today we just wanted an excuse to talk about some games we don't highlight enough 👍
Sup
Hey Gameranx!
ik this isn't from ps5 put there's a game called tails of iron and it's free on ps plus and it's finally getting the recognition it deserves
Why is this specifically a PS5 list? Every game on here other than Astros Playroom is available on PC with most also being available on Xbox? Is it just the algorithm prioritizing "PS5" in the video's title?
You can only blame yourselves for not talking about them! You have the media platform.
Guardians of the Galaxy was one of my favorite gaming experiences as of late, it was so fun and contained so much more heart than I thought
I felt the same way. I liked it so much I platinum it but then again the requirements wasn't too hard.
WORD. was soo good.
It’s free for ps+ subscription.
I just started yesterday. Loving it so far. One of the best Marvel game experience to date.
It definitely was one of the best games that year
Astro's playroom was my first game on ps5 & it was better than most paid games. Really gave a sense of what "next gen" means & what to expect from PS5. I played it for 2 weeks doing speedruns & platinuming the game. I really couldn't believe they gave it for free
👌👍🏼
cool name and profile pic
Exactly!! It needs its own dedicated series
Yeah, i started it while waiting for a game to download a day 1 patch when i first got my PS5. I got into it, and ended up forgetting about the other game, lol.
Wait, it took you 2 weeks to platinum it? I got it in 2 days, could've got it in 1 day. That's the only bad thing about the game, it's too short.
Kena bridge of spirits is one of those awesome game's that I hope the Devs who made it, keep making more Game's because they proved how good they are with Kena & the sky is the limit from here. I hope they keep making a ton of games
Agreed. I really hope to see more games like that. Especially with the art style. It works so well.
Yeah it's one of those games that could definitely use a sequel. The game was really good, but felt like it was only setting the foundation for something better, because the combat and gameplay wasn't very fleshed out. I really do hope they make a sequel
Returnal was one that I absolutely loved, that I feel doesn't get enough recognition. Great gameplay, beautiful visuals, amazing and unique sound design, and intriguing narrative. It just drips atmosphere and tone.
Agree completely. I'm in love with this game. Sad it didn't make the list, it was the first game I thought of when I read the title of the video.
Soooo underrated, i agree with you guys. A difficult game that had incredibly fun gameplay so dying was never a slog and with the randomly generating levels, it was always new. Plus, the haptic controls have not been utilized as well in any other PS5 game as in Returnal.
The 1st game I played for hours and hours on the PS5 🤩
Nah it wasn't for me. Played it for a few hours on PC, then I was done with it. I can appreciate the game for what it is, and that loads of people love those games. Just not for me.
I think it was because early game of the ps5 and really hard till the new update and then it was forgotten but love the hell out of that game
Astros playroom is the best haptic feedback experience. I think anybody who wants an introduction of the PS5 should play. Even if you only do a level.
Pro tip, head to the jungle level. The level music is straight up a banger.
Yess!!! I tell everyone I meet who has a PS5 to play it 😂 not only an amazing platformer game, but also a brilliant showcase of the Dualshock AND some great nostalgic PS collectables
@@Frost4Real *DualSense
one of my favourite games ever, and you're absolutely right about the jungle music. the nostalgia that game creates from the collectibles and puzzle pieces is incredible too.
Well said I love this game and got a platinum on it pure joy
Sadly just like the PS4 Astros is gonna be the only game ever made to utilize the dual sense controller and it's sad because that really is the next-gen. Experience cause graphics 2 out of 10 games has great graphics and the others are just eh.
Astro's Playroom is a love letter from Playstation to their fans.
👆🏻
Facts
such an amazing way of putting it. to their TRUE fans. Me and my buddies all got ps5s early, and they didn't even both to play that. I was shocked, they're fake fans.
A good thing to mention is that most of these games are available on PS+ Extra, those being:
- Guardians of The Galaxy
- Scarlet Nexus
- Ghostwire Tokyo
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Deliver Us the Moon
- Immortals: Fenyx Rising
Now rollerdrome too.
