    could be cool to introduce gravity as a consideration. a gene will have another parameter from 0 to 1. when it is low, the cell is stronger and can support more weight but produces less energy. when its high, the cell will produce more energy but be weaker and support less weight

    This is a kind of cellular automaton, but with certain rules that are very dynamic (the genome idea). Fascinating! It would be possible to extend this to triangular or hexagonal world grids.

    love this one. Also you may want to add an offshoot variant that does not mutate, in addition to falling as soon as its formed. This would allow for locomotion!

    instead of 4 numbers for absolute left right top and bottom of a cell, why not just three numbers, relative left, right and forwards; where backwards or missing number is the cell it was spawned from. with less numbers mutation / evolution will be faster no?

    That's pretty cool! How does the evolution work exactly? Do all seeds get a random value changed or is an entire genome changed?

      All seeds have a genome, like the tree that spawned them.
      With a probability of 1/4, only one number in the genome changes during a mutation
