Woolworths in Australia is not the same as in South Africa. Woolworths in South Africa is like a higher class whole food store. Woolworths in Australia is the equivalent of pick n pay or spar or even a checkers hyper. So woolworths South Africa charges alot higher than a pick n pay
I totally see that now that I’ve been here for quite a bit longer. And having been in Australia now for ten months I totally see the difference in quality of Woolworths. It’s great that South Africa has since many options though :)
The thong vs. g-string debate is cute. In the U.S there both underwear lol. We just call them flip flops or sandals. Alcohol is usually available until 2am in California,but in some states you can’t buy it on Sundays. It’s different state to state. Tipping at restaurants is a “polite” thing to do. In California we’ve been doing “public safety power outages” they’ll turn off our power when it’s unsafe weather conditions. They do it mainly during wildfire season. If it’s really windy they’ll turn it off to make sure downed lines won’t cause a fire. It’s very frustrating because it can be random but it’s for the public’s safety. It’s so interesting to hear about the differences and compare them to the US.

And I can totally relate to the frustration of the power being turned off - but luckily in your case its for the safely of everyone around. I love hearing about other countries. I live in Sacramento so they don't just turn the power off like that. A few years ago we had rolling Blackouts our kitchen didn't lose power, but they have not done that for a while.

South Africa also has drive through bottle shops. You just have to know where to find them 😁 Also, yes woolworths prices are similar to shops in Aus. But only because woolworths is 5x more expensive. Most SA’s who migrated to Australia complain about the high food prices.
With regards to the laid back think, I'm assuming you live in Joburg ? Coastal cities like Durban or Cape Town can be a lot more laid back and chilled.
I believe you missed one major difference between the two countries, and that is the cost of living. Australia is way more expensive than SA. The cost of food or services cannot be compared with SA. However, SA is at least as beautiful and developed enough to enjoy a nice level of comfort. In SA life is affordable for a regular tourist whereas in Australia it is not.
You’re so right! Australia is really expensive but it you’re a citizen you are illegible to help from the government. And subsidies for schools etc. I guess it becomes relative to what you earn. But in terms of traveling you’re so right.

Hi there..... I am an Australian living in SA for the past 40 years. I came here as an adult. I've learnt to speak 'South African' but certain words still give it away that I'm an Aussie....that drop aay sound. To my ear, you don't sound remotely Australian but very much a South African.... The real Australian accent has got vowel sounds unlike any other except for our New Zealand counter parts who speak in a similar way. ....So unless you were open to hearing a large majority of South Africans speaking whilst you were growing up in whichever part of Australia, losing an Aussie accent so fast in the time duration that you have lived in SA.....it wouldn't happen !

Your country is expensive to live in, I'm more likely to suffer poverty in Australia...some of us live in rural areas, we don't need income, we get our food from the garden and we own our land...Most south Africans don't even buy from Woolworths....

I just watched this whole video trying to figure out what her accent is. I'm really really good at picking accents. I picked an Iranian while he was speaking German (and I don't speak either). I picked a New Zealander who had been in Australia for 50 years. But I just can pick this "Ostranian". The problem is she sounds really South African, but, there are many words that are spoken which are pretty neutral and just sound Australian. But they may not sound South African at all. And I don't know enough about the various South African accents to see if her South African is genuine. So she may in fact be an Australian. Now, she says, "Austrania", I don't find this unusual at all. I've been telling everyone that the women in Australia have been pronouncing the name of our country differently for some years now. Before Iw as born, people used to say "OOOOOOOstaaaaaalia, in a faux British accent. Then people pronounced it, "AAsssraaaaylia" with some sections of the community saying "straaalya" and I think there was a revolt by younger women who now to my ears pronounce it "Ost-relia" (with an emphasis on "RALIA"), particularly on ABC. So it does not shock me that a younger girl from the northern territory (who the hell is from the Northern Territory anyway? seems like a place where they send people on witness protection programs) would take this to the next level and call our country "Ostrenia". Especially is she's been immersed in the South African culture for 7 years. Anyway, great videos, I will now watch them all (at work) and see if there are ay more clues to the riddle of this accent of yours.
South African here. Never compare biltong with jerky. Lol. Back in the day, many people did not have fences, if you did have a fence it would have been a wire fence, later on, that became concrete fences because a wire fence was just not anymore enough protection and then palisades became popular. In South Africa, people drive a bakkie, not a ute (not to be confused with a bakkie which is a bowl).

