A lot of people are saying Tator called me an Uncle Tom. That is not what happened. He didn't even say I was a racist to other blacks, let alone call me an Uncle Tom. Tator was just giving what he believed to be a well know example of a black person being racist to other black people, which was an appropriate response if you believe I was saying those things don't exist. I repeat, Tator did NOT, neither directly nor indirectly, call me an Uncle Tom in the video.
Look up the real meaning of "Uncle Tom" it was a positive turned negative over time for us black folks and it gets a bad narrative for the said events in history that really happen.
I mean I get it to a point since I'm not really a fan of pointless negativity either as it never ends well, but at the same time I don't really understand why they should be given the benefit of the doubt when they're seemingly so keen to explain why others don't like something. It's pretty much the basis of what spins any of these topics out of control when they pop up for any given medium, as everything just seems to devolve into painting those that you disagree with in the worst possible light. Which has sadly turns what would have been formerly passive and nice communities similarly as rabid, because they're constantly getting everything in the book thrown at them which only emboldens their negativity and cements it. That said I also get how this is directed at a person, Shady in this case and not a generalized group. But that doesn't really make the style of speaking any better in my perspective.
I don't really care for the concept of "punching up" as it suggests "punching down" and that people are undeserving to be made fun of as they are "weaker"
@@calvinmcneil9824 I’ve been a professional comic for over a decade, anyone can “get a punch”. It’s shadys’ exquisite use of being nice and not bullying someone who could not and who’s fan base could not possibly fight back. That’s the difference in comedy and being an asshole
@LTNetjak Punching is punching, regardless of which direction it's going. Don't want to get punched? Then don't throw hands, it's that simple. Bigger people can be bullied, smaller people can be bullied. I don't really care how you want to justify or excuse your behavior to yourself, you look rather pathetic when you do regardless. Either it's all okay, or none of it is.
Ironic that this Tater accuses you of being condescending… while taking a condescending tone throughout his video and making a disingenuous jab about not knowing a mermaid story was fictional
Master-Tater didn't understand the reason why Shady compared changing the beast to the change of the character. That's proof enough that Master-Tater hasn't a clue about what he talking about. That's such a simple explanation to understand.
projection and hypocrisy is a quite common thing when it comes to people that value their own opinion enough to spend hours producing a video on it. unfortunately, people that are as self aware and humble (at their core, obviously shady bases a lot of their attempts at comedy on an outwardly conceited appearance.) as shady are an extreme rarity when it comes to online commentators.
Thank you for pointing to Cree Summers and reminding everyone she's been voicing characters of all races since the 80's and still does so today :3 It really gets my goat when people push for VOICE ACTORS to only portray their own kind.....which is stupid because the range of your voice talent is what matters in that profession, otherwise we'd never get amazing casting like Phil LaMarr voicing everyones favorite time traveling Samurai.
One of the things that bothered more than anything about 2020 Twitter demanding that all voice actor and actresses match their race and gender is how that would have hampered actors like Arthur Burghardt who played Destro in the original Sunbow G.I. Joe. Destro is suppose to be a Scot with aristocratic bearing, and yet, he has no Scottish burr and sounds closer to Darth Vader than anything. However, the thing is that we never see or hear Destro without his mask, and it could easily be a voice modulator attached to the mask to explain away why he isn't speaking with the correct accent. And to be fair, Arthur Burghardt did a great intimidating Destro with a bit of swarm to it when he was talking to Cobra Commander, and he originated the role. Most others actors try to do a voice similar to Arthur Burghardt to the point where some fans even thought that Destro was black as kids, and are shocked to find out that he is Scottish and his real name is James McCullen XXIV. It then becomes questions of why he is wearing a metallic Disco Outfit, and it is more wholesome that anything out of 2020 Twitter.
Unfortunately Phil Lamarr is one of those people who demands people only play characters who match their race, and demanded people not use him as an example.
Tater is what's known as a "bad faith actor" which is horribly common in Hollywood and social media. They think speaking with an authoritive tone is enough to pass as an expert which, sadly, works on people who aren't discerning with information they read or hear.
Yo Shady, the fact that it took so long for someone to make a video disagreeing with you says more about how well your opinions and videos are made. Congrats on your work ethic and just being a good dude. People get way too caught up in a "bigger message" that they fail to see how/who they support are following a road paved with good intentions.

