I’m proud to say that I was a juror on the Vaultz case and that it only took us about 3 hours to deliberate to find him guilty. I also attended the sentencing. He received two consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole for both of the victims.

He took the stand for three days straight, showed no sign of remorse and was a terrible liar. His testimony about Janna Rowe in his 1988 trial did not match up with this trial. Also, he had her pendant with her name engraved on it in his mother’s jewelry box! The evidence was overwhelming and DNA does not lie.

    Left on a trash pile.😥
In the 80s, when I was 16, I was hitchhiking & James Mitchel (Mike) DeBardeleben picked me up in Norfolk, Virginia. I told him I was going to see my boyfriend. He had automatic door locks (rare in the 80s except for cop cars) & a cb radio in his car. He said he was an undercover cop which even as a kid, I knew that was bull 💩 because cops don't tell you they're undercover, so I was immediately ill at ease. He kept touching my legs asking if my boyfriend does that & asked me why I wasn't in school. I felt frightened AF & wanted to get the hell out of the car, but the lock covers were stripped off of the locks & I would've needed needle nose pliers to unlock the door. Fortunately there was a 2 vehicle accident blocking our entrance to a bridge & cops were at the scene. He popped the locks & told me, "Today's your lucky day." The hairs on the back of my neck stood up. Years later as a young Air Force wife & mother stationed overseas, I saw him featured on America's Most Wanted on the Armed Forces Network (AFN, a military tv channel). Initially he was only wanted for counterfeiting & was nicknamed 'The Mall Passer' because he would go to shopping centers passing his counterfeit bills mostly 20s on socks, candy & other small items to get change in real bills. In a storage unit in Virginia, they found a counterfeiting machine/paraphernalia & recordings of women being tortured & murdered. They also found women's clothing, jewelry & various forms of id. Some of these women were found alive & they shared their horror stories with law enforcement as did I after he was captured. He was passing off counterfeit bills to fund his sexual deviance. I'm relieved that he's dead & that I was unscathed.
After his arrest for counterfeiting, the Secret Service found evidence linking him to much more serious sex crimes. He was sentenced to 375 years in federal prison. Although he was never brought to trial for murder, he was the principal suspect in two homicides and he remains a suspect in several others. He died of pneumonia at the Federal Medical Center in Butner, North Carolina, in early 2011.

The most frightening & disturbing thing about these cases is that there is no connection between the victim & the killer. She isn't wierd, she is human, and is aware more than most what he did, he robbed her of a relationship with her mother. I think she is strong AF and noble. She is doing what most wouldn't be able to do. I'm aware as a psychopath, he is trying his best to manipulate her for his own benefit, but I also assume she is in full knowledge of that, along with who and what he is and is capable of, and is using her womanly wiles and playing the long game, hoping she can bring closure for not only herself but potentially others as well. I hope he gives her what she came for, but many of them go to their death not giving up the information families seek. She may be the exception. Hoping for her. 🤞🤞

Your vids are the best! Thanks for all the details and photos… so many others put up 20 mins of stock photos which is super annoying- I feel like by learning abt the crimes were honoring the victims; also, seeing them in happier times shows they’re a real person- not just a story, it acknowledges that their family photos now have a person missing, and hearing how they were taken as well as learning the deplorable things they went through helps us understand the criminal mind better and hopefully reduce the chances of something happening to us, or anyone… the more you know, the more you can do… and it ensures that they didn’t die in vain. It’s also helps ensure fewer criminals are able to be successful in manipulating, abusing, and killing ppl/women and hurt or traumatize their family/loved ones in the meantime.
Hearing their stories AS WELL AS how the criminals were caught and what the investigation did right or wrong in the past, all serves to honor their memory and further their legacy.
These are my favorite vids bc they feel like an uplifting ending to yrs of heartbreak and pain. So happy we’re resolving all these cold cases, and it feels right to celebrate that happening by watching these vids and hearing their names as well as the fact they’ve received one aspect of justice, it only marks the beginning of the justice/healing process, but it’s the most important part of the equation bc accountability and truth or integral to the process.
Bless these beautiful angel’s souls, and may PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON THEM, o Lord…❤️
Thanks for all your time, effort & hard work providing content that’s really important & helpful for numerous reasons. But ur giving these women back their names and truth and I appythat most of all❤️

