This video series with all the details, has really helped me working on my Duotron! You might not get quite as many viewers, but those of us watching really appreciate it.
The heck with those other guys. I like the deep dives and the multi-part ones. There is a sense of satisfaction when working through the problems. To my eyes, the right flipper seems like it wasn't coming down as far as the left.
FWIW - Watching several series like this gave me the courage to replace a few transistors on my '87 Gottlieb Monte Carlo, after owning the machine for 20+ years. I still have more things to fix so keep 'em coming!
Electro mechanical pinball repair, the Mount Everest of troubleshooting skills. If you were to go back to the summer of 1976 I bet you would find some young service technician started chasing the tail of the dragon on this machine and gave up, enter Ron 50 years later who plants his flag and is victorious. It appears from all the notes on the schematics that you solved a decades old mystery. The 30 second attention span blip blop crowd can kick sand. You guys rock! Thanks for sharing your thought process and taking the time to edit a video to share with the world. Have a great Labor Day Joe and Ron!
On my Target Alpha it had problems kicking the ball out. I replaced that coil with a pop bumper coil, and it works great now. I also replaced the factory coil in the knocker with a pop bumper coil, and that baby really thumps now. It sounds like a sledge hammer hitting the cabinet. Beautiful sound.
I don't see how people get bored of watching the series of videos on a single game! Especially when they are as fascinating as this one! I'm learning how to read schematics just because of for interested your videos have gotten me into all this! Love it!
On my Abracadabra i had years ago it also had that same trouble of the ball kicking out on game over.. on my game it was caused by a worn rivet/contact on the ball count unit on the 'ball 5' position. repairing the rivet cured the problem. Dumbest thing i ever did was selling that game (watching this series of repair videos reminded me of how much i miss my Abracadabra!!)
Hi guys, I agree with the other comments about how can people get bored with the longer videos??? It's great to see the games coming along and getting back to what they should be. If your doing your own repairs this is exactly what it's like, a lot of trial and error, this is another honest video. Thanks for posting and I love the layout of this playfield to.
Enjoyed the whole hour of troubleshooting. Thanks to your patient teaching I’m now a whole lot better at reading schematics for my own games. Thank so much Ronnie. Have a grand day.
The little ball eject that could. I think I can, I think I can, here's your ball! 😅 Yes, we can all benefit from a level playing field too! 🙂 Super cool dive into the weeds and making the right fix even discovering how somebody made it work back in the mists of time when they probably didn't have and couldn't get the right parts. Fun game, neat seeing it working again! 😃
When you think about how they designed these old e.m. pinball machines; they were basically computer programming. I bet they used flow charts and everything. Computers are binary and so are switches. A computer is essentially a bunch of purely electronic switches. These designers were brilliant.
I don’t really like playing th old EM’s but dam are they a beautiful piece of engineering. I can fully appreciate what they did with just leaf switches back then . Amazing .
I like playing the old pinball machines. I can imagine how our parents left their money in the arcades and had fun. But what I'm particularly interested in is the history of the pinball machine. Whether it comes from a story or a film. That the designer then created it as a plan. In the retro clubs that I regularly visit, they have a lot of old machines.😃
I love the gameplay in this one. It's quite complex, but it looks like it would be a lot of fun and a takes a little thinking to get the really high scores. It proves Gottlieb were the masters of the EM Pinball scene
Ron thanks so much for your time can you make a video on using a multi meter and the components you test examples diodes, hots, caps, rectifiers and so on what you'll find on a pinball. Its because Ron you explain it so well .Thanks
I played the Add-a-Ball Version of this game. Team One, which was manufactured two years later and it is a soccer themed game. The other difference is it has numbers 1 through 6, and it also has the numbers 5 and 6 behind the first drop target in each row at the top of the playfield.
Abra Ca Dabra It's FM F'ing Magic Long Video series never get tired of them. You could have done one video on rebuilding drop targets. The last guy working on this thing didn't have the internet. Or PB resource. We live in a wonder time.
I love these videos, with my limited knowledge (Come, Come on poeple I am learning. :) While watching the videos I find myself thinking yep I have identiy the problem... sometimes yeah, but most of the time no. I dont know how you figure it out Ronnie. Alot of patience. Good Stuff!
Hi Ron love all the videos I always watch them all no matter how many there are. Are you planning a video series for the Fun House you have I would love to see them.
They have addressed the bingo machines before and unfortunately they don’t really sell very well at all . They take a ton of work to get going and you can’t get a return on your time investment. Just not many people are looking for bingo machines these days . I agree with you though , would be awesome to see them repair one !
I'd watch all the videos if there were 20 in the series. Very complex but explaned very well? You wouldn't of thought that coil would've made that difference.
Thanks for posting these and sharing the experience necessary to make these EM machines work! I’m looking forward to getting one for the kids. FWIW, I’ve noticed a “Abracadabra” for sale online this week. Timing the sale of an identical EM machine with your videos might be a good idea.
How did they figure out the resistance of adding another coil? R1+R2 over R1X R2. Relay coil 1 resistance, and R2 coil. In parallel, total will be less than either coil by themselves.
Those outhole kickers need to hit the ball in its center, else it will send it into the side of the trough, bouncing back and forth and robbing momentum with each hit.
I have a Question Ron . Do you and Joe plan on repairing one of your EM Gun Games in a Video ? I did a Williams Sniper a year ago and in a Week i am gonna buy a MIDWAY Haunted House. Would be cool to see a repair of one of those. Keep Up the Videos and good Work . And Helping People Bring Back the old Beautys to life
Ron's done a bunch of cool different things but never the EM gun games. Did one 10 years ago and thought it was a lot of fun but trying to get the tape sound going was futile. Ended up recording internet sounds of a shooting arcade and putting it on a cheap cassette player and wiring it in to the game over relay so that it would run while the game did. Used a 90 minute tape of continuous repeats of my recorded track and just had to flip the tape when it ended. Worked great and didn't have to figure out the 4 or 8 track machine it came with that had failed.
@@LyonsArcadelooking forward to any of the older gun games myself. Great video (s) as usual Ronnie, and enjoying every second. I’d watch hour long, two hour long, 30 seconds long, whatever… I enjoy and learn new things every single time. 5-part, 20-part, whatever… each and every one is a Diamond. Thank you once again for taking the time to make these, edit them (and all the other behind the scenes bits) , and share them. Regards.