Taters argument about not knowing what Ariel looks like is even worse when you consider the fact that she had a cartoon show a comic book series and two direct to video sequels
Isn't it crazy people can't just consider the fact that this is just odd to people when there was already source material I feel this way everytime we swap anything on characters
It would have been just about as weird or poorly received if they made Ariel a white blonde or a brunette. But they specifically chose a black girl for the remake so when people got upset, they'll just be rock-ist. Anyone, ANYONE who says they just hire someone who "was the best fit for the role" without visuals being a part of the criteria are at best ignorant of the process, and at worst gaslighting the rest of us.
I normally don't like to bully people, but this other guy's voice makes him sound like the stereotypical "UM ACKSHUALLY" kind of guy and it's triggering my fight or fight reflex. Guess we'll see how the rest of the video goes
I did hear an amusing joke about this casting: “Do you think they asked for a ginger and the casting director was dyslexic?” So horrible, but oh so funny
I think the reason Shady has struggled to get a response video is that his initial commentaries on the content he makes are very well reasoned and thought out for the most part and most people can at least understand Shady's perspective even if they don't completely agree with it. On a side note, welcome to RUclips Shady.
Part of Shady making these well reasoned videos is that his points aren't reactive or outrageous like some of the other opinions you come across, so they aren't going to generate the same level of controversy. If his video on the new Little Mermaid's race, and the culture war said things like "If you’re defending the movie's race swapping, you’re just trying to cover up the fact that you're the real rokcist" there probably would have been more responses. So, I guess that's a tip for you, Shady: if you want more response videos, you should start making inflammatory statements that you don't actually believe.
@@as3957 Or make inflammatory statements that he does believe, that he can confidently defend. Like for example, "People who defend such obvious tokenism care more about pushing their particular agenda than any kind of consistency in history or the artwork." Or a more simple one, "If someone thinks just because fiction is made up therefore it's all equally made up and anything goes, they're retarded."
@samurai tadpole the internet kinda encourages that kinda of behavior. Being outrageous will encourage engagement and engagement encourages the algorithm. If you're a ladder climber, the internet incentivizes you to be a terrible person.
A girl I was seeing decided to cut things off when I made the statement "The black community deserves better then recycled characters and stories." Does the black community deserve to have a black Disney princess? Yes. But it should be an "original" character preferably form African folk tales Africa is full of interesting folktales and mythology to play so to take an old story and remake it is not only unfair to the black community (because they deserve original stories) it's also unfair to everyone else because we've already seen the little mermaid
It’s diet “progressiveness”. It’s a little insulting because it’s like “well everyone knows it from when she was white, they LOVE it, so it’s pretty likely they’ll like it even if we change her race!”
And the Reward for the Best Comment of the YEAR goes to... Seriously, that is what I have been trying to tell my mom when it came to The Little Mermaid. If Disney wants to cast Halle Bailey, then make an original story. Although I suggested folktales based on the Caribbean, this works with the environment this movie already has. Thank you for saying this!
I know right? He even had the "AND THAT'S A FACT" happen at least once in the video I think. Shady doesn't add that, the gods just say that during his videos
You angered someone enough to have them make a response video? You did it, Shady! You're a big boy RUclipsr now! I really liked that point you made about immersion. I have had people try to mock me when I point out how something wasn't immersive, be it a video game, a movie, or a D&D campaign. The point of immersion is not forgetting that the world is a work of fiction; it is not being torn from the experience by having storylines/ creative decisions that make no sense even within the established world. I don't care that my character can survive a dragon's fire breath because (as a level 15+) he is effectively superhuman. I *do* care when a character who is established to have no magical powers whatsoever shows up over 500 miles away from where we left them, beating us to our destination in fact, for the sake of "plot". Something being put into the story for painfully obvious reasons is the problem here.
I think OSP calls this “internal consistency.” Immersion and realism in storytelling media aren’t about how close they are to real life. They’re about how little the story breaks its own rules.
Tator made the mistake of thinking this was a political centric channel. There's a difference between being focused on politics, and having bits of politics in a work of media. Shady is the later, as his works are centered around morality and ethics displayed in media.

