I saw Sam McGee do a solo performance at an outdoor festival at Horse Pens 40 in Alabama a few months before was killed in tractor accident. He sat in a cane bottom chair on the stage, dressed in a white shirt and tie and played a lot of good traditional music with his great thumb-picking style. Glad I saw him.

He was a real pioneer of lead guitar, Merle Travis especially was influenced by Sam's playing