Astro's Playroom is no joke, and some of the most minute-for-minute fun I've had in a long time. Tons of charm, and lets be real, that soundtrack has no business going that hard (and deserves to be talked about more).
the ssd song goes so hard 😂
Definitely going to checkout Ghostwire Tokyo and Scarlet Nexus as their both on PS Plus now. Currently obsessed with Sackboy which i feel is also an underrated gem.
Yess!!
I bought it back in January, such a fun game. That platinum was tough.
Sackboy really is a great game.
haha I own both of those on disc for ps5 and now they're free
They’re on PS plus now?? Like the 50 dollar version??
What an injustice to Kena: Bridge of Spirits. That game holds a special place in my heart. Also currently playing Immortals:Fenyx Rising for over 50 hours now and having a ton of fun.
Kena might hold a special place to you, but the game is god awful.
Kena reminded me of a simpler time when games were pure fun. Between the combat, art style, music and gameplay, the whole experience was so cohesive, just pure joy! I'm glad I picked it up as soon as it came to Steam
Guardians was another one, I just dismissed it as an Avenger's clone upon seeing the trailer, then I saw a streamer playing it and was immediately hooked by the banter and...what a game! It had a surprisingly deep story with some really heartfelt moments mixed in between the endless banter and bickering it was just a lot of non stop fun and I hope it becomes a bit of a sleeper classic over the coming years.
I'd say it seems like A Plague Tale: Requiem is also looking like it belongs to this list, another high quality brilliant game that seems to have been a bit forgotten by the public at large immediately after launch.
Been keeping an eye on Rollerdrome and Solar Ash, those are on my wishlist and I will definitely play them someday for sure
yea agree w/ plague tale.
I grabbed it in the Steam Autumn sale, absolutely gorgeous art style and a story crafted from the folk law of a native Javan tribe who acted as consultants for the devs, even the music was designed with their input and approval. When you consider it was the first game released by a new team the game's production values are absolutely amazing especially when you add in the fact it was sold as a budget title too. If AAA developers cared about their products like these guys, the makers of Stray and the Plague Tale devs we'd have a lot more good games than we currently get.
I played both Plague Tale’s this year and can say they are some of the best games I’ve ever played. Especially the 2nd one, they really did well with adding more mechanics to the game without it being overwhelming like other sequels I’ve played.
Even though I got the platinum for Astros Playroom, I still go back and play it. It’s just so much fun and there’s so much nostalgia packed in it
Plus that GPU song is fire
The Ghostwire Tokyo DLC is huge actually, they really went out of their way to address the criticisms, especially about enemy and mechanic variety, and expanded the game much more than I think people would expect
Jake has praised it to high heaven but I still think Sifu is an underrated gem. That was my personal game of the year for 2022.
Real talk, Gameranx was the one who put me on to Immortals: Fenyx Rising with "Before you buy" video and was absolutely floored by the video. I immediately bought the game right after. I was hooked 😂.
That’s an awesome list. I would also include Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart in it. I know it’s a triple A game and made by Insomniac, but I really think it didn’t receive the love it deserved. The level design is simply amazing, the characters are fantastic and the graphics, by far the best animation graphics I’ve ever seen
Bought it last week. About 95% done. Really great game. Gonna platinum it.
@@kingquan3826 the platinum is so fun to achieve. Go for it!
I think it was hyped af then almost everyone with ps5 bought it , I don't think it was underrated
oh god, totalyl agree w/ Ratchet and Clank, people has to try classic action-adventures
I agree, such a stunning and fun game, really shows off the PS5 potential. Needs more love.
I feel Returnal deserves more love. Great visuals and gameplay with an eerie narrative. Don't miss out on it!
It's an easy platinum aswell
Oh yea seeing it's "kinda" underappreciated(?). yea, i guess most were worried of it being a roguelike bullet-hell and a tps action shooter would come overwhelming in controller but to my experience it didnt. even devs change how the game saves for a friendly approach.
I think Returnal had a pretty big fanbase behind it imo, not underrated/under appreciated from what I've seen
When I got my 9 year old daughter got her first console, a PS5, let her play Astro to help her get familiar with the controls and how to play it. She absolutely loved the game!