"They don't think about the points being made in their entirety. They find the slight detail of a point, and rebut that detail instead of a point as a whole" OMG, you hit the nail on the head. That's the problem with so many obnoxious commentators. They refuse to look at the argument as a whole, and just refute minor things being brought up that don't accurately show the argument being displayed.
That's because it's their strategy to attack the little points. Look at how long Shady had to spend making it clear that his opening was done in a joking tone. It's called a gish gallup. It's a bad form of debate used to exhaust the opponents time by forcing them to prove minor details. Since online arguments don't have a set time limit, it mainly serves as a way to exhaust the opponent in general by forcing them to explain everything and dig through search results for sources.

Okay, I'm just gonna copy/paste what I commented on SaberSpark's video on Velma about this whole thing about raceswaps and him saying that "there's nothing wrong with raceswaps" and "if you dislike Velma because of the raceswaps you're stupid" and, while the comment is targeted at Velma specifically, the sentiments behind it is universal. Here it is: "Okay, I am tired of people complaining about people complaining of race swaps. This shit has been going on for a decade now. Okay, yes, inherently on face value, there is nothing wrong with it. In fact, I’d go on a limb and say 5-10% of the time, it’s fine. But, really, let’s get to the truth of the matter. People aren’t really complaining purely about the swap factor on its own. It is actually a red flag in an unspoken strike system. Anytime an established character gets race swapped, sex swapped, gender identity swapped, sexual orientation swapped, it is a STRONG indicator that what you’re about to consume is pretty terrible. Then watch it and it’s even worse than you thought because the new identity of this swapped character is entirely based and expressed by what they just got swapped to because the corporation or creators are trying to get cheap virtue bucks from underrepresented groups. Hell, a lot of times they even come out as pretty offense caricatures. And I mean…really, the new black guy is the drug centered guy and the only unchanged character continues to be a white boy with daddy issues, a rich asshole, and insecure because of his tiny dick? Ain’t no one gonna connect the dots that maybe this shit should have stunk as soon as the race swaps were revealed or we gonna keep pretending it smelled like roses and posies?" I probably also want to add the extra shot to the foot for "inclusivity in media" that anytime any sort of inclusion is given, they won't stop being so annoyingly obnoxious about it. I barely know what the project is about only that the cast is inclusive, and that's it.
SaberSpark has been doing this alot lately. Sounds like he really hates criticism from modern media. I get that he leans left, but he is talking more about political cartoons recently that I had to unsubscribed from his channel. Especially when he misses the point of criticism.

I'll use the "Beast" example by saying that the Studio Chizu anime "Belle" has Belle (Suzu) as a Japanese girl and the beast as a dragon, and I am in love with this film. Because it's a completely different story with an admittedly similar but very different message! If it were Disney recreating their Beauty and the Beast story in the exact same setting but only with these character changes, it would have been incredibly strange. Also, on a side note, as someone who says they appreciate stories with a solid message of empathy, I would love it if Shady made a video about this film!

Ironically the trailer didn't invoke imagery of the animated version for me. Instead there was a nagging of familiarity but for something else. I listened over and over again trying to figure out what the issue was. Then it hit me. The way that she sings really really makes you realize how similar "part of your world" and Little shop of horror's "somewhere that's Green" are (btw both written by the same man).
You're absolutely right. During his comparison about Grimm's fantasy tails he talks about race. It's not about race at this point. Ariel was a character. Intellectual property is very different from a story changed and passed down by generations.
Ariel isn't exactly something I was all into in my childhood so I don't really have a dog in the fight so to speak, but I like one of the last points you made about how there has been so much garbage attached to changes like these that when people see it it represents a warning flag. Of course, I would apply that to ALL the Disney remakes which I view more as soulless productions to extend the life of their copyright as opposed to legitimate remakes for the purpose of creating a new rendition, quality story. As such, I get the feeling that their goal is to score social credit or just get people rage talking about it, as opposed to making a timeless classic for the new generation of kids.