I can only imagine the guilt the boyfriend carries for not waiting until she got onto the bus. I could be wrong, but I thought I remembered hearing that he saw the bus coming down the street. Of course there was no way of knowing that he would live to regret such an innocent decision. Blowing curfew is nothing compared to your girlfriend's murder. I feel for him not only because he was grieving her loss, but also because many thought he was guilty.

Hi Southern Girl... I'm really enjoying your videos, as are my friends that I pointed this way. Would you mind either titling or numbering some of your series that might have the same title? I'm definitely NOT too lazy to send links and share, but myself and a lot of people in my business network spend a LOT of time on the road and in the sky, but I personally do not text and drive. So, when I say, "Check out Southern Girl's 5 Solved True Crime stories" and you might have one (or many), it is hard to describe just talking on the phone, or when we are flying together and listening to things we are fans of. No biggie! Thanks for your work and research! Love the accent as well.. ;). I'm from Texas.. (Yeah, I know! Not the same! :p ) BTW, I would be a patreon already "but" I need to finish some medical priorities and get see my daughter through college graduation this year. After that... I'm happy to help. I was a big board owner and admin for over 2 decades. I put in the time before there was yt or patreon... I almost tanked with all that went into it, and then people started donating... Nobody really knows all the work that goes on behind the scenes.. So, much appreciated!

@@SouthernGirlCrimeStories I'm sorry, I didn't get back soon enough to recall.. . I've been busy.. Probably not as busy as you though! I'm following by way of your Ep's now.. I'd have to search for what I was watching.. My apologies.. I was just getting tripped up trying to watch things in order (time, date, linear, whatever anyone wants to call it). Maybe it was just on my end = me.

Not sure if I would be willing to befriend a killer, who killed my own mother and countless others. That was cringeworthy to see those images of one of the victims daughter posing with the Times Square killer.

I’ve never commented before but thank you for doing what you do! Even when the case you cover has shown up in another channel you always have interesting commentary or an angle that someone else thought unimportant.
For some reason, one of today’s cases sparked a thought. With so many being resolved thanks to advances in DNA & genetic genealogy, cases are being “solved”. But closed without full resolution because the suspect was executed for a different crime.
I’m anti death penalty and have been for years. So it’s interesting (and…nice?) to find another lens to look at it from. So thank you for that too!

I know this might not be other people's opinion: but I feel like when we have caught a killer, the most important thing from there is to find out all the potential victim's & obtaining possible closure for any grieving families. To learn, where undiscovered victims are located, who were their victim's, and any possible details that can be further gather about any individual situations. If it takes having to work alongside the criminal, being willing to help them with things they ask for, just in general focusing mainly on how important it is for the families to find their loved ones over anything else because you already have the criminal behind bars and it's just a waste to let them live our life in prison yet, never utilize the fact you got them to obtain all information possible. It will take specific special professionals who are good at handling this type of being nicely manipulative so they get the information they want, rather than just having a criminal shut down and never reveal crucial information to the professionals. "

It is so sad and awful how many girls and women have died at the hands of monsters that didn't deserve to live. It's just so sad for me to imagine, this women could have lived a beautiful, succesful and long life if it weren't for a monster with no love, empathy or any sort o humanity. inside.

I’m grateful that DNA is helping to identify the victims in these cold cases.
I’m still hoping his second victim in Times Square is identified. It’s horrifying that this young girl teen has gone unidentified for decades because she was a sex worker. Someone must have loved her.
Does she have a known grave site? No one deserves anonymity
