    Can you explain how top law schools evaluate extracurriculars, I have just graduated high school but i will be entering my college as a junior bc of credits, i feel as though i wont have enough time to develop strong extracurriculars. What do you suggest, and what do law schools look at in terms of extracurriculars?

      I have classmates that built an impressive set of professional experiences by working for several years before law school (consulting, finance, politics, etc.). I also have classmates that came straight from undergrad with no work experience. I would just recommend picking something things that interest you. I am doing a Q&A video with the dean of admissions next week and we will go over how they evaluate extra curricular in more detail :)

    Thank you so much for sharing please I have a question regarding the recommendation letters...did you start building a relationship with the professors your junior year? Did you just chill in their office hours or did you make sure you had a course with them each quarter/semester. I'm just tryna figure it out. Also did you go straight into law school?

    • @LifeAfterHarvard
      @LifeAfterHarvard  4 года назад +2

      hey! So I was in school for ~3 years. My first year, I did not like my professors and -- even if I did -- I would have been too nervous to go to office hours. However, by my second year, I had two professors I really enjoyed in class. So, I forced myself to try to interact with them -- starting by asking questions via email, then had the courage to go to office hours or ask questions after class. My "third year," I withdrew for the fall to intern and finished my degree via spring/summer school. Throughout that time, I kept in contact with my professors, sending pictures/updates and things that were relevant from our class together. After graduating with my summer credits, I applied (giving me another year in-between but not material that would make it on to my actual resume for the law school application).

    Hey I’m planning to apply to the USA for law after my accountancy and finance degree in the u.k. But I’m just a little confused is law a postgraduate degree ?? And is the application process the same for the uk as it is for the us with the exception of being an international student ?

    • @LifeAfterHarvard
      @LifeAfterHarvard  4 года назад +1

      Hey! Law is a traditionally a post-graduate degree in the US (although some schools have different rules), and Harvard requires you to have a B.A. before you matriculate. I’m not familiar with the UK application process, but the US application is the same for all students - you’ll just need your grades, GRE/LSAT score, personal statement, optional essay, and interview.

      I am excited for you to appply! Keep me updated!! The legal industry definitely need more representation (only 2% of lawyers are Latinx or LGBTQ) and socioeconomic diversity. Just remember that--in addition to demonstrating what unique perspective you can bring to the incoming class--your application should focus on your goals and how law school is the best next step for you to achieve them.

I sent you an email just now! :) Also, I had another question. I'm an undergrad in South Korea, so there aren't a lot of information on US law school admission :( Between English debate and the school English newspaper, what would you say would be the more appealing club activity for law school admission? Thank you in advance!! :)

    • @LifeAfterHarvard
      @LifeAfterHarvard  3 года назад +1

      Choose the one you’re most interested in! I personally might go for the newspaper so you can meet different people, build a platform, and get published. That being said, I could have also stood to build up my confidence and comfort level speaking in public so debate would be great-especially if you won a competition or something. I don’t think you could go wrong with either of them-just make sure you are actively participating and taking on leadership roles where possible to build up your skill sets.

    Wow, Gratz! I had better UG grades, better LSAT, my masters (4.0 but they don’t count graduate coursework/gpa, it can only work against you if it’s a low grade, never for you), I’m a combat vet, had all the extras (volunteering, affecting social change and policy on a macro-level[very important])... and I still didn’t get in. Oh! And my parents are both immigrants too. Their formula must be so whacky. I’m reapplying but I’m also hearing that among the top 50-100 candidates, it basically comes down to drawing straws bc they’re all REALLY good apps&int’s. Hope I draw the big straw this time, lol...gratz&GL!!

      No offense but your “congratulations” lowkey sounds like a back-handed compliment towards him, you’re pretty much saying his acceptance came to “drawing straws.” I’m sure you got into other top schools with your stats, and once you get to the HYS there are probably specific things they look for in the personal statements

    • @pugilemoltobene3708
      @pugilemoltobene3708 4 года назад +1

      Tretch Hi, Tretch! Not backhanded at all, Gratz to him - once all basic criteria are met, they check the boxes for the top candidates and choose based on maintaining diversity, because I’ve got some great bleeding heart personal statements/essays. But honestly, the way I see it is - who better to have graduate from a T3 school (not even, necessarily, Harvard) than a guy that has killed scores of people over the course of 3 combat deployments (8yrs active duty) to countries we’ve no business being in! In fact, I’d like to specialize in diplomatic law so that we’d be handcuffed in times of war so we get fucking bombed to death! How’s that for a liberal viewpoint? This time around, I’ll have completed my second masters and PhD of Forensic Psychology, as well. I was also a professional T&F athlete (endorsed) for 4yrs. There is no candidate equivalent to me, none that have served this country in a higher capacity or have the credentials I possess among applicants. I’ve made sure of that. So what they do is attempt to ‘level the playing field’ - only look at UG GPAs, things of that nature. Anyway, chill the fuck out, dude. Some of us are world-beaters while most are sheep. The sheep need to gtfo the way. I’ve worked very hard for all that I’ve accomplished. Hopefully, you picked up on the sarcasm of the international law/liberal comment. Cheers!
