- Today I'll be talking about reality checks. Lucid dreaming reality checks are a lucid dreaming method that involve a form of test to see if you're awake or dreaming. Performed regularly, you can eventually end up performing them while dreaming, thus realising that it is in fact a dream and becoming lucid. In this video I share some easy to use reality checks and explain the best way to do reality checks for the highest success rate and best chance of lucid dreaming.

So I finally had my first lucid dream last night! A character in my dream was telling me how they wanted to lucid dream but they were struggling to do so. I told them to perform regular reality checks, and then proceeded to hold my nose and to my amazement I was able to breathe! Thanks tipharot for all of your tips 😀
Well that’s one way to do it! Lmao
The one time I remember doing a reality check in a dream by trying poking my finger through my hand, instead of it going
through, I could mush my skin around unnaturally..... I then proceeded to show my brother that I was dreaming *Face Palm*.
i cant move hands in my dreams. what do i do cause it is to hard.
@@samarit8280 it is most likely that your body is to tense you need to relax yourself and slowly train to move your arms and hands in my dream last night I was stuck fighting a deer and I had to use my. Hands to fight it it was odd
I also did a reality check in my dream. I had a dream and in that dream I was I another dream where I realised I was in a lucid dream and I looked at the clock and sure enough it it was not normal there was two 11's on the clock
@@mouseburger4183 it's odd you can move without moving I can think of moving and I'll move when I'm not thinking of the actual motions to move like what
you broke one of the rules of the dream now its gone, maybe if you meditate , it will go to stage 4
My old reality check is slapping myself. I did that once, the dream became lucid then it changed, then i woke up.
This video was just what I needed. Thanks!
I had a lucid dream from this thanks
it may sound weird but i do a reality check every time I wake up, and I just had a false awakening so I instantly became lucid. i had one of my best lucid dream
Ok... I started a dream journal about a year ago and I wrote down the dreams I remembered. The last dream I remembered I wrote down on Feburary 16th, 2016... I haven't remembered a dream for a year?
omg. this was very helpful. thank you for not being afraid of sharing weird topics.
I bet we do stuff like this and forget in out dreams often. “I need to do a reality check. *pulls out pc and googles something, looks away and back* drat my pc disappeared so I can’t check!” “Let’s imagine I’m somewhere else to see if I’m dreaming... *procedes to warp into Hawaii* nah I though of my room I guess I’m awake.
I am typing this comment from my dream world
whhAAAT??
can u do a video on your daily routine and go through each thing throughout the day. thanks
I'll be doing a video about Todoist at some point in the near future, and that will feature a lot of the things involved in my daily routine, since Todoist is the Todo list app I use to stay organised each day :)
Not sure if this was a lucid dream because I've never had one but I had an extremely clear dream on when I was flying and visiting islands. It felt as it was 2 hours long. I had control of the dream but didn't realise I was dreaming.
Sounds like a partial lucid! :)
this extremely helped me thx for your explanation. I had my first lucid dream but for some reason I felt like I woke up in another dream and that's when I wasn't lucid anymore help?
Surely if the letters in the book look weird then the numbers would too so how would you find that page?
You should just look away from the page but keep place of it with your hand
I just pretend I have magic powers and do that in me head when I remember to so I might do it in a dream. I just look at something and imagine trying to levitate it or myself, or I pretend I am somewhere else. Hasnt been carried into the dream yet though.
I half expected him to say before that I did a reality check, before that I realized i was probably dreaming, before that- WAIT.
I always counter my fingers. Has always works for me

I have dreams that I do reality checks and I know that I'm dreaming but really I don't know that I am dreaming.
He isn't lying when he says you have to really question if your dreaming. One time I was in a dream and I counted my fingers and had five, but after that I kept trying and I had a sixth finger on the 3rd try in that dream
I do the Finger and palm one, usually doesn't work in the dream, but I count my fingers as well... in my dreams I usually have about 12 fingers lol

thanks man!
