I've been doing video production since middle school, and in Highschool I started using Movie Studios to edit with. I went to College for Video Production Tech and weren’t happy with the “industry standard” editors I used there. I’ve used VEGAS ever since.

i just bought a 3060 and i use movie studio platinum 13 (i know that it is old) but... how it is pobbilbe that 1 minute clip takes 40 minute to render? is movie studio 13 older enough to not support the actual hardware? because untill yesterday i edited video with an old pc with a 720m and now as i said i have a desktop pc with 3060 and a 10600k... someone knows this stuff?
I can do vr 180 3d and 360 2d with vegas pro 18 and boris fx continuum unit vr plug in. Vr insert,blur,sharpen and reorient allow full control of my vr content. And i render at nearly 6k, 5,7k exactly 5760x2880 30 fps, i can combine photo 3d and video 3d. I cannot mix 2d and 3d it does not work with the convergence. But it is expected. I can however add any titles animation and logo transition in vr180 3d.

Does it save all the paths the the various elements of the project ? This basic feature seems not to be available, so I if I have various projectfiles, I don't want to see the last paths used for another project, I want path used when I saved the projectfile

I left Sony Vegas Pro to move to Sony Movie Studio... because it was a heck of a lot cheaper and basically the same program but supposedly stripped down. Whatever features are missing or omitted I didn't miss them, because I didn't use them before. Unfortunately, it also has the same same flaws as Vegas Pro, like not using Nvidia cards at all for GPU rendering... and crashing a lot when you try to do complicated things with titler under Windows 7. Not being able to just drag panes out of the main window to separate floating windows is frustrating too.. esp... the video preview window. I have two monitors, but I'm constantly resizing my tracks up and down vertically to make the preview window bigger or smaller. Sure you can click the little two TV icon above the preview window to duplicate it to the second monitor, but for some reason that's even more frustrating to me to use as it doesn't get rid of the first window to free up space. And on my FX-8350, many times it can't even keep up playing a preview with multiple tracks where mostly I just dubbed different sound over another video. I'm like you have to be kidding, I'm just playing a different sound over a video, why can't it keep up?
Still, i won't be moving to Resolve or anything else, because those programs are just... completely non-intuitive to me and a clusterfvck of figuring out a whole new complex nightmare.
When having your preview on the second monitor, in your main program, just grab the divider of the video preview and move it all the way to the right to the border of the screen. Boom. Vide preview gone, but still always accessible.

Stil no full fancy "AI" upscaling and interpolating thingy. Although i always wonder how much of that ai stuff is just bulls and any better than normal upscaling algorithms.
And where Vegas' smart upscaling filter fits in.

Hi does Vegas Pro 18 come with Soundforge 14 always? I saw an upgrade offer for Vegas Pro 18 that says Soundforge 14 was included. Today I went to sign on and saw Soundforge was replaced with another offer for something called WizardFXSuite which I don't need. Thanks!

Yes, I was super excited about Vegas Pro 18 and basically breezing through all the wonderful features until I started rendering. The first video took over 4 hours to render, but it was over an hour long. The second video was 20 seconds & it took about an hour to render. I've watched several videos & read community support posts to no avail. I think I'm even more confused now. LOL
Ever find a fix to this issue?? Same here :(

Hi there, I use Vegas Pro 15 . I have a low end pc with i5 6400 with igpu ..do u recommend me to go for Vegas 18 or it will be laggy in my system ..thanks a lot .. learning a lot from your videos . Cheers
I can't promise results since I've not used that exactly.i have a similar i5 with 8 gigs of ram i edit with in a pinch. It works great with 1080p but 4k struggles something awful. It just depends on the footage. I feel 18 is the best experience I've had so far, and it's got lots of little updates, but your footage codec, bitrate, and size have the most inpact

There's a check box in the render options for "render loop region only"
you know your stuff, but presentation was too fast for a dummy like me "Somehow" a motion-tracking pop-up appeared , but from where? I'm more at the speed of "Motion-tracking tracks a point or region (I dont know which) on the video. Once your project is loaded, pressing HERE will bring up a motion-tracking menu."
Maybe when I get better at V18 I'll come back and understand more!

Finally something new in vegas worth upgrading
Difference between 10 and 14 is literally nothing, the only difference is that 14 loads 4K clips faster and also loads faster compressed high fps clips (300+ fps). And in vegas 15 you get 1000% velocity and nothing new...
So yeah I have been using 10 and 13 for like 7 years, could move to this one now because it has motion tracking, the only thing I was missing in vegas
10 worked perfect with sapphire, BCC, rsmb, LUT, MBL and Ignite plugin, even better than vegas 13 because 13 was crashing on some combinations of sapphire combined togeter, couldnt render it (RSMB+MBL+S_TimeWarpRGB+S_TimeSlice+LUT+S_Shake and even some more Sapphire, it just couldnt render it, while Vegas 10 could but it was slower at loading clips if they were compressed high fps .mp4 instead of .avi recorded from fraps and converted to 300-600fps)

With pro 18 i can now load my VR camera Vuze xr in 360 2d and vr180 3D media and render it at 5,7k 5760x 2880 30fps resolution.
I use the Vuze xr studio to convert the raw footage to equirectangular format, then i am importing into vegas and use boris fx continuum unit VR insert to add logo png and positionate in 3D with convergence control. There are also plugin to control VR blur, reorient and sharpen the details. The plugin is 200$ though.

does vegas 18 have "custom keyframe curves" yet (that's the Main reason why I don't have Vegas)
you can set the curve type as "fast" "Slow" "linear" and "Smooth"

I've never bought it on steam. It's very convenient to install straight from the website, and you have have it on 2 computers at a time with the traditional purchase

Just disable it in the project settings, then set it to always start projects using those settings with the check box
No you cannot.
You do get the option to disable it in project settings but it only applies to the current video you are working on regardless if you tick the " start all projects with these settings" box, soon as you close the video you are working on and import a new video the software will resample it.
Still one of the major flaws in this software.
Another being the unnecessary rendering when burning to Bluray disc when video is already complient with Bluray specifications, always choose Adobe Encore for burning, it only transcodes non complient files.

