Mantis is a great chatacter but imo not the easiest to just pick up for the first time. Cloak and dagger have auto tracking projectiles and Luna's guard makes it so youre always healing additionally as well, even rocket you just need to shoot orbs in the general direction of your teammate
Yeah, I wouldn't recommend Mantis. Personally, I'd definitely go Luna for a new player. The fact that the basic damage and heal are the same key is kind of huge for a player trying to get used to a frenetic game like this. And then that also applies to Ice Arts. Plus, as long as there are both teammates and enemies around when you use the ult, it's high chance it'll give a return as long as you don't die (which is the case for anyone's). The fact that she's fast is also great for helping players dodge and get out of fire quickly. How useful she is out of the box starts pretty high, and it just gets higher as you get used to the game. Mantis, on the other hand, depends on you actually landing hits and then appropriately spending your orbs. And it would be real easy for a player to mess that up and suddenly be out of healing potential at a poor moment.
Mantis can't be anymore straightforward to play. Heal with LT buff DMG for teammates with LB and her damage with B. Put ppl to sleep with RB. Use ult for big aoe heals. That's literally her whole kit.
Bonus tips from a Sup player 1) At this point in time, Luna and Mantis (Cloak&Dagger to an extent) have ridiculously powerful defensive ults. They can heal people through entire ults like; Punisher, Psylock, Star Lord, Spider-Man, just to name a few. HOWEVER, they can not defend against nukes like Iron Man and Scarlet Witch, Even Hawkeye can kill her mid ult. 2) Option 2 is to pay attention to when they ult, and see if you can bait them into burning it when they dont need to. Example: Thor has a weak ultimate when compared to Star Lord. His ult fairly slow and VERY stunnable, but if he positions right, he can secure kills. Use this ult right on top of a Luna or Mantis with their team (hopefully without their stuns), and they will likely pop their ult to keep their team alive. When that ends, they will be open to a more dangerous Ult like Star Lords. 3) If you dont have a Luna or Mantis, Magneto's ult pulls in ALL projectiles, this includes Star Lord, Punisher, and Iron Man ultimates. 4) to counter this as a support, uh land your stuns lol and always be placed to either run away and get cover quickly. If you can stun a Thor instead of burning ultimate then that's a win. Cloak can also briefly make him and his team invisible and invulnerable to nukes with his secondary fire. However his team needs to not shoot while this is happening or they will exit the ability and DIE. 5) Rocket, Venom, Spidey can run on walls, make sure to set it to run in the direction of the cursor and not always up. 6) A lot of characters have animation cancels, like Doc strange melee inbetween shooting. Magik has one as well with her primary and her "melee" . And so does Adam Warlock, holding his primary while repeatedly using his secondary can cause a constant stream of attacks. However note, Adam's primary is hitscan while his secondary is not and has travel time. 7) always be wary of Doc strange Portal, the moment you hear the sound que, be ready for a suprise attack from an unexpected angle or room. Maybe even a scarlet/iron man nuke or Punisher ult from the sky.
Ok, I've been wondering why sometimes I can save my whole team from a Jeff ult and other times I'm left alone on the point and have to chase after him as he swims for the nearest ledge. I thought it was that the "phased" state radius was smaller than the invis, but it's just that attacking removes the effect. Many thanks for that clarification!
C&D ult is another tier above Luna & mantis’ ults. On Psylocke you can kill a Luna and mantis if they’re the only one in your ult. Compare that to C&D where you can survive literally anything that isn’t a one shot. (I’ve tested with 5x psylocke ults, 5x punisher ults, and 5x star lord ults and the C&D just shrugged them off)
When I play Cap, I put up the shield, play aggro and get right up next to the other team, they shoot at you which ricochets the projectiles back to them and since you're right in front of them they'll most likely hit.
You might already know, but did you know that you can move the starting portal for Dr. strange. When using portal and before moving, you can activate it again to move the starting point in the same way as the exit portal. So you can move the 1st portal to be on the floor of the objective and the 2nd portal over the edge. But if you know, then ignore me.

i have used strange's AOE plenty of times to nab kills on evasive enemies at low health I just can't seem to hit. I also love getting a few hits on a flier like Iron Man and then rushing him with my own flight and using the AOE to finish him off - not many expect it! For his portal ability, you can click the primary attack button while focused on the portal to move it, instead of having one portal locked to your location. I've used it at the start of a couple rounds of Payload maps on Defense - even if the enemy team doesn't have a Strange, there is about a 50/50 chance a portal that leads from the enemy spawn to a cliff will net you at least one kill on somebody who is playing on autopilot. Or you can trick your teammates to wait for your portal and lead them off a cliff, 2016-Overwatch Symmetra style. But nobody would ever do that, right? 😂😂
Used to love your videos when I was playing D2, and love to see your takes on other games as well! Out of curiosity, have you tried Supervive? Very different style of game, but I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Honestly, I really like the suggestions, though with my inability to aim properly in these super high-paced games, it really becomes a chore to play characters that rely on anything ranged. 'Tis also why I refuse to play duelists, cause the melee ones are ridiculously hard to play, and with supports I at least have my heal on auto-aim.
Mantis is pretty op she can out damage a lot of dps characters. I’ve been playing her as a dps first healer 2nd, and she’s been top 2 in kills in most matches.
Why would you ever suggest Strange as a new player's first tank pick??? When someone is just getting used to the frenetic combat, having to compensate for travel time is another thing to navigate they just don't need. And then strange adds in another axis entirely? If you don't know what you're doing, levitation is just a huge "shoot me I'm right here" target. Then add in having to keep track of his curse, so you don't end up with anti-heal. And getting great value out of strange means you want to understand how and when to use pentagram, which means understanding the maps and encounters. I mean, poor pentagram use can just as easily destroy your own team. I would NEVER recommend Strange for a new player. Go Venom. He's easily the right choice. Being a more effective bullet sponge is a very good choice for helping a new player learn the game. While he'd obviously get better with skill, his abilities don't have a high skill threshold just to start being useful (like portal). His swing and wall crawl are much easier ways for a new player to move around the map quickly.