People often accuse Ubi of not deviating from their open-world formula but they really tried something different with Immortals Fenix Rising and its truly amazing. I went in with very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised.
What??? It's literally a formulaic open world title and a Zelda BotW clone.
I Don't understand the hype around this game. I tried it and didn't like it, it's very meh. I tried the demo for ~20 minutes, I really wanted to like the game, but I was so disappointed that I dropped it and was a little depressed the whole day - was planning to play it for the whole Saturday :(
I liked it, but its literally a breath of the wild clone, but marginally worse
@@Grapefruit5000 The fact that it is inspired by Zelda is the reason it made so fun and rewarding to explore, its something Ubi had not explored before and they put their own spin on it. Nothing wrong being "formulaic" and it took nothing away from the game, it actually did the opposite.
My biggest problem with Ubi is I think their games are super copy and paste or they are half done. I feel like AC Valhalla could have been better. But I personally had a lot of bugs, or I’d have cutscenes where I would walk into a house and have dialogue with a character and it would be raining in the house with a roof. Idk I think their concepts are great but recently finished product sucks
The guardians game is soooooo good to. I picked it up day one so It’s very sad to see that it didn’t get the love it deserved right away
Returnal was one of my favorite games this generation for sure.
I want Astros Playroom 2. It was so fun, and may be the neatest use of the Dualsense to date
Currently playing Kena: Bridge of Spirts, in fact. Great game so far. Surprised that it's overlooked. Also, appreciate the Scarlet Nexus shoutout, which is an absolute gem that was one of my games of the year in 2021.
Feels like many people slept on A Plague Tale Requiem which is a shame since it's a solid second half to the story of the first game
I absolutely loved Astros Playroom. Getting 100% of collectibles was just as fun when I played Astro Bot Rescue Mission. Really hoping we get another installment in the series that's fully fleshed out.
For me it’s Thymesia. I love plague doctors aesthetically and the whole plague weapon concept is nice where you can take a weapon an enemy is using onto your sidebar and use it for yourself. Also you can upgrade plague weapons to do more damage and the whole feathers/claw mechanic is pretty nice too. Think it is only like $29 or something but it’s also a souks like so don’t expect perfection
This game is free with the gamepass in UK for anyone intrested
Really great list! I especially love that you showed some love to Guardians of the Galaxy and Scarlet Nexus. Two amazing games that deserve wayyyy more love and exposure
Returnal and Control immediately come to mind
Both games are an absolute blast, fun mechanics and unusually in depth storytelling. Definitely worth the time
Returnal is criminally underrated I think part of it is due to its perceived difficulty and I’m not the best or even good at games like returnal but i think if people stick it out like I did they will find a masterpiece of a game!
100% I raged quit so many times and was stuck on the first level for weeks! The game is so damn addictive! I just kept saying just one more run lol
Once you complete the 1st biome things just click and it becomes an intense unforgettable experience.A good tip for new players is to look at a basic guide.Just so you can start to understand how things work as there seems so much at first it can be quite daunting but trust me stick with it and your in for one hell of a game 10/10 should of got GOTY Imo.
(quick tip is you can buy or find an extra life (the astronaut toy)
I loved Returnal but god was it hard. I ended up just watching a play though of it on RUclips so I could see what happens
Immortals Fenyx Rising and Guardians of the Galaxy were a blast. Had so much fun playing them and ended up getting the platinum on both.
I really like this type of content, there are a lot of games which are overlooked, so it gives a lot new things to consider. Also great that you guys name the pro's and Con's, it gives a clear perspective on what to expect. Would also love a PC version or an indiegame version :)
Kena and Fenyx were amazing. I'd add Remnant From the Ashes to this list. No idea why that wasn't talked about more. It was amazing too. Remnant 2 is coming and it is one of my most looked forward to games.
What?Remnant 2?
My God,thanks for sharing this,Remnant:From the Ashes is a MASTERPIECE!
@@EuSouRCS Hell yeah! It's like completely under the radar. I tried to get friends into the first one. It's completely unknown and amazing. The second one could be awesome. Really looking forward to it.
@@ericsaari2901 After looking to trailers and gameplay on Remnant 2 official channel,we cannot be less than very excited about it!!!