Honestly I don't care how people make their movies/shows/etc. because I am free to support whatever but it does annoy me when people as a whole don't seem consistent in their preached values. That of course doesn't count historical/historical fiction (which I suppose some can argue the Little Mermaid is) since those are specifically meant to evoke a higher degree of historical accuracy. Hey Shady, I've had this idea bouncing in my head ever since the first teaser for Little Mermaid dropped. Why did they go through so much effort to change a legacy title, when they could have easily just remade Princess and the Frog in live action instead? Could have saved a ton in their CG budget. Could have plenty of black actors without feeling hamfisted. Could have told a genuinely good story without pissing off young or old viewers. What's your take? I'd love to hear your opinions.
Something tells me they didn't want to because Princess And The Frog wasn't their best performing animated movie. They're driven by profits mostly, so when they see that they can remake a fan favorite movie, they'll go with the most popular ones because (apparently) they're popular enough to draw an audience in. It's why they made Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and more into live action movies.
They're doing remakes due to when the movie licenses expire. That's why Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast already happened. Though I'm surprised they haven't done anything with the B tier movies, like Herucles etc. But I don't have the movie release history memorized. Not looking forward to them butchering any of the Altantis and Lilo&Stitch and Brother Bear era. But they're milking their renaissance films for the while. Can't wait for Latina Snow White next.

I've always held the belief that it's much more insensitive to race-swap an existing character, rather than actually putting in the time, effort, and care, to create an interesting new character (that happens to be a minority). And to back this up, Miles Morales as Spiderman (at least as far as I have seen) was successful, and was well received, because it wasn't a real race-swap; it was the creation of a new and interesting character within the same universe as a known popular character.
Miles isn't a very liked character. Into the Spider verse is the only reason he is somewhat acceptable these days. In fact the reason he is mixed race like he is due to Obama becoming president. They were already planning to kill Peter Parker off around the time the elections were happening. The Ultimate universe in general did a lot of things story wise that aren't really that enjoyable. Miles just gets boring stories kinda sad because he is a better spider person than a lot of them that exist. Definitely not the worst thing to come from that universe. Whoo check out what they did with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch. Personally there are too many spider people out there and lot of them far superior like Miguel O'Hara who is also mixed race. Also taking something that should be unique in Miles case he pretty much gained his powers the same way Peter did so it cheapens the character overall or says Oscorp is really terrible at lab security lol.

But the fact that they've since been flaunting her skin color above literally everything else tells you how much confidence they have in her performance actually being able to carry the film. And that might not be her fault. It could just be the writing. But they'll blame her for being black even though they are the ones who made that the most important thing about her. For me, the weirdest part of Tator's response was that he assumed most people complaining never saw the original. I personally haven't seen it, but even if I talked to everyone I know about the controversy, and it turned out that none of them saw it, I wouldn't think our experiences reflected the majority of society. This is a iconic Disney princess movie we're talking about. These characters are featured in Disney's marketing for a reason, they aren't going focus on characters from movies most people haven't seen.
Not to mention that the examples he uses were completely different versions of the story. So he really didn't do himself any favors for trying to challenge Shady
23:02 I actually reference this Cinderella for how diversity casting is done right. No one in this video has their race brought up as a part of their character, they just are. I also realized from Shady’s video here that this Cinderella also does not try to elicit nostalgia from the animated film previous. It is a different version of the story.
I agree. Cinderella is a public domain character, so anybody do anything with the story and make it their own. Want Cinderella be called Ella's and have her be magically obedient and have her sing pop songs? Go ahead. Want to make it super realistic and have no magic yet have her confront her own stepmother (talking about ever after) go right ahead Want to set it in the modern day where Cinderella goes to a high school in Beverly Hills? Go right ahead. The sky is the limit What Disney is doing is is trying to redo the original while replacing the character design to appease to an ever angry, ever hungry crowd. I don't mind if they make Ariel black if they do something different with it. Hell I remember there's an African folk tale that's basically the little mermaid so why doesn't Disney do that one? Oh right that requires work and they're too lazy to do it Ps I actually haven't seen that specific Cinderella movie. I've been wanting to see it for years but I've never had the chance to watch it. I didn't even knew it existed until a few years ago. Please tell me if it's good or not cuz I'm still curious. Personally I love Ella enchanted but I'm more than willing to explore lol
Doesn't mean it's forced anymore than this is, we're assuming some kind of quota or "affirmative action" on Disney's part, when, while that can be a thing, it doesn't mean that was the justification behind the hiring or the choice by the director or producers. Cinderella can be whatever race a writer wants, same with virtually any fairy tale, there's a whole series on HBOMax, Happily Ever After: Fairy Tales For Every Child.
@@wafflebroz Your feeling of it being in your face is your perception, I didn't feel threatened by that and I grew up on Disney's white Cinderella, same as with the Little Mermaid and yet I'm not threatened by the fact that the character isn't my race (white) in the 90s one with Brandi or the 2023 Haille Berry version. So much of this is just needless defensiveness masquerading as "criticism" instead of admitting implicit biases we have via society

