I'm not quite sure how I feel about this. It's impressive that these men make brake pads pretty much by hand but at such a great cost. To the environment and, most importantly, to their health.
I don't think they give a hoot about the environment.. I'm sure their health will show the effects of breathing asbestos in later years.
People do what they need to do to feed their family
I agree they to feed their family but for how long can they do this type of work before they get sick and not be able to work. They don't use any kind of protection

If a RUclips tester could get hold of a set of these pads and compare their performance to well know brands like Mintex or Brembo that would make an interesting video.

When I was a kid my dad hired a Cuban guy. He told us that his job in Cuba was using Asbestos to rebuild brake shoes and brake pads. Thankfully he didn't do it for long before coming to the states. Of course back then they didn't know how dangerous Asbestos is. Just like these guys, they had few choices to earn a living.
I still remember having to pay a core charge when buying brake pads. They make them so cheap now that you throw away the old ones.

That's exactly what it is, short life for those kids.
Asbestos is not as bad as will to sell the proprietary replacement. Just like dupont's replacement for freon to «prevent ozone holes from growing». Eco-friendly bullshit.
Asbestos or mineral fibre... just as bad.
Agree
The boxes say asbestos free so unless the company who supplies the brake pads is acting illegally I highly doubt asbestos is being used in the production of these brake pads.

Well if that’s what heat does to brake pads, god help anyone who wants to stop in a hurry!

Would love to know how to give these guys some face masks 😷 for when sanding and or painting those brake pads, especially the young guy.

Make sure you give them masks in original packaging, so it would be easier to re-sell. In case you doubt they'd sell them, ask yourself this - if you wire them some cash, would they use it to buy masks ? If you are willing to ponder a bit more , here in the west if safety equipment was not mandatory and provided by the employer - how many workers would spend heir own cash to buy some? And of what quality ?
I know others are already saying this, but the lack of Personal Protective Equipment is terrifying.

These pads would immediately fail a DOT inspection, but they're good enough for Pakistan and there's a lot of craft going into these. They brand-name and wrap these up like they were sending them to a Ferrari dealership. That's pride...at the expense of a sure death from respiratory ailments. Medical benefits are not a thing there for these hardworking lads.
I'm curious if they have different molds to make larger brake pads or if they've decided to focus on this model for a common application. Also curious if there's any markings to keep track of how many times a plate gets recycled before discarding it.
I imagine they have another set of moulds for different size pads. Rest is likely the same. But then again another shop down the street might do some other types.
только толщина пластины может указывать на количество применений.
This is the "Suzuki Alto Brake Pads" factory. The Toyota Landcruiser one is next backyard.
There can be hundreds of similar shops in same area. they get the material ready sorted. So they get just thousands of same model pad in this shop. Next door gets the other model etc.. you get the idea?

Is amazing the impact that culture has. Is difficult for them to implement that because usually the business owners do not want to spend in anything of the short as they see it as unnecessary spending, worse is the same workers have the culture of being though, they feel silly if they wear PPE and many coworkers make fun of PPE, it is also downright ignorance.
