brother, DUDE! Everything you are both saying, regarding an initial awakening experience that 'happened' earlier in life, when you were a not really some archetypical 'spiritual' seeker, anxious, purely rational, scientific minded etc, literally EXACTLY what 'happened' to me. I was previously a very anxious teenager, a 'radical' atheist and had no intention of seeking any of this sort of 'stuff'. Afterwards, I too sought EXACTLY as you both did to find 'confirmation' from others of this 'experience' not so much from personal gurus IRL but within Buddhist literature, things I could find on the internet etc and it never sought of satisfied me because of the reasons you describe. The path of cultivation that is spoken about is NOT what I had practiced before it 'happened' and I couldn't really rectify how that could be so, and yet intuitively, I KNEW it, that I wasn't wrong or that what had happened wasn't some mistake or false perception, that there was nothing to be attained, reached, sought after etc. And yet, I was very uneasy. To be honest I'm freaked out by this, it still makes me uneasy, I wrestle with it all time and sometimes it doesn't feel 'healthy'. I can't really explain it. I'm only 12 minutes into the video, perhaps you give some advice on this later on
Is there anyway I could get in touch with either of you two dudes and just talk to someone? I have met very few people if any that seem to have shared this 'experience' if you can call it that, I'm very lonely at times and sort of really struggle with it. I know that is just more seeking for confirmation, but like, you are describing the EXACT thing!
I found this video completely by chance when someone mentioned Jim Newman in a comment and described him as lacking compassion etc in his description of it, that made me curious because it seemed he had upset some people that want to cling to it being pure consciousness, love, light etc, which is at odds with my direct intuitive knowing of what it is, something beyond that duality, grasping only to the 'light' or one half and denying the other.

Since Jim, as far as I know, doesn't offer us an email address, just a phone number (I'm not going to call him for something as trivial as what follows) I'm going to offer him a suggestion here. I enjoy watching the various and sundry "meetings," but only the monologues at the beginning. Once people start asking questions and commenting it's often as not very difficult to hear what they are saying. If there was a microphone available for them the "message" would reach a much wider audience and hopefully teach a lot of people how to stop wasting their time and/or following teachers of bogus teachings.

Great interview! This host was really able to drill down, as much as is possible with this subject, to the root of Jim's uncompromising sharing of nonduality. This allowed a much deeper discussion. It was obvious that you are very familiar with Jim's message and that you did your homework which enabled you to ask more insightful questions than most. Though it's understandable why they do so, I have grown weary of interviews in which a good portion is spent having the guest go through their 'awakening story'. You simply touched on it briefly for context, then moved on.

"I've" had several Awakening moments and a fair bit of stabilisation of nonduality over the last two years. My 2 cents on Jim: he is useful to me now, but had I tripped over him before the Awakening moments, I would have bounced from nonduality completely. And if what we ultimately care about is liberation from suffering, then how frequently he causes these shifts matters.

The refutation of a relativistic model for recognizing disparities in stress levels and how that is likely to contribute to (non)self-related insight comes across as extremely privileged to me.
And yet I can’t deny that what he says is ultimately true. I think it’s best seen as a framework that fills in a niche, and it seems to work for some people.
I’m reminded of the Dzogchen system, where while there is a deep understanding of the unity of emptiness/form, there is still an emphasis on dualistic preliminary practices, because they don’t want to give people a pointing out instruction that doesn’t transmit clearly enough to have the importance of the insight received. I think Douglas Harding said somewhere “the voice of the devil says ‘so what?’”
But if it works, it works 🤷‍♂️. Paradox.

Maybe I am not ready to absorb this information and this is resistance but I have questions.
My understanding is that we are all here for a purpose, we are each an individuation of the whole so that the whole can experience all that this planet has to offer. The whole is all that is, we are all connected. We make soul contracts before we come into these meat suits, things that will happen to us in order for us to learn things like compassion etc. So my feeling would be that the inability to walk was a soul contract in order that you can grow as a person, and indeed you did.
If there is no self, or individuation of the whole, who is looking through your eyes at your face in the morning?
Who is talking in your head?
Where are your ideas about the Universe and how it shows up for you coming from?
I know we live in a holographic Universe created by our own thoughts and beliefs and we can change our world if we change our thoughts. If there is no self where are those thoughts coming from???
Personally I think I'll prefer to believe the messages of the ascended masters and the thousands of channelled beings on the Planet right now.
Again, I have an open mind and perhaps I am just not ready to believe that life is as dull and pointless as this man paints it.
Much love to you all. Have a blessed day 🙏🙏🙏

Oh yes, the added befuddlement of stumbling across spirituality. My"self" and many others have found spirituality to be the ultimate recipe for selfing. The me bites into spirituality more so than it bites into any other method of seeking. You will find this out. Unfortunately It will not be a result of these words, because what's listening to these words does not want to hear what I'm saying. You will continue believing into the spiritual stories until you don't. You will have a flash of insight like everyone else that every single spiritual story on the planet is nothing but a vortex for the me to get stuck in. I dare say........ Good luck.

