Broadway musical icon, Mary Martin, was a Weatherford product, so was her son, television actor, Larry Hagman, who spent his boyhood there with his father. (Ms. Martin debuted the lead female roles in "South Pacific,," "The Sound of Music," "Oklahoma," and a host of other musicals. Larry Hagman played in multiple television shows, but was most well known as "J.R. Ewing" in "Dallas.") Late in her life, a newspaper reporter asked Ms. Martin what it was like to have a son who'd become an icon. Ms. Martin smiled sweetly and replied, "Young man, I am an icon. My son is a star."
I am a grandma now, but lived in Weatherford in 1976 and my first son was born there, my husband joined the Navy, we moved to San Diego, Ca. Now I am back living in South Texas. I hope to visit Weatherford again. Thanks for the video, brought back some beautiful memories.

Wow that was the biggest orphanage that the ever seen! My daddy when he was a little boy till he was a teenager was raised in an orphanage in North Carolina. That’s where I’m from but now live in Kentucky.. My daddy to have lived in one he learned so much about the Bible and so much more, in fact his Orphanage Mother wanted to adopt him and my Aunt.. My grandma came too get them before that could of happened! I did get the honor of seeing the orphanage and meeting his orphanage Mother when I was a little girl. The orphanage is still there. That was in the 50’s when my Daddy was there... Tell ya they instilled a lot of good wholesome values in him. He could have turned out on the bad side of things but he didn’t because he wanted more for his life and he wanted a wife and family and he got just that and more. He was truly happy to see his orphanage Mother so that he could tell her what he made of himself... He was Art Director of two different movie 🎥 companies and he was very successful at what he got too do for a living and that was a dream come true, and I’m so happy he got too do what his true passion was and that was Art of any and everything!!!
Weatherford's population this year is approaching 40,500. There are alot of developments going up. Cosco is coming. LOTS of traffic. It's growing rapidly. Not so small anymore.
I grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas, so I'm really enjoying these videos. Brings back lots of great memories traveling through these towns in my younger days. Especially going to Possom Kingdom lake in the summer. I've lived in Georgia for the past 30 years but still consider myself a Texan at heart ❤️ Thanks guys! Great stuff 😊
@@sparksamericana I am also enjoying this series as I love history. I live in a city in the UK which was mostly built by the Romans. Btw are you anywhere near Spring in Houston as my son and family are there.
I loved the murals and quaintness of the town! Funny mural story to share. In Jonesboro, Arkansas there’s an old mural on a building downtown for Bull Durham tobacco. When the mural was uncovered and restored locals decided to add a fence so a rail would cover the bull’s 😮😂 private parts which were visibly painted in the original mural. 😂
Absolutely loving y'alls new channel, as well!! So enjoyed seeing Weatherford thru your video. What fun! A lady bought my 2 horses that I adored and they are somewhere in Weatherford enjoying a lot of beautiful land to graze on :)

Thanks for taking me with you on your tour. My daughter takes me on tours of our town since I didn't grow up here, but she did. She knows all the out of the way spots. Little towns are starting to come back.😊 Thanks for sharing!
I fell in love for the first time in Weatherford Tx. . I was only 15. My Dad was a resaler, we set up at the flea market they have there the 1st weekend of the month, it’s one of the largest in Tx. We were their every month April thur October. He went off to job corp and I never heard from him again.

There used to be a huge farmers market in Weatherford, if we were driving to Ranger or somewhere we always stopped there and my dad would pick out a yellow meated watermelon, and lots of veggies, everything was fresh off the farm.
Now I'm gonna have to go check out Weatherford .LoL. I've lived here all my life and never checked it out. Been thru it lots of time. Love the videos, keep them coming. Just be safe.
