    Try using a clear wax over top of the darker wax when using the 2 step. The clear wax will act like an eraser and you can pull it back off the unwanted areas.

    Thanks so much for your wonderfully instructive videos 💞. I spent my day learning and creating some decoupage crackle on coasters. Turned out lovely for the first attempt .
    Here’s a question ….
    I wonder if I can use 2 step or 1 step crackle medium on a previous work without the crackle ? I’ve just applied mod podge over the decoupage .

    Hi, one of the best vidoes I have found so far - well done.
    Been trying to accomplish decoupage on a wooden tray and bought Jo Sonja's "Crackle Medium" and just cannot seem to achieve any crackle effect; followed their instructions ie initial coat of 50/50 PVC glue and base paint then did without the PVC glue - still no crackle and wondered if by using conventional/household water based paints they were too elastic. Then tried Chalk Paint, still no crackle; crackle medium seemed just to achieve promounced brush strokes, tried vertical and horizontal then cross hatching.........no crackle. Any words of wisdom would be welcomed.

    After using 2 step crackle medium of Little Birdie, I used golden pigment to evident the cracks. But while sealing with Glossy varnish by Little Birdie, the whole thing became milky and fragmented into hard glassy pieces. What can be the reason.

    I thought the top coat of a 2 part crackle is what you used to make the crackles show, isn't that correct, without having to use *another medium of some sort that may or may not work🤔

    I am a complete beginner and haven't done any crackling yet (planning too, though). So thank you for this video. I found a one step product (in Australia) that says it does the same thing i.e you apply over a painted surface to get a fine surface crackle effect. The information about the product says that if you want more obvious crackle effect, then apply the medium more thickly. I'll try it and maybe let you know if it works..?

      One quick question. With the two paint crackle method, can gesso primer coat be the first colour? So if I apply a black gesso and then the one step crackle medium followed by another colour?

    • @IvetaZiedina
      @IvetaZiedina  4 года назад

      I think you should be alright with gesso being the first colour, as long as the top paint is a bit less elastic you should be ok :)

      @@IvetaZiedina such a late reply from me. Sorry. Worked well with black gesso underneath, then one step crackle, then a deep orange colour. This was for an old wooden mirror frame and the end result matched a chinese black and orange lacquered cabinet over which it hangs.

    Great video! straight to the point! One question, i have Pentart fine crackle , and like you, did not have success with wax. I want to order micah powder? there are so many..not sure what economical powder i need? the one for soap? nails? i’m in canada
    thanks so much

    • @IvetaZiedina
      @IvetaZiedina  4 года назад

      Thank you! I saw that link you posted with mica powders, I haven't tried those myself, but I literally used them as an example for someone else that asked about powders a while ago. To me they seem like the closest match to the metallic pigments I use, The only way to find out is to try them (maybe I should put some on my wishlist and give them a go some time). If you do end up trying them out let us know how you get on!

  • @Wedow12

    Hi, i love this video. You explain it very well. I just purchased the Pentart Fineline 2 step from ebay, so hope it comes in a couple weeks. In the meantime, I want to buy the correct powder to evidence the crackle. You mentioned soft pastels, that I can scrape it to get the powder off to load my brush. I feel it would be the cheapest and love that I can buy a set with multiple colours. I wasn’t sure if you said this will work with the Fineline or the other brand? I’m hoping Fineline. Could you please clear this up for me? Thanks!

    • @IvetaZiedina
      @IvetaZiedina  4 года назад +1

      Yeah, soft pastels are the ones that I have trouble with when using with fineline crackle, I find metallic pigments work better.have a look for some metallic mica powders or something like that. I have been successfuly using copper pigment mixed together with black soft pastel powder, and that’s been working okay, it doesn’t seem to dissolve as much when I apply varnish over the top. So it might be an idea for you to still be able to get lots of colours if you get one neutral mettalic and soft pastels you could mix them together. Hope this helps !
