Shoutouts Fubar Duck! Thanks for the translations man. Tokido's English has definitely gotten better over the years, but it's nice to hear him talk a bit more comfortably in his own language.
I love how tokido is very humble and it really opens up new perspectives on how he really loves and cares about the street fighter community and wants the best for the game and players
Love this podcast! Chris T you are the man! It would be incredible (for all the old heads & those learning about FGC history 🙋♂️) to bring in Tomo Ohira.
Bro bro bro! The hits keep coming. Thank you so much to you and your guests for making yourselves so accessible. This is the shit I love about subcultures is how regular people at the top skill levels are, no walls just community. If you haven't been elevated to the status of the 'People's Champion' you are making a strong case for yourself as you are doing an exemplary job delivering to the community.
A follow up to one of the questions you asked with regards to training differences reminded me of this interview PhiDx did with Spag who is British but is of Pakistani descent and has been to Pakistan where Arslan Ash and all of them play. It's a great interview, you'd appreciate it because of how just... rugged that scene is. I bring it up because they Spag talks about how the Pakistanis train for Tekken and he said they spend a lot of time focusing just on reactions. They will have the dummy perform the same move, no variation or wiggling, just the same move for like 100 times and just drill reactions to it. And since they play like 12-16 hours a day they just get so much volume and have so much time to grind those little details, it felt similar to what you were described in how Japanese players train, just focusing on one small part and doing it like 100-200 times in a row.
Watching Tokido talk about the FGC legacy of Japan reminds me of the time Tokido said “Fighting Games are Great” and he made James Chen cry because he got so emotional by what Tokido said 😂 that’s so awesome ❤
Great interview, thanks for taking the time to highlight the difference between the eastern and western mindsets on training an approach/mindset when deciding what they think is better for the game - what they think is better for everyone as a whole which by extension would benefit them indirectly vs purely what would benefit them directly
Amazing work Chris. Im a fgc boomer in my mid 30s and this is the kinda content I'm hungry for in the fgc. I think another great guest if you don't have it lined up would be Xian! Keep going bro!
fantastic pod as always! it seems like the internet has made the different regions become similar over time, but it is very interesting to hear about how things were different when you were all coming up. thanks to fubarduck for translating too! everything was very clear and easy to understand and the conversation flowed very well.
I have new found respect for Tokido! He is truly a man of the people and the community. Love all his answers to the questions and wish all top players think about the community as a whole and just the FGC illuminati
@@christatarian2504I’ve heard of him but never watched. Tekken 8 is my first fighting game, but there’s alot of takeaways from your videos that carry over. Love the content brother! 💪🏼 Good bless you and your family, keep it up!
If you look at the country of Japan as a culture, when they dedicate themselves to anything, they put 100% into it. They live & breathe it. Even if they didn't invent or originate something, with enough time, they will not only master it .. they will do it better then other countries in which it originated. For example, Shohei Ohtani did something that was thought of as impossible. Hitting 40 + Home Runs (won MVP) AND pitched elite to place top 4 ranking for Cy Young. Look at the how superior Honda's & Toyotas are. If you caught the most recent world cup, they're getting better at the game of soccer too. A well rounded inspirational culture, that we can all learn from.
Whenever I see Tokido playing in tournaments he does this Sigh and deep breath 😮💨 I always imagine this Samurai or warrior taking a deep breath between Battles against a bunch of enemies 😂 it’s so great .. love Tokido .. he’s such a great player and such a cool dude ❤
Yes that will be uploaded maybe in the next 2 weeks, my editor is on vacation this week so he can’t do it yet, but after next Mondays episode we will work on having original untranslated episodes for not only tokido, but infiltration and other guests in the future
These are so great the questions are awesome and you have a great voice Chris. But I feel like it would just look a lot better if you could keep your phone and notes out of view of the camera, or in a position where you don't have to look down so much to check them.
Yoooo this man actually got the legendary MurderFace AKA The DEMON himself!??😮🔥🙌🏿💯💯💯 You are quickly becoming the FGC Interview 🐐 Huge props. Keep it up and blessings my brotha 🙏🏿💯✊🏿
Loved the super humble answers about Japanese training but they have a completely different mindset from us beyond even the arcades. When was the last time you heard somebody in the US took on a student? We either pay for coaching, have a friend who's good, or do our best with what we can find online. It seems like they have a culture of self-improvement through cooperation that's almost common sense so they don't even notice it.

these are great interviews, thanks for doing them. in the future you can phrase your questions directly to the person being interviewed and not the translator, this is the standard practice, otherwise it sounds awkward as if you're talking about tokido and he isn't even in the room
I think next time, doing subtitles with non-english speakers would be best. Especially a guy like Tokido, since we're so familiar with his voice, its kinda strange hearing an overdub on his voice. But, good stuff regardless.
