- I have been Fly Fishing the Deschutes River in Oregon. I camped at a couple different spots along the river and it has just been too hot for fishing . I think for about a month now I’ve been dealing with temperatures around 100 almost every day. It has not been fun
Hi, my name is John and I’m 69 years old live in full-time out of my jeep Cherokee XJ for five years now living the dream.
 Buy me a beer. 🍺

Beautiful scenery! Love the nature sounds, as if I'm there. Awesome!
Thanks Sheile. I am putting the sound in to make it as real as possible.
Sweet 🤘
Thanks, Glenn 😁
Johnny boy you are living the life. That chicken looked good. Stay safe my friend
Hey Alex, that chicken was amazing as always. Lol
Super awesome video thanks
Thanks man. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
John you’re the man, FISH ON
Thanks man one fish on
Just back from a weeklong Colorado river rafting trip in the grand canyon. Thank God for our river guides who whipped up amazing meals daily. Keep kicking ass brother!! Timmy C Arizona
@@TimmyCramer sounds like a fun trip. I am not kicking ass, but the weather is kicking my ass. Lol
Thanks for sharing your insights to happiness. You're right in so many ways. I take long hikes in the White Mountains about once every 5 days. For now that keeps me as in balance as possible. Try to stay cool.
Hey Paul being an out nature definitely helps. But he spelled definitely broke today. It was 47° while I was fishing this morning and it felt so good..
@overthehillandoverthemount2925 47 that's awesome. A huge relief from the heat. I can't handle hot weather at all. If the temp is 85, I'm physically and mentally miserable 😆
Was on the Deschutes with family a few years ago. Didn't fly fish then..... maybe next time. Thanks! Too hot, at least you brought the good beverages.
@@llucq1 I always got a good cold beer in the fridge. I think I’m gonna pop one open now.. lol
nice work John, hopefully you find that sweet zone where its not too hot and not too cold soon
@@cargotrailerkenny hey Kenny, I’m hoping it’s gonna cool off soon. Been dealing with crazy heat for over a month.
Greetings. Beautiful Oregon fishing adventure. Nice video. Thanks.
Thanks man. I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a good adventure, but I don’t wanna do that adventure again. Lol
Yep, I agree with you John, it's way to hot everywhere, I can't stand hot weather, that's why I don't fish in the summer time. Looking forward to FALL! enjoyed watching. 👍
Hey Jim, I’m glad you enjoyed it. My five years living full-time on the road This has been my worst year for crazy weather and lousy fishing.
Hang in there John..your cool even in this heat...Oh,be sure n filter n boil your water or you'll get Descutes...ha....peace!
@@kurtlober7250 hey Kurt, I always filter my water from the streams. So you think I’m cool. 🤷♂️😎
The difference between the water below Pelton Dam and the water above Bend is amazing. If you want to avoid rafters, and enjoy a quiet day of fishing? Above Bend is the place to go. But if you want to hook into some big wild 'Redsides' that are like freight trains? Below the dam is the water you want.
Personally I like them both. There's some nice brown trout above Bend, and I always enjoy the high desert. But those 'Redsides' are amazing!
So many fish... so little time.
@@oregonpatriot1570 yes I know that river is an amazing river to fish but with all those 100 degree days this weather kick my ass and I guess it wasn’t good for the fish. I’m in Montana now and it was about 103° today. This crazy heat spell is everywhere.
Those kind of temperatures are 'sit under a shade tree and watch the river go by' temperatures.
Enjoy Montana!
Great video buddy! Living the dream!
Hey Kurt, thanks, I wasn’t living the dream in Oregon. Just too damn hot.
Were I where you were, I would have headed to the Olympic Peninsular or over to the coastal ranges, the fishing is good, some salmon are beginning to show up and steelhead are also available, not to mention cutthroat and rainbows and it is pretty much always cooler.
I was thinking about doing that, but I just wanted to get out of Oregon. I could not take the heat and I could not take the attitude of the people in Oregon. People were not friendly in Oregon.
Time to move on brother. I'm sure Idoho will treat you better. Like the video...especially the cooking part...try more of that, eh.
I made it to Idaho
Speaking John’s words of wisdom, let it be. What a beautiful River John. If the people would only match that beauty we’d live in a perfect world. Man i can’t believe NJ is above Oregon 😂😂. Cheers buddy!
@@stevezeppieri hey Steve the people in Oregon are a lot worse than the people in New Jersey. In New Jersey, people don’t make eye contact but if you talk to him, they are friendly, but that’s definitely not the case in Oregon. A couple days ago I was in the high Desert of Washington state and it was 110° in the shade. This heat spell sucks.
@@overthehillandoverthemount2925 it’s been unbearable here back east. It was the hottest June I could ever remember and this month is absolutely disgusting. John we used to have “heat waves.” Now every day is the same disgustingness. A nice cold beer helps but come on already mother nature, give us a break
I lived in Oregon from 1980 till 2013. I lived in the Portland area to begin with, then Central Oregon, then the coast. Unfortunately, the character of the state has changed dramatically due to an influx of people from "another place" who have caused such a divide that half the state now wants to become part of Idaho! I hope that does happen for those good people. I stay away from the Willamette Valley, and the Bend area, but anywhere that mindset manifests you will find people unwilling to engage you on any level. It kills me to see such a beautiful place become this way. You will still find good people in the rural places. Also, start fishing with worms and you will attract a better cut of people, LOL. The Crooked River is a place you would like, but it won't be cool right now.
I did go through Bend and sisters and I drove right past Smith rocks, which I really wanted to hike around, but it was 104° there. I am definitely not impressed with that area. Last year when I was up in Canada, everybody there was just so so nice. Next year, I’m hoping to spend about three months there.
Are you going to make into Montana this summer?
@@Cabmaker I am on the Coeur d’Alene river now in Idaho and in a couple days I’ll be driving into Montana for about a week then back into Idaho for another week or two then back into Montana to explore more fishing.
Hope that AC works in the XJ so at least you can cool.off while driving
The air conditioning is not working, I just have to add Freon to it. I’m not big on AC and if it’s hot, I’d rather drive with the window open.
The Lower Deschutes is my favorite river to fish in Oregon, but not the best place to be in a heat wave.
@@flyfishingwithphil7676 hey Phil I have been hanging out in Oregon for about four weeks and it seems like every day the temperatures were around 90 to 100°. All this heat kind of takes your mojo away from fishing. I had a lot of hopes for that river, but it wasn’t in the cards.
You are on fire today. Yea.. Oregon.. hmmm.. too bad.
@@robertscranton8293 hey Robert, I’m in Idaho right now and I’m so happy. I am not in Oregon.
It’s Oregon , it’s what you get ! Go st joe river idaho
@@michaelide9380 hey Michael. Lol you will never see me back in Oregon again. Five years ago, the Saint Joe River was an awesome place to fish, but it’s got overpopulated and too popular. The Saint Joe is a river. I will never go back to. I am on the Coeur d’Alene river right now and it’s the most crowded I’ve ever seen it. I will probably head to Kelly Creek.
Sounds like the lesson is don’t bring the camera if you want to catch fish!
I think there’s something to that
My guess is people weren’t being very welcoming to you because they assume you’re homeless.
That’s definitely not it. I have been around a lot of people that did not know the Jeep I live in and they were all the same. If they see my jeep, they know I don’t live in Oregon and they seem to not like that. I have been to almost every state in the US and I’ve never seen so many arrogant people as in Oregon.
