I love writing and playing riffs like this one. There is something about hitting those E5 / G5 / A5 power chords that just sounds good and feels good!
For anyone new to guitar, there are a few techniques going on in this riff: palm muting, alternate picking, slide, hammer-on, vibrato, left hand muting. On the latter, see my left hand fingers immediately after the first E note as an example of what I’m referring to; in conjunction with the picking hand, it is helping to play the rest intervals by cutting off string vibration. With those techniques and the basic ability to play power chords and move around the fretboard a bit, plus some sense of timing, it should be a riff that someone can learn to play.
Some tips for playing this riff:
As mentioned above, the left hand muting is important. Depending on the tone you use, things could sound messy without it.
In the part with the single note picking at 5th, 6th, 7th fret (see beat 3 of the first bar in the tab), I’m aiming to release the pressure on each note after it is played, rather than leaving fingers pressed down (which wont sound right here). This requires a good degree of finger independence, so if it feels tricky then it’ll be something to practice. Also on this part, the picking hand palm is lifted up after the palm-muted notes in order to grab the notes on the A string with up-picks.
Play full power chords as per the tab, not just root and 5th. For the G5 and A5 I’m using pinky for the D string, and lower part of index finger is used to mute G, B, and high e strings to prevent them ringing out.
The guitar in the video is an Ibanez RG652AHMFX-RPB, in standard tuning. Audio was recorded using a Positive Grid Spark amp as an audio interface and the tone was set in the Spark app.

That riff is wicked! Tone sounds awesome too. I have been considering the spark amp but there is something i want to know about it that no one has done a vid for, i wander if u can help me out. when using a distorted or heavy crunch tone, does the sound of the amp become clean when you roll down your guitars volume knob like it does on a tube amp? I would really apreciate your feedback on that. many thanks.

Hi Mohammad. Thanks for the comment! I just tried what you described with a few distorted / heavy crunch tones. Generally the sound cleaned up considerably as the volume reduced, but in most cases the cleanest it would get for me is a light crunch. With the tone in the video, it reached what I'd consider to be clean with the volume knob almost completely off. Hopefully that helps!