Shady, this makes me want you to do a video about the Willy Wonka remake with Johnny Depp. I liked it because I went in expecting a Tim Burton movie and got one, while others inexplicably expected it to be like the Gene Wilder version and so they hated it. Credit where credit is due, not only to your response, Shady. Part of my family is from East Germany and until now I have never even heard of the elephant version of the Beast.
Ariel is actually not just known, but perhaps one of the most popular Princess of Disney, her merch still sells on its own, even today (even if her movie came out in the finale of the 80ths, people even now still buy dolls, ceramics, and anything that either has her face or something connected to her) and I know little girls who can recognize her a mile away and do love her, heck, I know that even some boys know who she is or can, at last, know the name of her movie and how she looks like, so she isn't just known but loved. Not for nothing said movie saved Disney from falling off the hill once.
Heck, if it wasn't for The Little Mermaid, Disney would have been out of business before the year 2000. Keep in mind that before the 90s, Disney was in the Dark Age from 1970 to 1988. The Little Mermaid was the film that saved Walt Disney Pictures from going under.
Unfortunate the response was such lowhanging fruit that he didn't actually bring anything to the discussion beyond him some how having a perfect "UM ACKSHUALLY" voice. Dude could only make a point by taking clips and deleting the context that was inconvenient to his argument, or outright ignoring the points that were made. He thinks he's got wit, but in reality he's only half-right.
Character design is important. How they look tells you a story of the character, from the clothes they wear to the color of their skin, the skin color being less important for things set in the modern day where people have spread out all over. A character’s design is important for knowing parts about them, while the story tells you the rest.
Gotta love it when people strawman and twist your words into the argument THEY want to attack, am I right? Side note: The casting choice for Ariel was deliberate. I don't even feel that it's up for debate. They knew what they were doing, they knew what Ariel's iconic appearance was and knew what kind of reaction changing it for sociopolitical reasons would yield, we know they were sociopolitical reasons because Disney had said as much and came right out and told everyone they were going to push their "Agenda" into future work, they have affirmed their beliefs in things like CRT and the various Angry Alphabet Organizations, and they popped this out in the same time frame as other projects like Pinnochio and Kenobi where they were ALREADY using black actresses as a shield to deflect criticism. They were accusing potential Kenobi viewers of racism before the finale even got leaked and people ACTUALLY started hating on Reva. Don't worry, I don't blame the ACTRESS. I blame DISNEY. They are testing the waters and trying to see what they can get away with and the MOMENT critical responses so much as FLINCH, they default to weaponizing black actresses as a means of deflection. It's slimey, abhorrent behavior. And this is 100% avoidable. Like... Just cast the right people for the right job. Everyone and their mother knows that if it had been a black character getting white washed people would have lost their minds. We all remember the Ghost in the Shell movie where people came out of the woodwork to attack Scarlet Johansson for playing the role of a "Japanese" character even though The Major is a cyborg, uses a body listed as a foreign model (likely Russian), the original creators praised Scarlet as a "perfect casting choice", and the entire point of Ghost in the Shell is that it's the future where human bodies have become redundant and replaceable in an age where a person's brain can be turned into data capable of being swapped out to other vessels... You know... a "Ghost" in a "Shell". But no, "Tis for thee but not for me" rules. You're only allowed to be critical when it fits the agenda.
You ever accidentally read something from like, the Huffington Post? They have articles now on like "why we are (proudly and openly doing thing we used to claim we weren't doing)"
I mean that their common tactic tho, because most of these people like him can't think for themselves and just use reddit and Twitter to reinforce that their actually right.
Those tactics are far too commonly used by dishonest people with no real argument to make. They have to dishonestly intentionally misinterpret and misrepresent you and your argument to create a fictional enemy to attack. Sometimes the people are genuinely stupid and unintentionally misrepresent you and your argument, and you can sometimes find common ground and understanding with them, but that scenario seems rare. Most people are stuck in their ideological cult worldview and don't accept any information that contradicts it often doing mental gymnastics to avoid the conclusion of their own hypocrisy/double standards and blatant lack of reality and logic.
“We as a society should condemn works that have bad messages.” - Tater Exactly, that’s why I condemn the live-action Little Mermaid. Or, wait, are only messages that he agrees with “good”?
Very happy for you meeting your goal Shady! And, congrats on making a video which is far more watchable than his. He shouldn't call anyone condescending...it sounds like he thinks he's WAY smarter than everyone else. You're a saint to still try to explain anything he misconstrued, especially given his lack of interest in listening.
While people can go in circles all day about faithfulness to a character's description in the source media versus artistic liberties by changing a few traits or radically altering it; the biggest problem we're seeing nowadays is that "it's okay if we change a character's race, but don't you dare question it or you're racist!" and then mic dropping because these people think calling somebody racist is the ultimate defense. It's not at all helped that people on one side acts like it's a valid tactic, and the other side is often too cowardly to just ignore the accusation and let themselves be put on the back foot.
As an Independent, I find it hard to trust the Left over the Right because of how they discuss criticism. At least when I have conversations with those who are conservative, they give out understanding points about why something doesn't make sense. But when I have the same conversations with those who are leftists, they would get emotional and just throw out BUZZWORDS & CATCHPHRASES. That's where they lose the argument.
that point about the beast being different by different companies was so bad lol. It almost seemed like he just stopped the video at random points because he got so mad he had to type this response up. I like that point about the immersion though, it would have been just the same if they had a white girl play Ariel in the movie, but she was just purple for no reason. It would still be ruined because she doesn't look like the adaptation it's like how the Genie wasn't always blue in that Aladinn remake, you saw less Genie and more Will Smith ruining the immersion of his character as well.
My god, this is the perfect gift for you for your first one. Like this is a beach ball on a softball tee Also he sounds like drunk Fry Edit: Veggie Tales! And it's the episode that lives rent free in my head
I've seen the term used to dismiss the opinions of black people that go others disagree with.
so odd question you think Tator's going to respond to this video?
I like your videos and this one is awesome
“You’re punching up.” My wife literally called you a gentleman for how backhanded and polite that was, literal verbal tennis

