the fricking point (sc'use the Irish). That was NOT the point. It was well beyond that. Rupert knew it then, in the 80's, as he knows it now... K was speaking the truth, pure and simple. I am sick to death of seeking the truth... when it is sitting there right in front of me!
The ground of all being simply loves all being. That’s why we have evil and absurdity also. It’s no different than us creating something like Grand Theft Auto. From the point of view of the players in the game itself it would be absurd. But those who created it and choose to play it know why. They want a safe legal place to do crazy stuff that they can’t do in “real life”.
Spiritually speaking, the first question itself starts with the wrong assumptions: "We are heading towards death". Unfortunately, that statement is based on error. Who is this "we" or "I' which is really heading to "death"? What actually dies? For clarification... ...please contemplate... "what happens to this "I" which is heading towards death... under General Anesthesia?"
Learning even one thing takes a long time, so, in order for a plant to have the same cognitive responses as me I would have to wait billions of years for that particular life form to evolve to the level I have, and yes, I am saying that I used to be a plant myself, billions of years ago.
I*Is the universe conscious?* - I can't believe that the jury is still out on this one. Why are we over complicating everything ? Draw me a line that separates you from the universe . If you can't do that , it means that you're an inseparable part pf a bigger thing , the Universe. And since we are conscious at various levels , it is more than obvious that the Universe we are all part off is conscious. And not only conscious but simultaneously conscious in billion ways . Is there something that doesn't make sense in this proposal ?
yep - that seems clear. The question then is ... given the universe is conscious through you and me ... it is also conscious as a whole? Because that is a different thing.
@@TimFreke1 *...it is also conscious as a whole?...* - I would think so , I mean given everything we think we know so far ... Your question is in the same category with is a nation or the society conscious or is it just the individuals ? I know, the old problem , The Combination Problem for Panpsychism . My answer at this moment in time (subject to change ) is that with a higher level of consciousness there must be visible or noticeable emerging properties. Can anyone honestly say that there are no such properties noticeable in groups of people ? I mean simple being a part of a group changes the mentality and behaviour quite drastically more often than not. Starting from the smallest group , two people , a normal family , the signs of people functioning for the greater good of the group is visible without a doubt. Isn't a family just a higher form of consciousness ? And if it is , can we apply the same principle to a nation , a race ......
@@TimFreke1 *...Individuals are parts of a society and that influences how they act....* - In order for the *individual to really exist there must be a separation . Did you find the place to draw the line that separates the individual from the universe ? *But does a society have subjective experience?* - Does it have to ? A cube or a sphere , as 3 D objects only appear as a line when intersecting a 2 D plane. The line is just the subjective experience from a 2 D perspective . What we call "subjective experience " may be just a specific perspective and not actually a pure definition of consciousness. Does the ocean have a subjective experience of being an ocean or is it just the individual molecules or individual waves ? How does it look ,from the molecular perspective, the subjective experience of a wave ? Or from a cellular perspective of a neuron the subjective experience of existence as an organ, a brain ? I would say unimaginable not non-existent.
Consider this hypothesis. 1 million years from now human science will have evolved to the point where we can actually fabricate an entire universe. We can extract the essence of our own being and seed this new universe with that essence such that it can incarnate into the life-forms in that universe. What shape will those life-forms take? Well, we are comfortable with our current shapes. But maybe we want wings and gills, or many arms - or all of those in various life-times. But we lose our memories of this past universe, and can only infer from logic and math that such must have existed. Now consider that this IS actually the universe we are in now and that it was made in a similar form to the previous universe. Yes, in such a scenario the highest forms we can find will likely resemble in many ways the original form of the creators. Perhaps 1 million years from now, we will have reduced the number of bodies just to 1 single body in which all our minds reside. We do this to concentrate the thinking power of all those minds, so that we can actually compute how this new universe will operate. Will our new god-body be similar to our human bodies? It does not have to be. But its most likely going to be easier for us to operate if we are familiar with its human form.
So... god is love who wanted to experience what love really is, by extending into a void without any love in it and that polarization became a kind of “electro magnetic field “ With a directional flow towards love or realization of god... a field consisting of infinite number of quanta of egocentric concious points set in a matrix of laws of physics, that through evolution or creativity, finds out all the possible ways to create even more possibilities to build in time a bridge back to god, who is love. And love is connectedness and all-inclusive... in a Way - gravity is a force, that creates... everything else... it calls the lonely particle to a gathering of manny particles and the different qualities of different kinds of particles, can work together to build more and more complexity and more posibility, where floating alone in space there are not much to do but to float towards some gravity...

