They have scavenger by default, high movement speed, high vision and stealth in trees, with a castable stealth. They're quite expensive, and micro intensive but players do sometimes find uses for them. I think this is more Thena trying something out rather than going with a strong build order since he avoided most of the usual targets.
The patch heavily favors fast high damage units due to buildings being so squishy.
