It was mentioned in the video that the high 120 proof of both these Cask Strengths may be over-powering nuanced flavors.
One thing not mentioned is that both these bottles come in lower-proof versions called "Distiller's Collection": Rebel Distiller's Collection and Ezra Brooks Distiller's Collection. Both Distiller's Collections are single barrel store picks. The Rebel Distiller's is 113 proof and the Ezra Distiller's is 107 proof.
Where I'm at, the Ezra Distiller's is fairly common in the larger liquor stores but the Rebel Distiller's is uncommon.

I see both of these store pick bottles on the shelf at Binny’s in Illinois, but have not pulled the trigger on either yet. I agree with you that store picks are almost always fantastic. Russell Reserve, case in point.

The best part about store picks, whether they're good, bad, or amazing, is that they're a one-time, here-and-its-gone experience. Thanks for watching!

Had the Rebel Cask Strength at Lux Row back in Jan. To be a cask strength it wasn't as hot as I expected. However, it also didn't have the extensive flavors I expected.
Question, would asking a store owner if their select was hand picked or just an offer taken up on be considered rude?
Thanks for the content. Enjoyed the review of both.

That's a great question. I think it depends on your relationship with the store and how you phrase the question. I have asked stores before "who does your barrel picks?" and then will purchase depending on the answer. Thanks for watching!

Well, if you have ever walked into a Tandy Leather store, you would know exactly what I get on the nose and it comes through on the palate. Leather is more of a smell, but it can be in the flavor slightly to me. I love the Rebel distillers series. cask strength is where it is at. Thanks for the good content!
