    Great work Dirk! I thoroughly enjoy your show. I've been into cubans for more than 20 years but on and off and mostly Montecristo. This summers visit to Cuba started the whole show going again. Just stocked up on Cubans and also on a lot of non-cubans. Haven't had one yet that comes close in taste, but there are many many great NC's out there. Let's hear some more NC/C reviews please!

    If I don't smoke a Cuban then you will see me smoking an Ashton VSG, La Gloria Cubana R Serie 7 (Dominican), La Liga Privada, Oliva V, Arturo Fuentes Añejo, or a Padron.

    If you want to try some good non-cubans: for Dominican try La Flor Dominicana & Arturo Fuente. For Nicaraguan try Liga Pirvada's & Padron Anniversary. For Honduran try Rocky Patel

    Hey Dirk ... I can recommend you to have some La Aurora Preferidos 1903 No. 2 Maduro Ruby.
    Expensive cigars from the Dom Rep, but really tasty.

    You are always going to have an issue smoking NC's. I was an NC>CC smoker for many years, as the price and availability was easier. As my palate grew, I have found that I mainly reach for CC's. I have found that NC tobacco has a very noticeable mineral element that is not helpful. I never noticed it until I went away, then back to NC's. They almost all have a dominant pepper taste too. It is something NC smokers don't notice until they go all CC for a while.
    I like your reviews, and would like to see some more of your ideas on NC tobacco reviews as a comparison. I cannot recommend any NC sticks that would be similar to CC's, but that is not a slight, just that they have their own profile.

    To comeback on the first (half) centimeter being strong and spicy from taste. most non cuban have this.
    I AM mostly An non cuban smoker and in love it.
    Only with the stronger cigars it can be a bit much

    Few (if anyone) with access to Cubans prefer non-Cubans. If one gets them for free- maybe... otherwise I think not.

      while that might be true, most who have access enjoy a nice dom rep and NC cigar as well! I am here in Austria and while I, of course, love Cubans I often do get a bit disappointed cause Cubans are like playing the lottery, sometimes
      With a premium one from Nicaragua you know what you get for your money, most of the time.
      Does happen quite a lot that I am opening my Cuban nd my non-cuban humidor and about 30-40% of the time I would rather smoke a really nice Oliva, a Davidoff Nicaragua etc than a Cuban that might not hold up to its expectations. - Also, about 15% - at least - of my Cubans have no "draw" at all since they are so tight...and that comes from someone who loves a somewhat tight, typically "Cuban" draw.

    • @DESCENDINGDR
      @DESCENDINGDR 6 лет назад

      Yes, I guess you're tight about the premium sticks from the Caribbeans. You can count on a good smoke, but at their absolute best they do not come close to a good Cuban. There is just something about them... the aroma- the taste, like nothing else on the planet.

      I'm don't agree with you. I'm a big fan about cigars and i have tried a lot (~150 differents brands) and i can say dire sure that i enjoy more a non-cuban cigar. The taste is very different but the 2 main arguments about the non-cuban cigar are :
      1. The quality. The draw is always perfect and the burn is always good. I'm more disapointed with the quality of the cubans.
      2. The science behind it. There is a LOT of possibilities in the diferents types on Tobaco and the region where it's grown. That can changes the flavours a lot. And there are so many different prosses like fire-cured or aging prosses.
      For me the cigars are more like à science.
      Ps: my english is a bit bad ^^"

      Cubans need aging and many are plugged/non smokeable. Try Padron anniversaries, minimum 2 yrs age some 8-9 years, and ALWAYS with perfect draw. They test for it prior to capping. So simple to ensure excellent, consistent draw. If you can't draw on the cigar, the whole thing is a waste. Until the Cuban brands demonstrate the same commitment to excellence, you will end up buying, holding/aging at your expense and will end up with 20% min plugged.

    • @DESCENDINGDR
      @DESCENDINGDR 6 лет назад +2

      I think you are alone with that opinion. Virtually all cigar smokers worldwide agree that the best quality and best tasting sticks come from Cuba. I have never heard anyone wish that Cuban brands would up their commitment to excellence. Are you kidding? And most quality Cuban brands are made with aged tobacco, some for years before you can get you hands on them. Without a doubt the best in the world come from Cuba.

    I like the video but I have to be honest...this is a weird comparison. Cigar Kings is a very small brand that is not available worldwide, I’ve tried getting them to ship to the U.S and they will not, we simply don’t know anything about the brand other than they use Nicaraguan tobacco, what farm in Nicaragua? Aged tobacco?. If you’re going to compare a Cuban to a Nicaraguan or Dominican I would compare it to a more established brand, for example a Drew Estate Herrera Estelí or a Tatuaje 10 Miami or if you want to up the price point, a Fuente OpusX. Cigar Kings does a good job with their social media presence but god damn...if you’re going to put yourself around the world via internet but they won’t supply to online retailers that ship to the states?!

    Agree with you. I only smoke Cuban cigars. It is the Cuban tobacco that does it for me. The only none Cubans that i do like and smoke is Padron, Oliva G Churchill, Nub and some Davidoff ...others taste just bland and boring kind of same plain .....most none Cubans to me is money wasted.

    I like non Cuban more. I like the taste of Nicaragua the most. Paradiso, La Galera, Oliva, Flores y Rodriguez, Placencia. This are my favorite Brand. Their Maduro Version i like the most. Cubans are over priced and have often bad draw and are bad rolled, bad quality.
