I'm not a religious person at all but I have so much respect for AB in his convictions and how humble he is. BTW Chris you're doing a fantastic job with these conversations, a lot of interviewers I see will kind of rapid fire topics like they got somewhere to be, but you make sure the topics are more fleshed out before moving on. You are killing it

A lot of these points you made regarding ego hit very close to home for me. I lead a small group of people and during SFV ego played a huge part of my growth being stunted because I was not only jealous of the higher performing people in my group, but as a Ken player I felt that my legacy knowledge made me better than I was . The minute I took ego out of it and decided to try and be humble that was when my gameplay improved but not only just that but the relationships between me and my teammates also got better. Now in SF6 we’re thriving and it’s in no small part because of me losing my ego and being kinder to myself. Thank you for these insights, the FGC needs more conversations like these.

That was a great conversation, thank you both. Here's my 2 favorite quotes from this episode, from Angrybird:
"You should accept reality more than complaining. That's what makes the difference beteeen the best, and [one step] below the best. The best accept realities as they are, and try to adapt to them. The people below the best? ...Very good, but they don't accept reality."
    And
"Play for yourself. If you don't feel like playing for yourself, don't go to that tournament. When you go, make sure you are playing ONLY for you. Not to prove anything to anyone else, not to play for people's expectation... who cares? At the end we are all going to die ... whatever people think about you is not going to matter anymore."

These interviews have been fantastic. If I may offer a tiny bit of interview technique advice: it's usually best to ask one question at the time. I think you're gradually realising this naturally, but the multiple-questions-all-at-once not only puts more burden on the interviewee (and translator if present as in the Infiltration interview) but also the viewer somewhat. The interviewee may often choose the bit of the question they're most comfortable with (or simply remember) then you gotta ask again anyway :) It's always possible to link or widen the conversation to other topics with "following on from that..." or "expanding on that...". Just my 2c on a tiny way to level up even more - overall amazing work!

Hej, just wanted to drop this for the algorithm. But i really love this series. FGs can just be a game to some if not most players, but if you dig deep, they can be so much more. I can't stress enough how important this very episode is to me. I'm fighting my ego for almost twenty years now, since it kinda developed a life on it's own in my head, and FGs and their humbling nature are such a great way and chance to learn to deal with something that has in part ruined things for me that i used to love doing. Thank you very much. The fact that it's my two favorite Kens in the world talking makes it just that much better.

I went to arcades, but never had money to play. So I just watched, and would then invite people to my house to play, just to prove that I was good if I had a controller (SNES, at the time). These stories, even though 30+ years later, remind me of my beginnings. Good Times😊..

I would like to know who uses what in terms of sticks and gates. Is this information available? I just put an octagonal gate on my stick and now I can react like Modern players with Supers. I've noticed Angrybird walks and blocks like he's on hitbox but he uses stick. I've also noticed he uses many different sticks. Is his lever a normal Sanwa?

@@christatarian2504 Playing with a square gate is insane, indeed. I've been sticking with it because every GOAT used it but then Justing Wong started using a Korean lever (all of which have diagonals, because of Tekken I think) and mentioning he can feel the corners better, so I switched my gate. The improvement was immediate.

