That 9 string guitar is impressive. Completely unique. Grammy award winner. I saw him at the bar in Las Vegas at the Psycho festival and wanted to say hi but I had only downloaded his music from pirate bay so I felt a little guilty and didn't.

@@mastod0n1 I believe it was the top 3 three strings corded and the lower 3 not. I have always been told that corded strings don't mix well with distortion. I know that lower frequencies don't work so well with harmony, better with higher ones.

Almost 4 years later and I still watch this video all the time lol I could NEVER get sick of High on Fire, never. They are one of my all time favorite bands and Matt Pike is one of my biggest idols \m/

This should be preserved in the National Archives for single most shredding guitar solo performed by an American.
There are some bands that sound great in the studio and when you see them live you think "what the fuck happened?". These guys have mastered both studio and live performances. Absolutely awesome.
By the way, the guitar is a custom made First Act that has 9 strings. The top 3 strings are doubled up like a 12 stringer. Neat-o.

I have just recently gotten into these guys. I first heard them on liquid metal. I bought the new album and I can't take it out of the cd player. I love it front to back. This is my favorite song from the album and it was great to see it live. Thanks for posting it. Fantastic quality too.

There are extremely few songs out there as goddamned fucking huge as this one. The first few that come to mind are Blood & Thunder by Mastodon, Flying Whales by Gojira, Adrift in the Ocean by Yob, Blackwater Park by Opeth, and Bleed by Meshuggah. Anyone who has similar modern metal (as in post-2000) recommendations, feel free to reply.

High on fire for me is kinda like Motorhead met Slayer, a healthy dash of punk rock thrown in for good measure.
Not really sure if Matt is really even influenced by punk but it comes out in the songs, the same way it does with Motorhead songs, they weren't punk either, but they are loved by punks all over and always have been.