@@EuSouRCS Right?? Like you said, the first one was so amazing that I didn't even need anything to get me to buy the sequel. It's my most looked-forward to game, admittedly along with Armored Core 6 because I never thought FromSoft would actually go back to it. Had all but given up hope on that. Great days ahead!
@@ericsaari2901 exactly,brother!
That's our benefit to look outside the box of mainstream releases,so we can enjoy popular games like RE 4 Remake and also those "hidden gems" year after year!
Mine is Sifu in my opinion it came out only a few weeks before Elden ring. And also dying light 2 and forbidden west but sifu is phenomenal recommended it
That game blows lol a cheap knock off of Jet Li rise to honor haha
Astro's Playroom is also just a huge love letter to the history of Playstation with the collectibles. my ONLY gripe is that it doesn't have VR support like the prior Astro game. Recently started playing Kena as it's a PS Plus catalogue title now (but has been in my wishlist since launch). Really enjoying it!
Thank you for this!!!! More vids like this highlighting hard work we may have missed! Glad to see it!
Awesome video! Played Astro's Playroom with my son and absolutely loved it! Still go back to it often and discover new easter eggs and details!
Sackboy: A Big Adventure is a really cool 3D platformer, that unfortunately got overlooked due to it being a spinoff of a much more successful Little Big Planet series. Plus, a lot of people were disappointed that, unlike other LBP games, this one doesn't have a level editor.
I got to play ps5 Scarlet Nexus recently because of ps+. It's really not perfect, a slow start, weird pacing both in story and late-game dungeons, and many other issues that you see in many jrpgs. Nonetheless, the gameplay shines later on. It's not just telekineses/psychokineses, you can copy and use many other powers at the same time from your party members, mixing fire and thunder attacks, duplication, teleport, stealth and so on. It's really fun once you get a full party, specially with 8 powers available all at once.
Immortals was that game I was obsessed with and couldn’t convince anyone else to give a shot haha
OMG YESSS GAMERANX!!! I cant believe ur actually highlighting some of my favourite games - Astro's Playroom is amazing and I tell everyone with a PS5 to play it, and Fenyx was legit my GOTY of 2020 alongside Tsushima! Cant believe its at #1 ❤
I've never been so early... 😮. Thanks for the continued amazing take on gaming!
Guardians of the Galaxy is legitmently one of the best story games to come out in recent memory. It’s truly GOATED!!
Half of these are on PS+ Extra! Imma definitely get on it. Thank you guys! 🙌🏾
Oh so great to see the list start off with Astro's playroom! A friend who has a PS 5 (I don't) started that up when I asked for a show-off of the Dualsense controller. I got used to the new controller features after like 5 minutes but the game was fun for much longer. Also, few games use the controller so well.
I absolutely loved Guardians of the Galaxy and Scarlet Nexus. Scarlet Nexus is also a game that requires 2 playthroughs to get the full story since it has 2 different main characters with intersecting stories
Oh a Scarlet nexus fan here 😆
Neat , u play both sides in parallel or finish one after other?
I played both parallel and switch at standby phase.
Awesome list man. I didn’t really get into these games, hence your video makes sense 🤣
Starting this video with astro playroom, i love it, it was fun to play and to know how powerful the console can be, i love the detail that you could use the mic to blow a fan and pretty much almost no other game use this feature
Great list! Made sure to add some of these to my wishlist and hope to play them soon!.
Guardians of the Galaxy is an amazing game! Everyone who loves single player story games should buy that game. Especially comic book fans.
Astro's Playroom tugged at my heartstrings so hard with all of the PlayStation nostalgia. An incredibly well made and fun game.
Been wanting to try Kena for a while now. Gameranx approval? Now I must
I recently started Ghostwire Tokyo and was so surprised to find that a lot of the mechanics/abilities I regularly use and rely on were a result of the DLC updates. Im really enjoying it a lot
Playing through gaurdians of the galaxy is a feeling and gaming memory that has stayed in my mind and will probably stay in my mind for a long time. one of the best games I've played since getting the ps5
👌
Immortals fenix rising getting some love is always good for the francise. I hope there is a better sequel for it. The first one is good but its has problems and it's really underrated.