That's because it's their strategy to attack the little points. Look at how long Shady had to spend making it clear that his opening was done in a joking tone. It's called a gish gallup.
Ain’t no one gonna connect the dots that maybe this shit should have stunk as soon as the race swaps were revealed or we gonna keep pretending it smelled like roses and posies?"
I probably also want to add the extra shot to the foot for "inclusivity in media" that anytime any sort of inclusion is given, they won't stop being so annoyingly obnoxious about it.

NOPE. XD
Reminds me of the Family Guy driveby debate skit.
It’s because he practices what he preaches😁.
The Little mermaid of horrors would have been infinitely better
Yeah that teaser imagery looks very bland, grey and dark. Even with Haile’s amazing singing talents, this movie is just gonna be another dud.
lol, that should be a skit. the little siren, a horror movie
@@elijaharroyo4846 You basically summed my thoughts. The dark lighting looked like a horror movie.
You said it best man. And they are such garbage nowadays. The stuff nowadays is so forgettable. Compared to something like Toy Story, which is still super relevant almost 30 years later

@Steven9567 They're literally not tho. Majority of everything made showcases white actors/actresses.
It's not crazy to reimagine stories differently.
This movie had auditions and they did not just tap Halle Bailey. The director said that she was the best for the role he imagined.
There is a conversation for raceswapping but you guys do it everytime without seeing if it's good or bad. Sometimes it's terrible and sometimes it's great.
If Ariel had been a real person, I could totally agree to this but Ariel is a mythical creature she could be purple and it not effect the story. Black people also have red hair, this is not exclusive to white people. All variations of hair and eye color are present in all people of all races. There a literally not breeds of humans because we are all generically so close.