Thank you for the content Ron.

actually Joe, i dont get tired of multi-episode repair videos. I always look forward to the next one and what you find and fix! Keep 'em coming!
Wow. What a killer EM. I dig it!

All that complex programming that went into this EM! Awesome episode, thanks!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The OG's don't stop watching! Love the machine. Keep the videos coming!
Great work detective Ron 🕵
I never get tired of these long repair videos ,,, super interesting watching all the repairs ,keep,it up !

Another Great Repair Video , Love To see a Riffle Games soon , please...
I watch all your videos, even the multiple ones of the same machine, they are fantastic, please keep them comming:)

Great work on this sweet Gottlieb! 🙌🙌🙌
The loose rivet problem is hard to find. Good to see how you did that and normalizing to see the perseverance it takes. Cool.

Awesome repair videos
Interesting machine. Thanks for the video Ron!
Hi Ron love all the videos I always watch them all no matter how many there are. Are you planning a video series for the Fun House you have I would love to see them.
Yes we will do a Series on it when we get to it, Wizard and Whirlwind pinballs are next. Thanks for watching!
Great video. That bingo machine in the back looked interesting. I would love to see the bingo machine repaired for something different.
They have addressed the bingo machines before and unfortunately they don’t really sell very well at all . They take a ton of work to get going and you can’t get a return on your time investment. Just not many people are looking for bingo machines these days . I agree with you though , would be awesome to see them repair one !
Thanks dude; God bless.
This was a fun video. Looks like fun to play as well.
Cheers 🍺
You earned your paycheck on this one for sure. Excellent D&R
I'd watch all the videos if there were 20 in the series. Very complex but explaned very well? You wouldn't of thought that coil would've made that difference.
Great schematics explanation, great video and great game!
It's a good thing you know what you're doing. Looking at all those switches and relays make my head hurt.

They should send me a Commission check
I am working on this machine right now. Thank you for your work with this video! It will help me through! Where did you find the rubber?
The old one please. Thankyou
This is, in fact, epic.
These mechanical machines blow my mind how they figured out how to make things work without electronics. Its just a big box of switches and relays.
Q coil may have a shorted turn or two in its windings. It would conduct but not magnetize as well.

I am just wondering is there one pinball machine you'd like to own but never have?
Not really I just enjoy working on them and getting another one in to work on i've never seen before...
Best spinner I've ever heard was from star trek
How did they figure out the resistance of adding another coil? R1+R2 over R1X R2. Relay coil 1 resistance, and R2 coil. In parallel, total will be less than either coil by themselves.
Do you have another star trek machine to restore? My favourite in memory.
Not right now, Wizard and Whirlwind are next
Those outhole kickers need to hit the ball in its center, else it will send it into the side of the trough, bouncing back and forth and robbing momentum with each hit.
Do new pinball machines look roughly the same inside or are they totally different now?
Roughly the same just not as many contacts and they have a Computer board that controls a lot of stuff
Hey Ron!!
Hey Jason!
6.5 ohms, yeah, so the wrong coil would not pull enough current to pull both coils, so that makes sense.
🔥
