1. Lisa And The Devil 2. Shock 3. Black Sabbath 4. Bay Of Blood 5. Black Sunday When I used to run a film society back in the early to mid 90s, we managed to get a pristine 16mm film print in of Planet Of The Vampires. Although not in my top 5, I do love it and it was one of the most popular of our screenings. BTW the doco Dan talks about was actually British and was a bonus disc in an early to mid 2000s Bava DVD box set called “Masters Of Terror vol 1” released here in Australia by a company called Umbrella. It is indeed an excellent documentary and covers Bava’s career very well.

Nice job,Davy. I really enjoy hearing you ramble with that lovely Scottish accent. The John Phillip Law Sinbad film was actually The Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and did you realise,or was it a joke on your part, that when you mentioned acting wasn't Fabian's forte that Fabian's surname is .....Forte?!!
Really enjoy Rabid Dogs featuring George Eastman, most unexpected ending on any of his films. Shock as well, great performance by Diaria Nicolodi and of course, one of the earliest giallos, The Girl Who Knew Too Much with John Saxon.

Davy G choose a great selection movies & is always great to listen, each of you chose some top movies & you all certainly show passion & love of your movies.
My favorite horror director. As much as I love his gialli, I like his 60’s gothics more. Bava’s pre directing experience as a cameraman was the schooling Bava needed to make every frame of his best films look like beautiful paintings. My top five. 5. Lisa and the Devil - Creepy Telly Savalas, beautiful Elke Sommer and a bizarre film of sexual deprivation and strange mother relationships. Some of those alley shots are stunning. 4. Blood and Black Lace - Extreme violence and extreme pictorial beauty intertwine. So ahead of its time, the giallo was perfected here and in my opinion, never topped, with all due respect to Argento. 3. Black Sunday - Proof Bava can work black and white as well as the masters of the 30’s and 40’s. Along with the often forgotten MILL OF THE STONE WOMEN, this film truly kicked off great Italian gothic horror. Introduced the world to Barbara Steele as well. 2. The Whip and the Body - Possibly the most beautiful looking film I have ever seen when it comes to color, setting and shadow. My jaw dropped when I first saw this. Daliah Lavi is stunning and also one of Christopher Lee’s better roles. 1. Kill, Baby…Kill! - Another beautiful looking film, but this one looks like an extra layer of dust invaded the film stock, giving this movie such a unique atmosphere. The kid angle is creepy as all get out and the scenes of Giacomo Rossi-Stuart chasing himself and those ceiling shots of that winding staircase are incredible. Love the whole atmosphere of the town and love Erika Blanc as well. A creepy, atmospheric masterpiece. The fact Black Sabbath and A Bay of Blood didn’t make my top five shows how amazing Bava’s filmography is.
Davy is such a good pick for Monsters Den (well any SoT really), and I much enjoyed his contribution here. Good stuff. Of course Dan and Pete are beyond reproach as well !