The last dlc is horrible and the puzzles make the game not enjoyable
I liked it way more than BOTW even though it's a BOTW clone
I enjoyed it more than breath of the wild.
@@jdrahonovskybig agree
@@slimeboy5626 I found all the DLCs to be kind of underwhelming, after doing A New God I was pretty much just over doing puzzles.
Brilliant list. I found Immortals recently and love it. One of my favorite games of late, it’s pretty long as well because the open world is huge. I really wish they hadn’t taken guardians of the galaxy off because that was on my next to play list and they took it off gamepass and I didn’t want to be in the middle of it when they did. I hate they don’t tell you much more than like a week ahead of time. I want to try some of those other games on your list though!😊
Sackboy: A Big Adventure was phenomenal as well and highly underrated. So glad you also talked about Kena and Rollerdrome. Great games.
I absolutely loved Scarlet Nexus.
The plot was just OK, but the gameplay loop was solid and there was genuinely great chemistry between all the OSF members. Plus Kasane was just all around awesome and the intro theme "Dream in Drive" is baller.
My ps5 comes tomorrow & I’ve a backlog of games I bought for my ps4 but never finished. Stoked.
I think Toem is great. I would've never thought to buy it myself, but since it came with ps+ and my gf thought it looked cute we decided to play it, and we had a lot of fun playing it, walking around afterwards and humming the melodies and impersonating the different characters. Even though its singleplayer we helped eachother solve the puzzles. I would recommend
Astro's Playroom was the 1st PS5 game I Platinumed when I got mine.
It was so much fun and such a nostalgia trip. Going down Memory Lane of not only PlayStation but my childhood as well was a treat.
Rollerdrome was an absolute blast, a kind of arena shooter Tony Hawks hybrid and i bloody loved it :) Great list Jake :)
I recently downloaded Ghostwire Tokyo because the FPS with magic concept sounded interesting jumping on it this weekend
Started it yesterday its quite fun my only issue is the amount of cutscenes but theyre skippabble
@sher Khan nah I don't mind cutscenes don't bother me too much
Wow I’m early! Great to see y’all again!
I can vouch for Rollerdrome. I picked it up from the start and it’s a blast. I definitely agree that more levels and story would crank it up a notch. You can briefly look around the pre-arena sometimes to find some info about how the judges award you with ammo on the spot etc so with that being said I would absolutely be into a sequel or spinoffs with a similar style. Awesome game.
The thing I loved about Immortals Fenyx Rising was that the writing was actually kinda funny. There aren't many games that can make me chuckle, but this was one of them.
The problem that I had with ghost wire Tokyo was that it didn’t feel good to play. The controls felt stiff rigid, although the world graphics were alright, but the gameplay graphics were gorgeous. It wasn’t enough to make up for the clunky feeling of the character. I tried slower and faster sensitivities, deadzone changes, and motion some visual setting changes and it just didn’t feel good.
I'm actually playing Guardians of the Galaxy right now and am up to chapter 10, game is such a blast and the soundtrack is amazing, I was in love the second Turn up the Radio started playing.
Also, got my PS5 in February and Astros Playroom was my first platinum of this new gen, only took 4 hours and was all worth it because it was such a blast.
Downloaded Kena today, can’t wait to dive into it.
This is an excellent list. I've played Immortals and Kena, and they are both really enjoyable. I've got Guardians and Scarlet Nexus in my backlog, among others, and I want to be sure I play them this year.
I make guest play Astro’s Playroom because of how engaging it is especially with the controls and educational value. It’s not too much or competitive. Enjoyable even as a hardcore gamer
I loved Deliver Us the Moon and Immortals. Fantastic games.
Ghostwire, Kena, Deliver Us the Moon, and Immortals....all platinumed.
Thanks for putting Fenix Riding in here. Really fun game.
Replaying Guardians now before the Vol 3 and loving it as much as the first time a year ago. Very sad with all the lost potential of sequels
Feel like Returnal gets overlooked. Great game imo
Haven't heard of Solar Ash, but it looks awesome. Thanks
GOTG was actually one of my first ps5 games and I was hesistant but interested post Avengers but I was surprised by just how quality it was. Can't wait for a sequel.
