    Hi!! I just got my dragon yesterday, and I've been really stressed for a while cause I was terrified that I would end up hurting or even killing my dragon, due to my past pet experience, even if those were fish.
    But watching these videos and having a much more simple layout of all the things I need, it helped me feel allot better about it all!
    So a big, b i g thank you from both me and little Jasper!

    Don't use sand it PERMANENTLY stains your Beardies paws or claws.I do not recommend. Listen to Taylor she KNOWS what she's talking about.

      @@beareragnver7680 Impaction is caused by improper husbandry like incorrect heating, humidity, or supplementation, NEVER USE VITA SAND OR CALCIUM SAND, I would ask that if you use sand use washed playsand that is slica free.

    • @prettyprincess3276

      Aren’t the problems more on calcium sand for the eating issues, bird sand is recommended by a lot of the local pet shops in my area. The sand or dirt is good for them to get comfortable and doesn’t hurt or harm their feet.

      Sure thing Taylor, it was excellent! I have off this weekend, so hopefully a video within a day or two :-) I know I've been a little inconsistent lately, but I've been having computer issues :-P My old one (good one) fried a few weeks ago, and the one I'm using now isn't as good, plus, as a cherry on top, I screwed up my editing software when trying to transfer it from the last computer to this one - I'm the furthest thing from techy. It's all fun stuff, but prayerfully will have it all smoothed out shortly. Thank you, and keep cranking out them awesome video's!!

    Hey, sand carpets aren't hard to clean at all! I use one for my bearded dragon. All you have to do is take it out of the tank, lay it on the ground outside, and sweep it off with a broom. You can also wash it, but you'll knock all of rocks off. Just be sure if you get one, that you shake it off well outside before putting it in the tank if you have a juvenile to prevent impaction.

  • @ManuelOrtizification

    Australian here, Bearded dragons actually live heaps of different places, which do include rocky areas, but sandy areas are super common too. They actually love digging in sandy soil. They also eat sand intentionally to aid with digestion, just make sure you use fine sand in their tank as it will pass through their digestive tract much more easily.
    Also, with food, as they get older, 6-12 months, you want to really limit their intake of any mealworms/superworms etc - they're too rich and regularly cause gout in bearded dragons. (Painful and debilitating joint inflammation.)

    Good video. Night in the desert can be in the 50s. As long as your tank doesn't go below 64 at night he should be ok. For your videos I recommend a wall instead of an open window behind you and don't cut off your forehead. But you are doing a great job and are very informative.

    Hey taylor me and my daughter are huge fans and love your videos ...so my daughter wanted a bearded dragon and I told her they are a lot of responsibility and require a lot of attention and that if she did her home work we would get her one...well she researched for an entire year and has watched every video you have put out ...so ir was finally time for me to hold up to my end of the deal ,we have a Siberian husky and like to keep the house cold for her so we decided to turn one of the walk in closets into the beardie room where we can close the door to keep it warm she has a 40 gallon tank and on the opposite side of the tank and shelving she has cushioned bench seat so she can sit in there and hang out with the beardie. My question is what is the ideal lighting and heat solution ....I purchased a herpstat2 lighting/heat controller I would love to hear any input you have on:
    Bulb positioning
    Bulb type/wattage
    Ideal temps
    Also settings on the herpstat2 it has sunrise and sunset features and it can gradually bring the lights on and off to mimic sunrise and sunset it also has a dimmable heating output so it never turns the heat element on full blast and it has a night drop feature where you can set a night time temperature ...
    P.s. Fitz is definitely the best looking and happiest beardie we have seen keep up the good work and keep the videos coming

    • @TaylorCrane
      @TaylorCrane  6 лет назад

      jessie adams Awesome! I’m so glad I could help! I think the walk-in closet is a great idea especially if you keep the house at colder temperatures. In regards to bulb positioning, your best bet is to get a tube UVB light so it can cover the whole tank, it’s known to be more effective! Then, with the heat bulb, place it on any side of the tank you’d like so that can be your beardies basking area! With the bulb type and wattage, go with the tube uvb and regular bulb/coil for heat. Wattage is completely up to you depending on how close the beardie is to the bulb, I usually use a 75 or 100 watt. And lastly ideal temps would be around 90-100 degrees for a basking spot and about 80s for the cooler side! :)