I wish someone would check my reality
I needed this video. Thank you.
How often (roughly) do you think reality checks lead to you having a lucid dream?
It's not possible to give even a rough estimate for that because performing reality checks in a dream happens more frequently the more firmly ingrained the habit of performing reality checks is. So one person might perform reality checks all day every day and only get one lucid every 3-4 weeks from it - while another might get lucid dreams every single night from reality checks. The main factor is how long they've been doing reality checks for, and how often they remember to perform them etc.
I had a lucid dream for like 1 second a couple of nights ago, I was trying to fly and I realized I was dreaming. I couldn't smell or taste or feel anything, I got to scared of getting sleep paralyzed, the world began to spin and I woke up.
Keep it up. Check out my video about making your lucid dreams last longer to help deal with that issue (although sometimes no matter what you do, your lucid dreams will end quickly) ruclips.net/video/8x6rOMuJvjY/видео.html
my reality check is a 1-ounce silver coin, and a deep scar on my right hand. I pull my coin out, flip it, and check for my scar. Also,Remake the Lucid intimacy video. :)
hmmmmmmmmmmmm I had a dream after watching this video and it was at this part and I did a reality check...I punched my knee and I woke up and i was like "what the actuall fk.."
another reality check is to bite down on your tongue if u feel the pressure and pain on the tongue you’re in reality.
@Tipharot Another way to do a reality check is to draw a very random mark on your arm and if its not there during a dream or it is not exactly the right mark, then you are dreaming!
Ok so I was dreaming and was doing reality checks I tried pushing my finger through my hand and it had some resistance and I had to give more force to get it to go through, is this normal
I would say yeah, that was probably just your mind doing it’s normal “really weird dream” thing.
Will I for sure wake up when I do the reality check in my dream
Does pinching work as well like on tv?
I think pinching is when you want to wake up, (I mean in tv), but It might!
You can feel the pain/touch/smell etc in dreams so, in my opinion, it doesn't work!
I really enjoyed when you did the power point thing for your videos. Listing important things using bullet points and stuff, it's quite effective. I think you should do the same thing with what you do, and a bit of editing to have important details listed using bullet points next to your head or something.
Those style videos unfortunately take a LOT more editing time (we're talking quadrupling the time it takes to edit a video, which is already fairly long). So I try to save those for my more in depth and highly specific tutorials. That said I may try to play around with adding in more text information on screen in these talking-head style videos, and see how it looks/if I can do that in a reasonable amount of time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Tipharot It's fine, that sucks
How are you meant to reality check if you can’t control your dream, the only way to do something planned is if you can control yourself in a dream
I had a lucid dream last night. I was at school and I saw Ed Sheeran in my hallway. I immediately stuck my finger into my palm but it didn’t work. So I thought it was real life. He then broke his sun glasses and gave them to me. Later I went to go look for his sun glasses but they where all fixed up. I did the reality check again but it still didn’t work. So I just assumed I was sleeping and did weird stuff lol
Is it normal for when you do a reality check your finger doesn't go through but like, pushes your palm inwards like poking your finger through slime...?
2 years reality checks and NO results.Reality checks in my dreams appeared so LOW that I can count them on my Fingers.
Many dreams Iam visiting different places different stories.Everytime everything else so dream signs poor or something I missed
@tipharot If, when I dream, I end up not remembering even dreaming in my sleep will reality checks work? When I wake up it feels as if I dreamt 'black'. Nothing. Will this stop reality checks working? Many thanks,
Jonah
Parzival it shouldn’t, but their are some people that just don’t dream. It’s rare but it happens
going to try FILD heard it is very good
Good luck!
thanks :D
How can you decide in a dream what to do? Well I don't have any control on my dreams
how am i supposed to do a reality check in a dream since i dont have control over what happens
You shoukd doing reality checks in REAL LIFE. If you doing this often, there's a chance of you automaticlly doing a reality checks in a dream and boom!