The Sad Part is the U.S. has no public health system. At least South Africa has such a thing and I knew Australia does. We only have Medicare in the U.S. for people over age 65. What's is U.S. health system. It's called walk into the emergency and by law they have to treat you. Why they even waste time sending you a bill you'll never pay is midboggeling. I've know so many people that 1) walk into the emergency room for something not that serious because we haven't a health system or 2) they walk into the emergency for a problem that had we a health system they would have been able to go to a doctor's office a week or so beforehand when it was still a small unserious issue before it became an actual emergency. So from what I understand at least in South Africa you can get treated for small issues for free correct??? In the U.S. it could cost you $50-$500+. OR you go to the emergency they send you a bill ( which is A WASTE OF TIME) because if you can't even afford $50 then obviously you won't be abel to pay a bill of thousands of $. It's sad more people then you'd realise don't have an extra $50 in the U.S. and this has been the case long before covid 19. If you are ill injered or a woman in labor in the U.S. the emergency room has to take you Regurdless if you never pay. They CAN'T do anything about it. Unless maybe you actually do win the lottery next week afterwards. But it's rediculess people must resort to that because we have no health system in the 1st place

Thankfully also that's NOT been such the case since 2017. But it's DISTURBING if you don't have $35 U.S. you then must walk into the emergency room likely because the problem is perhaps likely to become an emergency if you put it off until like next week so you just might end up their regurdless unfortiantaly. And you'll get a bill which you'll never pay. The only silver lining is they can NOT legally do anything about it. And if it weren't such a serious issue it would be a comedy skit to laugh at. Well if you're NOT a U.S. citizens I presume they could ban you from comming into the U.S. again if you don't pay but that's about it. They obviously can't ban you if you're a U.S. citizen. Interesting how some white people are so detached to their environment. The bus is for the community predominantly black- metrobus. So it doesn't bring black people it transports the community . You can catch a taxi..uber. taxify. YoTaxi or flag down a cab. Or you can take the train- Gautrain. Or if you are not scared of the blacks you can go to the rank and take a quantum. The high fences became a culture for white people because they were scared of the blacks which they moved from their land and dumped in slums. Townships don't have large fences. Loadshedding occurs because the 3% white families had electricity and when the democratic government came to power electricity was provided to everyone- obviously the power stations wouldn't keep up after adding another 40%. Workers get paid less because the economy is owned by predominantly white old men who don't believe women or black people deserve to or decent wages. That's why they fight the minimum wage government puts to the table. I love your videos. But educate Australians about injustices in South Africa. It's part of being in such a young country. 26 years old we still adjusting

We have a very very very high rate of teenage pregnancy I the U.S. for this so called ( developed country) some areas higher the South Africa... Correct me if I'm wrong but a pregnant 14/15 year old girl is Australia is very rare? Like trying to find a VRC for sale rare? Best I can think to compare. Yes if you go to a 2nd hand store on the right day likely after a few weeks of effort you'll probably find a VCR for like $10 somebody decided to donate that's been sitting in a box in their colset for a few years now but obviously you won't find any on the shelf at Best Buy anymore it's not like it's 1995 and they are something many people still want. We DON'T want teenage girls getting pregnant in the U.S. and we shouldn't have anywhere as many as we do unfortunately.
@@louisaMacQueen well Happy New Year so that we have a covid vaccine but we are so disorganised and have no health care system I hear romars of the possibility that aid from Unasef may be comming to help distribute. Now.. What's wrong with this picture??? Unasef may need to open up operation inside the United States??? Don't they go and offer aid to Rowonda and places as such??? That's right up their with Bill Gates walking into the welfare office and signing up for food stamps. OBVIOUSLY that IS NOT going to happen. It mindboggled me why the U.S. is still called a 1st world country. Oh something else worth mentioning the Northern 2/3 of the state of Mane they DON'T have electricity. Well they do BUT a catch they have it ONLY BECAUSE Canada is hooking them up the the Canadian power grid. So we don't even have infrostructure to supply everybody with electricity.

South Africa was divided into two worlds before democracy or during apartheid. There was a first world for white people, and a third world for black people. Interesting how some white people are so detached to their environment. The bus is for the community predominantly black- metrobus. So it doesn't bring black people it transports the community .
You can catch a taxi..uber. taxify. YoTaxi or flag down a cab. Or you can take the train- Gautrain. Or if you are not scared of the blacks you can go to the rank and take a quantum.
The high fences became a culture for white people because they were scared of the blacks which they moved from their land and dumped in slums. Townships don't have large fences.
Loadshedding occurs because the 3% white families had electricity and when the democratic government came to power electricity was provided to everyone- obviously the power stations wouldn't keep up after adding another 40%.
Workers get paid less because the economy is owned by predominantly white old men who don't believe women or black people deserve to or decent wages. That's why they fight the minimum wage government puts to the table.

I’d love for South Africa to get to a place of equality for all and I pray that the future will bring that for all South Africans.