Jim's claim "everything is already that which is longed for" seems to make two distinct moves simultaneously:
    1) Metaphysical claim: "everything is already..." - a statement about the fundamental nature of reality
    2) Phenomenological claim: "...that which is longed for" - a claim about the structure of human experience/desire
The potential problem here is that Newman appears to be bridging these two domains without proper justification. Even if we grant his metaphysical claim about the nature of reality, it's not clear how this necessarily connects to or resolves the phenomenological experience of longing or seeking.
There's an implicit argument structure that might look like:
    1) What you're seeking is already what is
2_ Therefore, the seeking itself is based on a misunderstanding
    3) Therefore, the longing should dissolve when this is seen
But this seems to skip over important questions:
    1) Can phenomenological experiences like longing be "resolved" purely through metaphysical understanding?
    2) Is there a difference between intellectual understanding of "what is" and the lived experience of seeking/longing?
    3) Does the fact that everything is "already" something tell us anything about how we should relate to our experience of wanting things to be different?

There’s another “radical nonduality speaker” named Dawn Garland whose talks are really lovely, and she’s actually mentioned occasionally that, in the few empirical studies that have been done on this kind of awakening, there actually seems to be a correlation between extreme suffering beforehand and the awakening taking place. It’s not that the suffering *causes* the awakening, or is the “path to it”; it’s just how it often seems to work out. I have some ideas on why this might be the case, but it has nothing to do with anyone “intentionally making their way to enlightenment” or anything of the sort, lol

    • @simpelman
      @simpelman 10 месяцев назад +2

I think intense suffering motivates people to find a way out, or solution. So, as a nice quote in above RUclips discussion is said: 'So you agree that suffering IS SEEKING?' and Jim Newman said -Yes-, if I remember well. I learned a lot from this conversation. The self cannot steer itself into enlightenment, because it doesn't even exist. But people just happen to be in a place.
      -
      -
I guess Dr. James is far too intelectual and analistic to reall grab it. Albeit, he really asks the right questions.
The next step is to really DO it, and not think it. It is like explaining how to ride a bicycle or to skate or swim, just by explaining it with words.
Well, I did experience mysef this unveiling of the illusion of being a person who controls his life with his will, feeling seperate from the world, suffering about not gettting there, blaming myself (lol) for faults, trying harder etc.
In the end, it feels one is walking in the world as it is a movie, POV style, without being the steering captain
yes, I was always afraid, if I I I I was not in control, I would do crazy stuff and say crazy stuff, but things were said and done effortlessly, without braking the law.
Remember this horror film where the hand has a will of its own, strangling people or oneself.
I had a fear of letting go, because of this concept, lol.
But one's true nature, well it is not yours anyway is benine in itself. So, the true nature is benine.
I got there by completating about cause and effect, free will, and how things happen, just because.
So nobody is guity of sins. All this is a kind of misconceptions.
It seems we are living in a very big game of intelligence beyond ourselves, thinking about it. Are we living in an animation? Kind of thing.
This seems so far out for the common man.
Basically, conscious is not yours, and things happen in this big wave-field of energies and intellegence, moving us randomly like atoms, still it cannot be otherwise.
That kind of feeling I got when I was 'enlightened'.
Strangely enough, I am back to 'normal'now, is that even possible?
Seeing the other side of things.
It is quite boring really, because you profoundly realise, nothing really matters, and there is nothing to do.
The only good thing was, every second was a second of wonder and beauty. But kind of sad too, because 99.9 % of people are not like you, so you kind of feel lonely.
So Jesus came back to earth, kind of thing.
Jesus was an enlightened man, considering his words and deeds in hindsight.

