if you're doing a camo pattern, where you'll be doing 3 or more layers.. i recommend plugging the holes with silicone plugs (amazon) or cover your holes with the camo stencils, after your first coat.. or you WILL have tolerance issues with pins etc... but i still HIGHLY recommend the product.. now give us a couple more colors to play with Brownells! lol
Super helpful series, thank you! This gave me the courage to tackle it myself. Going to order me some alumahyde and paint my lower, upper and hand guard. Guess what color? Wolf Gray because I agree that it is the best color 😅.
This has been a great series of videos, thank you Caleb and Brownells. I recently painted a purplish anodized lower (UGLY!) matte black with Alumahyde and it came out great and after speed curing is hard as a rock, but now I have some additional tips for the next time.
I still taped up the inside of my receiver and the threads when I painted my upper. I did get minimal overspray on the inside but you can’t feel it and it doesn’t cause any issues. Great video as always.
Nice apron. I built my rifle to take out hunting so not having to take an heirloom out. It gets painted so much I forget what color it is. Like when I pulled my bow out and not remembering I had painted it again.
Assuming you clear the pickup tubes when you're done painting, what's the shelf life on the 'now opened' can of Alumahyde? Would it still be good a year later? 6 months? ... (edit) Also, any plans for a white, or off-whites, to do winter camo or Stormtrooper?
Generally, the lifespan of spray paint after opening the paint can is half the original lifespan. So, for instance, if the spray paint has four years left of its shelf life, opening the can cuts the shelf life to two years. However, it also depends on the type of paint.
Great idea for a follow-up video! Basically you would paint and cure your base coat, then paint over again and use a scotch bright pad or steel wool roughly 30 min after application to "wear" the paint down.
What about doing coatings on the inside of the upper receiver, with some type of Aluma-hyde or a Cerakote OR of a durable coating. I've heard of manufacturers doing it for longevity and lubricity, and no I am not talking about a dry lube, or stuff such as that.. I am talking actual coating of more permanent paint or Nitride, Nib, Titanium Nitride, Aluma-hyde Cerakote etc.
Do you have recommendations for polymer receivers? Also, a guy tells me he paints upper by leaving barrel in place, dust cover closed. Takes all kinds.
I don't worry about removing the forward assist when painting uppers. I suppose removing it to paint a different color makes sense. But, otherwise, simply painting it in place hasn't caused any problems for me.
@@jimziogas8978 the core painting was in the first 2 videos, and he didn't even paint in the first video, he was just giving background info and setup tips in that one. It's not hard, you just like whining.
@@jimziogas8978 "exactly" What, that you like whining? painting is easy, and easy to reapply, cerakote is for snobs and whiners. it would take more money AND more of my time to get something cerakoted. in the time it takes to drive to/from the place to get it cerakoted alone I'd already be done painting.
@@brownells alright seen the video, not sure why I haven’t seen it I’m subbbed. Anyways your Coyote brown is lighter than magpul fde. Coyote brown for everyone else is closer to your earth brown.
Brownells is the new Bob Ross.
Stay classy my friends.

Caleb. I have been enjoying this series!
Glad to hear it!
A threaded rod in the grip screw hole works great on a lower
These vids have been super helpful, thank you Caleb!
Happy to help!

Any tips on getting toes in frame fren? - TCNSPI
Great job with the series and the product. Looking forward to production catching up with demand

Another excellent video. Thank you. 👍
Thanks for the tips!👍

Is it possible to do a distressed, or battle worn look with this product? If so, how would you do that?

Amazing video, however i like how lucas does his, complete gun on gorund and rattle it
That's not a wrong way! This one is just much more durable. Different processes for different purposes.
Great series
I have a coat hanger rig with a swivel in the middle. That way I can spin the workpiece around.
Another Great Video 💯 Thanks💥💥💥💥💥💥💥

No coffee cups were harmed or painted in this video.

I would do the same. the only part needing paint is already exposed.
Wow common sense? Thanks so much Brownells
How long does Alumahyde need to dry before adding a second layer?
Where do you find that Black Iron Wire?
On our webpage
does almu hyde work well with raw lowers?
Yes!
You look like an old timey blacksmith
I like black

How do you guys get coyote brown color wrong?!? What a waste of $20. You guys are color blind. It’s basically the same as FDE.
We have a video on choosing Aluma-Hyde II colors that shows every color in detail.