I love Marvel's guardians of the galaxy 2021 game I really want a sequel in the future.
im just here to say i want GodHand remake
A friend of mine got to work on Kena. I got it so long ago and keep meaning to get to it! Glad to see it getting some love on here, Imma check that out this weekend finally, I decided.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Kena Bridge of Spirits were really really awesome. Excellent dialogue and then great music in both of them.
Persona 5. Yes, it got a lot of praise, but more people should try it out and play through.
Great list! Guardians and Scarlet Nexus are a blast. I would add Chorus to the list. It's a space fighter game with slick controls and great visuals! The fighter ship lets you blast and fly around hyper fast! Check out the trailer.
Kena Bridge was a really cool game where they put much love into it! Just seeing the pics in PS Store I was like wow that looks cool and I love the style. Colourful game and fun.
Also they always put in new masks matching with celebrations like Halloween, Christmas and stuff.
I’m glad to say that I’ve bought 5 ps5s since launch and never had to pay scalper prices
Why did you buy 5?
Same. I bought 4 in 2021 and I never paid scalper prices. One for myself, one for my little brother & 2 for friends (they gave me the money to get it for them).
@@bananasean5145 my first one was a digital edition I bought day one, but I prefer physical games so I then got lucky on Amazon. Then I kept getting random invites on Amazon and got one for my step dad and 2 for both my brothers and sold my used digital to someone for 350
@@bananasean5145 not a scalper
Watching these videos without a playstation is painful 😖
Gameranx please do a part 2 to this. I want to know what else I should get from my PS5.
I love Guardians of the Galaxy, thankfully I saw a video you guys posted saying how underrated it was, so I purchased it, and loved it.
Also loved Ghostwire Tokyo and was surprised how it was overshadowed.
Also thankfully I got a PS5 shortly after it released so I got to experience and enjoy astros playroom.
yea. i think Neon White was underappreciated on consoles since it's a fast-paced fps game and could come as overwhelming for a controller input, but no worries, i agree w/ Jake's take.
🤝
These aren't PS5 games. They're just games that can be played on PS5
🤓☝🏻
@@danielra23 yea but some can be played also on ps4😂
Astros playroom is fantastic, I played through with my 6 year old and we loved it. As you mentioned, it's also the BEST showcase for the duelsense and we probably won't see another game utilise the controller to this level.
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Immortals: Fenix Rising, myself. One if the few games over the past couple years I not only beat, but at 100%. Even got the DLCs and completed those as well. Highly underrated IMO.
I did so as well, including the DLCs. I didn't enjoy ALL of the DLCs, but still worth.
@Black_Sheep_0213 yeah I think the DLCs could have been better, but they were still okay. Nain game, though...
MASTERPIECE 🤌
Guardians of the Galaxy is so underatted if you're still doubting if it's a good game trust it's amazingm
👆🏻
Half of those are/were on Gamepass
Ghostrunner was a super fun, challenging experience that played well and had a killer soundtrack.
I actually gave Astro's Playroom a try because of a previous video of yours. I'm glad I did. It's pretty fun, and it utilizes all of the PS5 controller's features. It's also free, so...
Ghost wire was ok but after awhile it got very boring and really repetitive
Kena is an excellent game. Astro’s Playroom is also great. Guardians of the Galaxy was surprisingly good despite the combat getting monotonous. I liked Ghostwire: Tokyo. I’m into Japanese culture and that world just clicked with me. Graphically gorgeous. I liked Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Unlike a lot of gamers I prefer open world, third person games with side quests and collectibles and lore to explore.
Lol a lot of gamers like open world fleshed out third person games…
Plague Tale: Requiem I feel like is so underrated. It tells a great story and the gameplay is fun as well. Got the platinum for it yesterday!
I played Astros when I first got my PS5, its more or less a dualsense tech demo, but super fun. All of the Classic Sony collectibles made it even more fun to play.
For me, Deathloop is still super underrated. Such a unique world and story that no one seemed to play
