I'm 32 and was watching this show in 2004 on a channel called "RFDTV" haha. When I tell people I like all music, they really just don't understand what I mean.
Somehow I just remembered this. As a kid I would watch this with my abuela every friday and saturday night. I never knew I had German and polish roots until I looked into it. As a kid , i hated this lol I'd rather be watching disney channel or chatting w friends. This November, itll be 7 years that my abuela has past now and I'm thankful to have experienced this part of my culture and the memories I shared with her. Cherish your loved ones , especially your grandparents. RIP 💕 J. E. M. Gurganious 11/5/15 🙏🏼.
This is freaking awesome!!!! Can't wait to show this to my 89 year old mom. Used to watch this on RFD when we got that channel years ago. This and Molly B was the shits!!!!!
I love polka music and just came across this video. Don't know the title of the piece that was played, but it sounded exactly like the hymn , "Over In Glory Land"
Can someone tell us what Po.L.K.A.of A. Stands for? Our parents belonged and traveled all over to dance with this group (Nebraska). We still have their vests. My Mom is 97 and is Florence Bolte,my Dad, Harvey, passed several years ago. Florence does not remember but loves watching Big Joe shows, etc.
"POLKA" has more than one definition. Mainly, it means a fast dance for couples! It comes from the Polish word for "female" or "woman", or the Czech word for "half-step". In fact, here is some good information about the definition of "Polka": www.yourdictionary.com/polka
@barbs5727 it stands for the POlka Lovers Klub of America. The club was a nationwide club. I live in central Wisconsin and there were several people around the area who were members of the club.
I think the real test will be whether in a hundred years they still remember polka, like the centennial celebration of Frank Sinatra (2015). Snoop Dog what? who? Meat Loaf? what? Big Joe is more analogous to Ed Sullivan.
I’ll never forget big polka Joe in my life. 23 now and my pa would watch this everytime it was on. Great memories