    I just got my bearded dragon on the 11th. I have everything that you need to take care of him. The only thing that i've heard that you need is a background for your tank. My bearded dragon is around 7" long, including his tail length. Last night, I went to bed around 10:00 and my bearded dragon was up against the side of the glass tank. I woke up at around 12:30 to check on him, and he was still there. I moved him onto his basking spot (under his night lamp), where he usually sleeps, and I went back to bed. In the morning around 9:30, he was in the opposite corner, looking out of the glass tank. Should I get a background so he feels more at home?

    • @TaylorCrane
      @TaylorCrane  7 лет назад +1

      Emily Zeiler It's up to you what you wanna do! You don't NEED a background but many people have them for aesthetic reasons or possibly for the reason to make the beardie feel at home! It's totally up to you! If you want him to have a background I say go for it! :) He also probably just wants to look around your room aswell! I know Fitz loves to get real close up to the glass and sleep or even look out and watch what I'm doing! :)

      Supreme 13 don’t know how relevant this is a month later but yes! Uvb needs to be on during the day (for about 12 hours) and so does a heat lamp (that keeps the hot side of the tank around 85-95 degrees). All lights should be turned off at night, they do not need heat at night as long as your home doesn’t like get crazy cold like 50 degrees.

    40 gallon is fine, but if you want a active and exiting to watch bearded dragon while in his terrarium then get at least a 75 gallon, if you want to spoil your dragon then the most space you should give them is 120 gallons.
    I want to clarify that a 40 gallon is ok, but the more space the better and if you give your dragon more space they can live up to 20 years if given enough exercise and space and the right diet (20 years is very uncommon and usually they only live for 8-12 years)

Her back legs seem to be completely paralyzed as well as her tail (it seems broken to one side at the base) i do not know sex nor age and it seems very thin/flat. What if anything can you recommend to help? This breaks my heart plz help.

    So,my bedroom is downstairs and it gets very cold!! Would you recommend me to get a little heater for my room just to keep it a little warmer?

    • @TaylorCrane
      @TaylorCrane  7 лет назад

      Gwenyth Lindholm It depends! If your bearded dragons tank is still able to regulate normal temperatures for a bearded dragon from the heating lamps, then you should be fine! Unless it is EXTREMELY cold, then I wouldn't worry! But, it's all up to you! If you want to play it safe then you can, but just a warning, the heat lamps from the bearded dragons tank sometimes heats up the room for you! Lol it happens to me :)

    Would exoterra desert rock substrate be ok for beardies it says specialised for bear dies

    Do you have any experience with or opinions on Beardie life? It's a desert substrate made to mimic their natural environment, and it apparently contains clay and rock and the like. I am considering getting a beardie, and would like to know if it is worth it? Thank you!

    At my local pet store they have many bearded dragons in the same tank, so what if you got 2 of them. Would it be fine to have them in the same tank?

    • @scarlettkore
      @scarlettkore 6 лет назад +1

      jasmine Pope I don’t know if you already have the answer to this but I’ll put it here anyway. It’s not recommended to have 2 ( or more ) bearded dragons in the same tank. You can totally have two but not in the same tank. They can actually hurt or kill each other in one tank.

    Tbh you could just turn down the heat a notch for night time by like 10-20 degrees(say from 100 degrees to 80)

    • @pxrisxiv
      @pxrisxiv 7 лет назад

      This is also what I’ll probably do as well, since I live in the UK and it gets to about 2 degrees Celsius at night(outside) inside its about 24 Celsius but I have my windows opened and a fan on EVEN IN WINTER 😂 summer night time stays above 25 Celsius so I’ll be fine then to turn the lamp off.