I had MS 14 in the past, but it kept crashing.
Eventually upgraded to MS 17. Like the new features, but MS 17 keeps crashing.
I don't want MS18, because for some reason any version of the program crashes every 5 to 10 minutes, and no solutions fix the issue.

yea its amazing. all I do is trying to watch a 20 min clip in vegas 18, crashed 2 times in the 1st 3 minutes ;D will try to setup todays video with 18 but if it keeps on going like that Im happy to go back to 16 ^
I'd check your GPU settings in the preferences. You may need to update your GPU driver too
Honestly for my experience the vegas pro 18 runs SO much smoother now rather than 17 and i feel like my rendering speed is also faster but this is just what i think might be wrong
I feel that way too, but a lot of it depends on your set up, what software you're running in the bsck ground, diver versions, ect... So I'm careful how i broadcast these improvements because of it doesn't turn out that way for someone they think i lied.
Dude im having so many issues with 18. Constant crashing, everything smears and blows up which makes editing really hard to see what im trying to do. Saving is having issues. Maybe I just got a bad install but this is way worse than 17.

Hey, I paused your video mid watching because I have a really big question. Did they FINALLY and TRULY fix the GPU acceleration issues that have plagued this software for years? I know the marketing has been heavy around it on their product page, but I want a real-world truth answer, did they fix it and is it stable finally like it should be? I hope you hear back from you soon because that answer will make or break my chances of buying the upgrade. I've been skipping every other version of Vegas in hope and prayers they'd fix some of the REAL core issues and I don't want to get tricked/lied too that it's better when it's really not.
Alright, I'm going to give you my best answer to this. This is a complicated topic and the answer is equally so. First, I don't work for Vegas, but I can certainly tell you from all my conversations with them they are very hard working people who are proud of their product and eager to make it better and better. I know that issues like these are taken very seriously, and they are actively fixing and have fixed many issues. Personally I've a had really good experience with the product for years and years, and I'm actively hearing from people who are also loving it! I did work in IT for 6 years and supported a full range of software from MS suite, Adobe products, macs, and Windows. Everything broke. That's why i had a job. There's shifting layers of complexity. A windows update can change a security setting that breaks a software at any time. I can't speak exactly to what your problem was, or if there will be any future issue with any software, because gpu's get driver updates, windows changes a setting, then there's user error and everything in between. Whether adobe, vegas, davici, avid, they all suffer crashes and unforseen issues. I've experienced this first hand since i supported premier while in IT and I learned the Avid while obtaining my video production degree. I do know VEGAS has left in legacy GPU renders and let's you turn gpu settings on and off as methods for working around a possible gpu issue, and i know they really do care about the end user experience as they fix issues that may arise.

I realize that Adobe has its products, but the monthly price tag is not worth it for me and since I know Vegas Pro pretty well and have made so many of my assets for myself and clients, I don't and won't switch to someone else. I have been hoping and praying that every other version would get better and it seems that the jump from Vegas 16 to 18 would be worth it in the long haul since there are a number of features I've also been wanting. Plus, we need to support other products to put the pressure on Adobe and the like to get them to change their business model and I have always loved Magix Pay Once, keep forever business model and I want to support that idea. Also since it appears you do a number of Vegas Tutorials yourself, I gave you a Sub in hopes to learn more then what I already know! Thank you for your time to reply back to me! Much appreciated!

I am a long time vegas user and I really prefer it over some other famous competitors BUT I had a LOT of crashes in Vegas 17. This really is an issue when you use it in your work related situation.
Oh how funny: I just installed the demo, loaded a current project I am working on and within the first 15 seconds IT CRASHED.
So the only thing making me consider the upgrade at the moment is the additional benefeit of Soundforge Pro 14 and SpectraLayers Pro 7 and those other two things you get "for free".
Scrapyard channel has a video showing the set-up to prevent Vegas from crashing : one video for VP17 and one for VP18. For VP 17, mine was crashing when I had Gpu acceleration on and the recommended set-up of scrapyard fixed the issue while VP official support was recommending to put GPU acceleration off, which was stupid. I have spectralayer Pro 6, and it is very good.

I feel you! Very long time Vegas user here. 17 crashed way too much i had to force myself to learn Davinci resolve mid project just to finish it. As much as i love Vegas. Crashing is a deal breaker when projects have deadlines!

VP17 is great for me. I also have BorisFX Continuum 2020.5 Complete, NBFX, IgnitePro 4.1, and some Sapphire. It's been a workhorse for me.
But like you, I will wait for one more patch for VP18...

yeah i would be happy enough if i could edit a video without lags after 3 Transitions and i have more then 30 ram and a 2080ti but hey like in the last version they promise again "hardware alone isnt enough get the new version and the software use full potential of your hardware to give a perfekt workflow" feels like i read this every 2nd year -.- but hey im sure everythiung works fine after buying this version for half a year till a update comes and make it worser again to sell the new version hahaha! fwiw I had a 1070 and it appears Vegas prefers AMD - atleast in speed. My way cheaper RX480 was almost 35% faster than the 1070 with encodes. Though I have noticed bugs in the latest 17 build with "shadows" enabled on the "event/pan" to the point I had to disable HW Accel. Can't wait to test on 18. Thats with my 5700XT though. The RX480 has no such bug

Devinci resolve is cheaper on the long run and stronger in many aspects.

Was worried that new Vegas would have features I actually needed.
