  • Benefits of Ashtanga yoga can be experienced by anyone who tries to keep up a consistent practice. And so for anyone who has ever practiced Ashtanga yoga, you may have experienced some of its many benefits. Some benefits may be more obvious than others.
For example, as it is a dynamic practice, you may have expected it to help build strength. Also, given all the weird and wonderful ways we bend and twist our bodies, you may have expected it to help increase flexibility.
What if I were to say to you that practicing Ashtanga yoga may increase your wellbeing? And what if I were to mention that by practicing Ashtanga yoga you may even learn some Sanskrit? Or that this practice will help you gain some discipline?

Haven't seen anyone getting enlightened by the modern version of ashtanga yoga somehow. Not even here in India.

Noticed that after practicing constantly, the mind gets more into meditative state. No other style makes it deep like this. Also deeply feeling inner structures that is involved in bandhas, so its not only outer muscles working, but also inner. Also there is freedom from choosing. This is liberating feeling in practice 😊

The pleasure is all mine! I can spend hours going over academic studies so it was really interesting to find that there had been so many studies examining the benefits of this practice specifically!

I suppose learning Sanskrit numerals can be especially fun for Slavic languages speakers, since the numerals in Slavic languages are so similar. ;) I'm Polish and it took me just a few repetitions to get it. ;D

Ah yes! Interesting point! I'm half Greek and once upon a time I was learning Serbian and loved the Cyrillic alphabet. So yes given that you already know 2 alphabets, I'm sure Sanskrit must have come a bit more naturally to you!

@@AlexiaKYoga I was rather referring to the pronunciation. ;) Numbers from 2 to 6 are pretty much "the same" (sort of) as in Slavic languages, 7, 8 and 10 are also very similar. You can easily see that these languages have common Indo-European roots.

@@marek9081 ah yes I see what you mean! Thanks for pointing that out :-) Same for Greek too. For us 2,3,5,7,8 and 10 are similar in pronunciation.

I’m enjoying and learning Ashtanga yoga at a local studio. I practiced Bikram for awhile and it was my choice as bikram poses not adding pressure on the wrist. Now I found Ashtanga and wanted to continue practice. Will you kindly be able to helping me how to practice not adding pressure on my wrist. Thank you so much for your efforts educating
