They were so so fun. I heard Scott say in a recent interview that they sang together every single day for a year to keep improving. Talent, hard work, not ever giving up, and great sense of humor. I admire their lack of ego and working together.
Loved that you caught that - I gotta big duck! I really love these older videos. The fact that they had lower production and less tuning and still sounded so incredible is a big plus for me, a fellow singer. They seemed to be having so much fun in those days, and being a bit goofy was part of it. The staccato harmony in the middle is amazing and so hard to do. And all their thrift shop outfits - especially Kirstie's Pikachu at the end, are great. Thanks for the great reaction!
They seemed to be having a good time making this video! Even Avi seemed to be enjoying himself big time! I like a lot of these earlier live videos better than a lot of their more produced ones. They just seem so laid back, having fun & living the dream as a "family"!
"Lower production quality" 😆 It's zero production... they filmed these with Mitch's iPad. And, yeah, PTX is entirely PG-13, if that. Superfruit was a bit more risqué and Scott and Mitch occasionally slipped on livestreams when they forgot which feed they were on (Mitch: "Oops! I'm using language.") But that's really about it. The PTX songs are all kid-(and Kevin)-friendly.

They did a lot of raw from the couch videos back then. I love them since, it truly shows how talented they are. No studio mastering/mixing, and they sound great. It's what it would sound like if you were in the room with them.

They made RUclips videos to entertain their fans and to develop a loyal following. It worked. Their "Couch" videos did not need production nor big budgets. Their vocals, arranging skills and personalities were enough. They got a much better deal when they signed with their label because they already had a big, loyal following. I'm Sub 540. Suggestion, tag your videos with "Pentatonix" and/or "PTX" so that they will come up easier for us to find.

They were determined to be big and so they all had apartments down the hall from one another and would film mv’s and record music in Avi’s (the old bass) apartment. Mv’s would be done low budget in the kitchen or in this case living room and music would be recorded in the closet. Flash forward 9-10 years and here they are with 3 Grammy’s, millions sold, millions of fans, sold out shows and two headline performances at Madison Square Garden!!

There is a special place in my heart for the early couch 🛋 videos. Early PTX is magical and something precious. Though they now can afford amazing production quality and are only getting better, I miss the come up vibes a bit.
Yeah, the coach from Bohemian Rhapsody was inspired by these early videos. They got dropped by their big label, and did alot of good stuff on that coach! Glad to see you enjoy this one so much. 😀
Their cover of Starships also slides past all the MF in the original song. On the Superfruit vlogs, they put a strawberry over their mouth in post production if the say a “bad” word. In one video Scott made a funny joke and Mitch said “you can’t say that”. Scott responded that there was no strawberries over his mouth.
They've matured and learned a lot since this one was made, but the potential was there for sure! Superfruit (Mitch and Scott's channel) is much more R rated. Superfruit's content is less family friendly! Would love for your to check that out next. Superfruit's Hip Hop Goes Broadway 1 & 2. On the Sing-off, they changed the words to a song because of Kevin's religious beliefs. They were too explicit. The group had no problem with this. That is respect for your for each other.