Little mermaid. Velma. Batwoman swaps for no reason other than "because". It doesn't automatically help these groups just shows they can't come up with thier own ideas.
I'd rather see new characters than reworking old ones for the sake of woke points and especially how fast the shows or series bomb or get forgettable status
Ok, but little mermaid is live action tho, are you saying a black person shouldn't play a character just because they're a different race? What if they're a really good actor? Btw am playing devils advocate on purpose, you gotta argue against my point.
@@dattos140 Does it really matter if they are a good actor?
@@dattos140 Honestly I do get that view point but I just can't take the view seriously (at least from most people).
I can’t wait for the Shady Doorags review of Birth of a Nation!
Yeah, you would give that film a thumbs-up back in the a day. A racist like you could get behind something like that. I mean your white and acting like you speak for black people that is spinnless.
It's why they made Beauty and The Beast, The Lion King, Aladdin, and more into live action movies.
they can't remake Princess and the Frog in live action
No actor out there has enough swag to play Dr Facilier
They're doing remakes due to when the movie licenses expire. That's why Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast already happened. Though I'm surprised they haven't done anything with the B tier movies, like Herucles etc. But I don't have the movie release history memorized. Not looking forward to them butchering any of the Altantis and Lilo&Stitch and Brother Bear era. But they're milking their renaissance films for the while. Can't wait for Latina Snow White next.
@@diersteinjulien6773 some disagreement there, I've seen great Dr Facilier park performances - namely in the Halloween performance starring the Hocus Pocus witches, that dude was great (so was everyone, really)
@@QuincyQuinn95 oh, no, don't take me wrong, there are people out there able to do some GREAT performances as Facilier.
But none of them are A-list Hollywood actors and you know they would never cast a nobody in that role
So that’s why people hate miles
@@yamiq2996Glad you brought up Spider-Man 2099. Nobody was upset at him because he was actually a well-written character unlike Miles. It seems like they[Marvel] are trying way too hard to make him likable instead of writing him that way. If he was written like say a sidekick the way Robin was to Batman, maybe people would cut him some slack.

@AlphaWolfShade that's pretty typical for channel groupies and/or race grifters that would be interested in the black Ariel debate.
I'm just commenting how ineffective this guy's points were, and I know their ideology well enough to what would count as strong points (even if I disagree with them). Maybe he felt he had to go light on Shady because a white guy disagreeing with the lived experience of a black guy is bad optics.... or so to speak.

Congrats on your first rebuttal vid!
I found out that Halle was indeed selected from among a completely open list of female candidates, so her hire is legal. But the fact that they've since been flaunting her skin color above literally everything else tells you how much confidence they have in her performance actually being able to carry the film. And that might not be her fault. It could just be the writing. But they'll blame her for being black even though they are the ones who made that the most important thing about her. And then they'll call everyone who complains about the writing, pacing, editing, etc. "racist."
And her hair still isn't red enough!!

Also, kudos for recognizing the top tier song that is the Bunny Song.
Go ahead. Want to make it super realistic and have no magic yet have her confront her own stepmother (talking about ever after) go right ahead
Want to set it in the modern day where Cinderella goes to a high school in Beverly Hills? Go right ahead. The sky is the limit
What Disney is doing is is trying to redo the original while replacing the character design to appease to an ever angry, ever hungry crowd. I don't mind if they make Ariel black if they do something different with it. Hell I remember there's an African folk tale that's basically the little mermaid so why doesn't Disney do that one? Oh right that requires work and they're too lazy to do it
Ps I actually haven't seen that specific Cinderella movie. I've been wanting to see it for years but I've never had the chance to watch it. I didn't even knew it existed until a few years ago. Please tell me if it's good or not cuz I'm still curious. Personally I love Ella enchanted but I'm more than willing to explore lol
@@bluelanternguardianangel8038 I actually very much enjoyed that Cinderella movie
@@ToHoldNothing Whether it was forced or not, the movie is done is such a way that it never feels in your face

Side note:
The casting choice for Ariel was deliberate.

Those tactics are far too commonly used by dishonest people with no real argument to make. Sometimes the people are genuinely stupid and unintentionally misrepresent you and your argument, and you can sometimes find common ground and understanding with them, but that scenario seems rare.
Like this is a beach ball on a softball tee
Also he sounds like drunk Fry
Edit: Veggie Tales! And it's the episode that lives rent free in my head
Congratulations, Shady!
Once again, Shady manages to get across everything I yell at my screen when I accidentally watch one of those clown videos.
"He too could be a black mermaid" really took me out