    Changes to Parry
1 - I'd make regular parry regain meter equal to the meter the move usually drains. Right now parry regain 1 bar regardless of what normal it parries and 2 bars regardless of what supers it parries. I'd keep meter gain for regular parrying a fireball the same but make perfect parrying a fireball gain 1 bar instead.
2 - I'd increase regular parry active frames from 8 to 12 while keeping the total frames the same.
3 - If parry connects withing the first 2 frames you get perfect parry, if it connects within 3rd to 8th frame you get normal frame situation(same as block), if it connects within 9th to 12th frame you get additional -2f situation. There should be a new animation for parry on the 9th to 12th frame to let players know they are in an additional -2f situation.
4 - Getting thrown when in parry state drains 1.5 drive meter instead of just 1.
These change should encourage players to use parry as a reactional move, 12 active frames is lenient but it still has to be timed and has modest meter gain. Its used more for perfect parry attempt and meter protection, not for meter building. There's better reward for better timed parry and more risk for a loosely timed one.
    Changes to drive rush
1 - Getting hit while in drive rush state will always trigger punish counter state
2 - Raw drive rush attacks no longer drain opponent's drive meter on block
Right now raw drive rush is used to skip neutral easily, and it has the advantage of giving oki with the natural +4f advantage, it also drains opponent's meter on block while regenerating yours. For such little cost, the advantage is huge. Making it a punish counter state whenever you are hit in drive rush state(green) guarantees some meter drain and allows for bigger combos and punish, directly increasing the reward of checking drive rushes and reducing the risk of blocking drive rushes.
    Changes to drive reversal
1 - Double the drive reversal grey health damage from 500 to 1000.
2 - Reduce the drive reversal meter cost activated from parry state from 2 bars to 1 bar. Drive reversal cost activated from block remains at 2 bars.
This should make successful drive reversal slightly more rewarding. And the reduced cost from parry drive reversal helps to offset the parry meter gain nerf.
    Changes to burnout
1 - Reduce the natural frame disadvantage for blocking in burnout from -4f to -2f but make burnout duration last twice as long.
2 - Increase the drive meter gain in burnout by 20% when attacking or blocking. Natural drive meter regeneration remains the same.
Right now, the game is all about skipping neutral with raw drive rush and buffering drive rush cancel with 2mk or 2mp. There is very little actual footsie and neutral game, much less hit confirms because of buffered drive rush cancel that is not only safe, it also gives extended pressure with +4f advantage. Making burnout last twice as long will make players think twice about using raw drive rushes and buffering drive rush cancel like its free. It is however balanced by reducing the frame disadvantage for blocking in burnout and increase meter gain for defending and attacking so players have a better fighting chance in burnout than before. These changes will promote actual footsie and neutral game instead of just mindlessly skipping neutral.

    Comment before starting to listen:
Would love to see someone like SonicFox at some point to hear the perspective of someone who’s new(er) to the FGC scene compared to some other guests you’ve had on to see what/if the contrast is on perspectives of how the scene has grown over the years to include more and more types of people. Now to listen to the episode🤙🏼

Hey, Chris, if possible ask your guests the old vs new games question while the topic is still hot after ryan hart's interview, would be cool if you invite Ryan once again to elaborate on that and adress the criticism from notable players

      @christatarian2504  6 месяцев назад +4

I asked Ryan and he’s not interested rn, but maybe in the future, I promise you, not the next episode, but the episode after that I will have a guest that will answer that question ;) and you’re gona be mind blown when you see who that guest is

The Cammy corner wakeup game is the same against every character, I don't get how it's a Ken specific thing, in fact its even more of a nightmare for characters that don't have a side switch combo (Ken has one) after she switches positions.

As a Luke player, I have to say he kinda exposed me. This is the mistake I see so many players make against me : trying to enforce their own game plan on Luke. It doesn’t work. I’m a defensive player. I will check you with sandblast, get a small life lead walk back and let you dig your own grave. Like angry bird mentioned. Me crouching covers all your offensive options. You jump I down heavy. You walk in I down medium kick. You are in my face I down medium punch and I’m plus. Your goal against Luke should be like he said, get a life lead and let him chase you. Not to downplay Luke. He is one of the best in the game for sure. But people that act like the gap between characters is so big mostly have no clue what to do against him.

I mean he lives in the Middle East, and Chris had to screen record the FaceTime/discord/zoom. So It makes sense it’s not perfect quality. No where else, however will you find this amount if personal angrybird info about his training regimen or his up bringing. Good stuff to him and Chris.

I can understand the frustration considering the minor inconvenience, however, the quality of the discussion itself is worth the listen. I wasn’t trying to be passive aggressive, nor is my response objectively speaking, passive aggressive. I was just stating that for anyone who’s looking to get better in a respective field, if one of the goats within that field is sharing his mind, the listener is listening eagerly regardless of audio issues. I take criticism from many always try to view it from their perspective, however, when the perspective is from one who’s simply not driven enough to bypass a first world problem (that is understandable given the context), in the name of becoming stronger, then that perspective doesn’t come off as criticism, but comes off a bit whiny.