Lucid!
I've been trying for a long time now and I still have yet to have a lucid dream 😭
Hairashi 696 have you had one in the past two years?
Past 4 years?
@@CheezyCEAnimation i kinda stopped trying a long time ago sorry m8
Once I performed a reality check in a dream but I didn't realize that I was in the dream :D
I somehow thought that the air I breathed was coming through my mouth :D
I was very pissed when I woke up.
Yep, definitely happens! That's why I take my reality checks slow and carefully now!
I am trying to lucid dream for 2 weeks now, but at the moment i haven't got one so far..., I watched your how to lucid dream tonight video and try it everyday. Unfortunately, i still don't have got a lucid dream .. . Do you have tips for me?
Check my "Why can't I lucid dream?" video for some of the common reasons you might not be succeeding. Also feel free to experiment with other methods if nothing in that video applies to you.
So if I’m dreaming right , Nd I do a reality check and I know I’m dreaming is that the same thing as lucid dreaming ?
Don’t think so.. you have to be more aware. More like YOURE in control not your weird dream brain. You might know you’re in A dream but still do what you’re brain wants you to do, and I wouldn’t count that.. close though :)
Tipharot I had a dream last night where I did a reality check and it was me counting my fingers and I had 6 on one hand. But for some reason I knew I was dreaming but not really if that makes sense? I did everything that I wanted to do in a lucid dream in the dream but it didn’t feel real. Is this a sign that I’m close to having a lucid dream? And can you ONLY use reality checks to lucid dream without a method?
sometimes i don't woke up even i get excited, but i don't know how. can you tell us how to keep dreaming and don't wake up. like
sometimes i know i am dreaming but i can't wake up even i wanted to wake up, i want to know how to control it.
I have a video all about that, check it out: ruclips.net/video/8x6rOMuJvjY/видео.html
Does anyone knows if musics can help with this?, for exameple everytime i hear a music, i'll do a reality check, so i'll add an alarm to that music in early morning (where rem happens a lot) thus, heating the music in the dream should make me do a reality check on it, i had this wierd experience where my alarm went off and i could hear it inside the dream before waking up
hey Matt in my last dream I "woke" up in my dream and I did the normal things I do in my life but I want to wear my jacket and I had put it somewere in the house and I went to get it but it wasn't there ... then I said ... wait I'm dreaming but the dream start to ruin ... I rub my hands but it didn't work 😭😭... why help me please
Check my video about making your dreams longer. For me the hand rubbing thing never works anymore, so I have some other suggestions in the video: ruclips.net/video/8x6rOMuJvjY/видео.html
Tipharot which is the best method for you ?
Help I have a hole in my hand how else can I do a reality check 😭😭😭😭
You can pinch your nose closed and try to breathe through it, try to use dream control try to read something (a lot of the time text in dreams is off), count your fingers. There should be
Wait, can you feel pain in lucid dreams. Like getting stabbed in the gut or shot. jesus what freeking question :|
Just Why No, when something harms you in a dream it sort of feels like someone pressing softly against you.
okay, so now I can shoot myself in a dream
Yes, you can have pain.
@Dustyveonやっかい you can. It's just if you aren't you don't want to feel pain.
Damn you now I am scared there is going to come a huge spider leg through my window because I don't know if I'm dreaming!
The "poking your hand with your finger" doesn't work with Jesus
I'm sorry but I couldn't miss this joke
i have been trying to lucid dream for a month so im hoping for some help here because my main issue right not are forgetting to reality check, and all my of my dreams dont even have me in them its like watching a movie or video, it may have people i know but now me any help?
If your dreams don't feature you then reality checks might not work for you. However one thing you could try, is actually performing reality checks every time you find yourself watching a movie or video, in case that association is enough to cause you to perform one during your dreams. (You may find that you actually //are// present in your dreams, just you don't notice yourself because you're busy watching the scene almost like if you were watching your tv screen or computer screen)
thank you this should help alot.