I had an unbelievably lucid dream not long ago where I found myself in oddly interrogative consultation with what appeared to be a yogi who after much prodding finally relented to my barrage of questions about the purpose or point of human lives and human lifespans. There was no verbal exchange per se, but more like amazingly refined concepts weaved within intensely descriptive and definitive vignettes with physical representation tgat left zero room for interpretation or misunderstanding irregardless of duration was the cultivation of the willingness to die. Not from the place of "woe is me" or in outrunning or avoiding pain or sidestepping loss, failure or fear, but of the willingness to die despite an apex of human circumstances (realized goals, pinnacle achievements, a vast wealth of any conceivable medium from monetary goods to mortal ideal) but because you've exhausted what he described as the "8 desires" and as such have come to the "end of yourself." This is absolutely integral quality that can only be cultivated in the body, and without which there can be no further momentum.
The earth as my subconscious, the sun as my subconscious, the universe as my subconscious, I will live forever, and I hope you too, I will never be alone, there is a lot of subconscious to go around, unlimited and perpetual forever and everlasting, everlasting came first, this universe is infant, but waxing not waning, wax on wane of.
I don't think there is a creator God. I suggest God is not where the universe has come from but where the process of evolution is going to. The universe is flowering into God if you like. Conscious Oneness. A Being of Love. Check out other videos on my channel for more on this idea.

Excellent interview Tim. So proud of you getting this format going. You are talented interviewer. I thought you would be. Bet you were so excited after the interview. Isn't it always like that? The more you explore of your self, the more you give of your self, the more you recieve in return. Very cool how consciousness works. Now, can't wait to hear you with Rupert Spira. That should be wonderful for you, and him. Keep going brother.😊
Your support was key John. Glad you like. Rupert Spira was arranged but cancelled. I hope he will still do it at a later date.
@@TimFreke1 Rupert Spira! Yes Tim, that would be brilliant.
I really enjoyed your discussion. Thanks for sharing. Very insightful!
I love how smart people call tripping balls "those experiences" (21:54)
People who give the example of riding a bicycle and say "You don't think about it at all" should perhaps clarify what they mean by "think". I suspect we always "think" when riding a bicycle, just not for as long as when learning to ride. Levels of awareness shifting from 'foreground' to 'background' does not mean they're no longer there 'at all'. We often find we have to use analogies to express ideas, some ideas are little more than analogy and observation. Language is a blunt instrument when talking about consciousness. I can understand why scientists may resort to mathematics in attempts to be unequivocal.
Is the developmnent of technololgy and A.I. part of the evolution/creativity of the cosmos? And is it to our benefit or for its own?
Really delightful pace though, thank you both. Xxx
I love rupe
Wow wouldn't mind trying one of those Franciscan fry ups.

Great discussion one day it shall be a popular discussion among many people :-)
Hi Tim, an interview with sufi teacher Llewellyn Vaughan Lee would also be interesting, i think he shares similar views to yours in terms of co-Creationism
Good idea. I am having a conversation with a US Sufi teacher called Kabir soon.
Good
I get the feeling if someone would disprove some idea of Rupe’s instead of getting pissed like Dawkins he’d just find something new to explore
See my comments above re a book..
Sheldrake has been spewing his pseudoscience hogwash since the early 1980's and has not understood that he has been debunked a zillion times! A bonehead!
I would enjoy seeing Richard Dawkins getting pissed on hearing Rupert Sheldrake, as he is usually in the provocateur role himself, Jimyblues.
GeoCoppens nope other astrophysicists are coming to similar conclusions
coreycox2345 Rupert was on Dawkins show - Dawkins just wanted sound bites to ridicule . That violated Rupe's contract stating he would have time to express his views. I love Dawkins but he can be a bitch - wish Rupe and Hitch coulda conversed
This is one liners to very big questions, but if a single cell in your body is conscious, why not the sun?
What's before "old"? What's bigger than "enormous"?
Alpha Omega
Missing the center the journey
God created us, think magnets
Two negative will repel push away
So it does and we forget who created us
Yet we feel pulled to conscious to know we are one with source
In our travels back to negative attractive to positive
We expand the universe we live in
It appears to me that an inherent attribute of "conscious minds" is to communicate with other "minds" for introduction, interaction, relation and perhaps collective conscious evolution and elevation If this is a reasonable view then we can explain why the One Mind would reveal himself, not only through physical signs in creation, but also through message communications.
A few bumps, but otherwise pretty cool. The poor guy tries to rise to meet Rupert but Rupert is light years ahead and above. Love Rupert
Me too
This idea of consciousness of sun and planets... I don't get it. Are they conscious LIKE us? In different way? What's the difference? There's no difference? The question "what does it mean to be conscious?" remained unanswered in my opinion. But... great interview.
I agree with you
I wasn't paying any mind to the time clock but my eyes widened when Tim mentioned the two revelations he had about life in the 'moment' namely 1.) that it is constantly 'manifesting a new possibility' that's when my years perked up; and 2.) " It contained everything that had happened before and the past hadn't gone anywhere." It brought my mind to the synchronicity of PEPE memes.