The ego = Once you know Father Christmas isn’t real, you can never get back to believing he’s real again ??? - I’m finding that there’s something else going on, nothing to do with reading a book ??? - It’s strange, it’s like it’s not in the words but maybe it wouldn’t be happening without the words ??? - It’s definitely not in the ideas and yet maybe it wouldn’t be happening without the ideas, maybe it would be, people go on silent retreats !!! And that’s the system itself - The things/objects are over (Cloak) emphasised and the awareness is under-played - (Thus awareness is not being conscious, it’s what we’re conscious of - To tell you your trapped by inferring that there is a you which could be free to think there’s a better way -
But there’s an ideation of an image called selfing - The mental state points to the after as being the before - (Language emphasis there is an us and uses the subjective experience to make an object of ideation IE: Your the all that’s been thinking about)
But there isn’t a self doing the selfing that implies there’s a self doing it - There’s a mechanical system doing: Thus is reinforcing the nouning that your not - Not. ‘Knot’
Mamma has died in the night - Looking from the bondage of self (As self) - Contracted energy or pseudo eye strap from chest to head over cloaked by a superimposed phantom which orchestrates the Trinity which actuates the body.
It may have a real importance to being wrong because it will be right about how wrong it believes you are, so your wondering why your messing things up because then it can be right about how wrong you are.
It says I can’t afford to lose anymore time that I was sinking (Bewildering supported by those who propagate it)
Therefore, that which is traveling lighter does not get that the self doesn’t exist.
You identify someone that’s like you because it’s not you they like.
The Para Sight casts us as the affect - Looking through eyes at shadows of who we used to be.gets dumbfounded by believing what it’s believing to be true.
Because no one can see Stanley as not being you-r-debt -
A magic trick could have one quality which is (You see the after but you don’t see the before, so if you see the after you think that the rabbit came out of the hat, and if you saw the before, you saw the rabbit was hiding behind the hat - So the after the rabbit came out of the hat (Negate both) -
For the trick to work it has to have us starting at the after not seeing from the before. Awareness covered or obfuscated by a seeing.
So the mental state points to the after as being the before - But I would say we are of spirit which would be the before (According to scriptures, which is to remember), not that one can proclaim), and we take ourselves to be something that’s the after which is the mental image. Thus the character is waiting for conscious presence to awaken in its presence (But the character is the imagined dreaming and is the blocking agent of this, thus it is awakeness which wakes up in the absence of the character and not the awakeness which wakes up ‘To’. the absence of a character) - And that mental image is supported by memory, because when you remember something about the past your pictured as a body -
If you would paint the anxiety, the painting anxiety would be pictured as a body - Therefore your anxious about as you as a body is going to be doing later - And you have or there is a lot of negative ideas that are causing the anxiety because you’ve relied on something that’s projecting you to be doomed next year - So there’s a faith in it, and that faith in it - The occupation with the future condition (All just manufactured), now is producing an effect now. IE: You’re feeling uncomfortable now yet there’s no reason in a sense why, other than faith in the thoughts about next year - If you see this it doesn’t hold water, there is selfing that says there’s been a self - So we now try to get out of what we’re not in, or even discuss what’s not happening (Maya talking about it’s self) - So self gets caught in a cycle of self trying to get out of self, and why it can’t is because it’s ‘Knot’ Inn. (If seeing not in)
    - Our true eye is (Para Brahman or Atman) - According to scriptures - Spacious Awareness
When the big camera looks through the little camera it forgets it is the big camera and takes itself to be that which it’s looking through the little cameras cheap plastic shady lens which only has one role of film. It reinforces its more than this little camera as it holds great regard - The body (As the little lens), cannot get that I am not that - Because it doesn’t see that I am. ‘Knot’ that. The only way it can think is that I am this camera - ‘I was always Late’Ant’Ly A’Veil’Abel - Cane as the person can change the before.
The knowledge ‘I am’ or beingness is an illusion.
The beingness is a superimposition - A cloak of illusion Over the absolute. Nisargadatta Maharaj

There is nothing new here. It is half the story. Nisargadatta talked of I Am and going beyond to the unborn. Yes you talk of the unborn. Yet a construct is produced that the illusory person experiences. Teachers hiding behind words who are appearing as people in this construct of duality.

No, Jim is not talking about a philosophical position at all. He strives to illuminate the mystery of what is. Not a theory. Nec is quite different. It's a philosophical position about the nature of reality.

There cannot be Nonduality without Duality, they're the opposite ends of one stick, or two sides of the same coin.
Characters like Jim Newman bother me because if he was truly nondual he couldn't function at all, he would sitting there drooling like he had a full lobotomy. Jim has memory and memory is thought, thoughts are fully dualistic in nature because it's what the mind knows as 'Now' and the 'Past' (dual)..
Certainly being fully Non-dual, he wouldn't remember a split second ago so he couldn't speak or understand what was being said.

What appears as dualistic is merely that, an appearance, without any substantiality to it. There's only This, without a second.
