  • More fun with 3D Printing! This time we have a digital sundial. You read that right. It's a sundial that gives you the time in a digital format! No power required. Just our good pal the sun!
    To watch the creator explain it and show you how it works, visit his site at:
    www.mojoptix.c...
    You can find the STL files to print this yourself at:
    www.thingivers...
    Remember to download the correct one for your location (southern vs northern hemisphere). I had to print it in 2 parts because my print bed wasn't big enough. Then download whichever accessories you need to mount it. (There are other mounts that other people have designed. Some that don't need a jar at all.) I only used the connector and top part. I drilled holes into a jar and bolted the top part onto the lid. Filled the jar with sand and screw the lid (with top part attached) on, and then used a long screw with washers and a butterfly nut 9for adjustability) to connect to the connector part.
    Have Fun!

      Hahahaha. I would agree, however, I don't think this PLA will last more than 4 years :)

    I have a problem after print , how do i remove support in the 3d model , could you help me pls?

    • @JoeDuong
      @JoeDuong  2 года назад +1

      You shouldn't need supports if you rotate it flat. Also, I don't think you should even use supports, especially if the supports go up into grid part of the print. There are a lot of small strands so if any supports are touching it, it would very likely break off those strands removing the supports!

      It should point the same way as a regular sundial. So north if you're in the northern hemisphere and south if you're in the southern hemisphere. Use the actual time to calibrate :)

    How can your sundial match clock time when they only agree 4 times each year? Ever heard of the equation of time? Ever heard the fact that location in your time zone has to play a part in how you interpret what your sundial says? Come on, man.

    • @Scinester
      @Scinester 5 месяцев назад

      It's not supposed to match clock time exactly. It's supposed to give you the approximate time based on the sun's position like any other sun dial. The only plus of this one is that it's in 20 minute intervals instead of an entire hour.
      Also you would have to adjust it manually 4 times a year if you don't have anything that does it for you which in sure there are ones that exist by now that auto adjust

    Is their a stone version Id like to know. Could you use this for when your in a bunker you would just have to find a way to point the shadow inside and have that thing outside. Solar Tubes lights could help put the shadow down. I want to figure out how to display the shadow inside the bunker so you can have a shadow clock displaying inside the bunker.