Its easy to see how religions evolve.
The truth i see in front of me right now is that I love you Ray.
"what happens to this "I" which is heading towards death... under General Anesthesia?"
i don't know which version of aristotle he is reading - all i read on him said he was atheist
What if things that we think are conscious only has a role to play for the observer!
Learning even one thing takes a long time, so, in order for a plant to have the same cognitive responses as me I would have to wait billions of years for that particular life form to evolve to the level I have, and yes, I am saying that I used to be a plant myself, billions of years ago.
Y'all need some René Girard

I know, the old problem , The Combination Problem for Panpsychism
.
@@thrdel Individuals are parts of a society and that influences how they act. But does a society have subjective experience? I suggest not.
"collapse of the wave function" is a bad misnomer - its a statistical probability, it can be more easily expressed as a sinusoidal function
Consider this hypothesis.
1 million years from now human science will have evolved to
the point where we can actually fabricate an entire universe.
We can extract the essence of our own being and seed this
new universe with that essence such that it can incarnate
into the life-forms in that universe.
What shape will those life-forms take? Well, we are comfortable
with our current shapes. But maybe we want wings and gills,
or many arms - or all of those in various life-times.
But we lose our memories of this past universe, and can only
infer from logic and math that such must have existed.
Now consider that this IS actually the universe we are in now
and that it was made in a similar form to the previous universe.
Yes, in such a scenario the highest forms we can find will
likely resemble in many ways the original form of the creators.
Perhaps 1 million years from now, we will have reduced the
number of bodies just to 1 single body in which all our
minds reside. We do this to concentrate the thinking power
of all those minds, so that we can actually compute how
this new universe will operate.
Will our new god-body be similar to our human bodies?
It does not have to be. But its most likely going
to be easier for us to operate if we are familiar
with its human form.
So... god is love who wanted to experience what love really is, by extending into a void without any love in it and that polarization became a kind of “electro magnetic field “ With a directional flow towards love or realization of god... a field consisting of infinite number of quanta of egocentric concious points set in a matrix of laws of physics, that through evolution or creativity, finds out all the possible ways to create even more possibilities to build in time a bridge back to god, who is love.

12:05 JESUS CHRIST!
Good clip but cannot answer this question of the purpose of life. Read the book The Human Self and Allah by Parwez.. evidence based discussion.
Not from the place of "woe is me" or in outrunning or avoiding pain or sidestepping loss, failure or fear, but of the willingness to die despite an apex of human circumstances (realized goals, pinnacle achievements, a vast wealth of any conceivable medium from monetary goods to mortal ideal) but because you've exhausted what he described as the "8 desires" and as such have come to the "end of yourself."
This is absolutely integral quality that can only be cultivated in the body, and without which there can be no further momentum.
Sheldrake's been hitting the media hard this last year. Probably trying to get all the interviews he can in before he's interred at the funeral home.
Why must there be a God/creator?
I don't think there is a creator God. I suggest God is not where the universe has come from but where the process of evolution is going to. The universe is flowering into God if you like. Conscious Oneness. A Being of Love. Check out other videos on my channel for more on this idea.
@@TimFreke1 Thanks for your reply.
It's all programmed. Consciousness is programmed into the universe.

God can be the source and destination false dichotomy ?
Yes - but God becomes different (realised) through the journey. That's the point for me. Primal Spirit as Potentiality to Transcendent Spirit as Love.

They both have something important to contribute scientifically I agree.