You have to have quality reality checks. Also meditation and maintaining a clear mind and a balanced set of emotions are vital. If your world view is rigid or you aren't mentally adaptable and open you will likely not be able to have one. The clearer you can live in the real world the cleaeer your dreams will become. Personally my screen saver on my phone has the words "are you dreaming?". Mix it up and stay consistent in quality as well and you will make it
When I dream its like i'm watching a movie and things just happen. I don't always have control over my own body so its not always like I can think to do a reality check. Can you offer any adivce please?
You do actually have control you just don't remember it because you weren't lucid. When you remember those dreams they appear like movies. While you're in them, you think you're awake and in real life. That's why reality checks will work, because you'll think you're awake, and then perform one, only to realise you get lucid.
Just perform them often enough and take them seriously enough, and it'll happen.
remember when u had 10k subs :D
I have a quick question, I realized I was dreaming but when I did the scene disappeared and lots of 2d images flashed and I got too excited and woke up, does this count as a lucid dream or some sort of hybrid? how can I prevent the scene from changing?
That's pretty normal. You're VERY close to wakefulness in a lucid dream so the excitement from realising it's a dream can and will often cause the dream to end right away. It's annoying, but you get used to it, and thankfully there are a lot of measures you can take to prevent this from happening. See my video about it: ruclips.net/video/8x6rOMuJvjY/видео.html
2:15 It shouldn't work... SHOULDN'T what universe are u from
Fgs Matt...3 weeks and I just had 1 lucid dream and I'v been trying Fild for 5 Days but every time I try to relax and wait until I get to before sleep state to do Fild I just found my self in the Morning without even Knowing...please any help with that :}
Try adding in the mantra from MILD before you do FILD, that way if you just fall asleep normally you still have a shot at getting lucid!
LoL...Never thought about it...good 1 tho...thx :)
Your video quality is great and your voice is very calming but I still have to criticize your video. Reality Checks/Tests are just not worth for what you are doing. Yes, you will have a couple lucid dreams with Reality Checks but it's just not worth the effort. For having multiple lucid dreams in a night or even in a week you would have to make a reality test like 300 times or they would just have to be really, really... really important for you. And still, you can have so many more lucid dreams with less effort. For example: If your reality checks are so important for you that you have them always on your mind or just do them many, many times, you can just do dream yoga where you see your life as a dream 24/7. And then you will bring that thought in the dream and you're lucid. Or something more popular and easier with less time effort: Just think critically about the environment. Where did I come from so I'm here? What have I done in the last 15 minutes? Where am I? Is everything logic here? Just like Stephen LaBerge describes these techniques in his book. And Reality Checks are just things which happen because you await them to happen. And that can be a really bad thing in lucid dreaming too. Just like the beginner Myth: I can't read books in lucid dreams. Or: I can't read the same text twice. All these things really happen to beginners just because they believe it does. But when you really think about it: Why would that not even work? Everything works in a lucid dream, why not these couple things? Right, there is no reason for it and if you are trying these things more often and neutral you will see that they don't occur anymore. In the context of the reality check, this is not a particularly "Bad thing" but it still is an action where you put yourself in a cage. You can in fact not breath through your nose in a dream. You can have the feeling to fly, too. You can also feel pain in your lucid dreams if you want to. You can do everything and not do everything but it's just a matter of thinking. Another thing to mention is that Reality Checks bring so less lucidity. 5:30 right and there is the point to not stick your finger through your hand but to think: Is this environment logical, etc.?And I think beginners should directly be pushed more in the direction of just thinking critically or something like that. Or just not get told that WILD is harder than DILD, etc.
And I mean, maybe you know that and just want to bring reality checks to beginners because they are so "easy" but still.
Would I good reality check be blinking... wait but that would wake you up... nevermind...
